No, it is not a Featherweight.

IMHO this featherweight doesn't deserve that honor. :thumbdown: The Singer machines made today
just aren't up to snuff, they're loud and not well made.
You need to find an original Featherweight, they are all metal and will stand the test of time. :thumbup:

off subject, but---you have a Penguin walking foot ??that
came with the machine ? do you know how rare & expensive that foot is ? Good for you !!!! I just hope to
see one in the real sometime.

Here's a picture of my 15-90, this one had the belt driven motor that hangs off the back of the machine. Its had a motorectomy and is a treadle machine now.

Sadly, these new "featherweights" just play on the former
greatness of Singer machines. the 301's also come in black. & sell for about half of a 221 on eBay. I love my 301ls.
the white, true Singer Featherweight does have some design differences from the black ones. It was made 1960+
not made with the same care & weight metal as the black ones. It is hard-wired, so has to be unplugged each time.
it is noisier, has a shorter extension bed. no decals, etc. the bring good money because people thin they are in shorter supply. but, for my money, I would wait for a black one, preferable one before 1951.
and be very, very careful when buying on ebay. ask lots
of questions, especially about shipping. there is a tutorial
on packing a sewing machine on the internet. I hope you find one, they are such nice little machines. I sell them all
reconditioned, ready to sew. but the cosmetically challenged go for $275. our good one are $400. but the guts inside even a "not-so-pretty" one are the same. so keep an
eye out for one that is not so pretty but runs like a deer.

Great advice from Redturtle. I never bid until the last 2 minutes. I got my white one for right around $300, but they damaged the case in shipping and there is nothing that can salvage it.

This one went for 265.00 plus shipping!!

Buying a machine from Ebay is hit or miss. Some sellers pack well, others don't give a darn. It takes about 2 hours to properly pack a FW for shipping, well worth it. I've sold 5 and never had one damaged in transit.

No, my penguin walking foot didn't come with mine, but funny story. I bought it on a trip about 2 or 3 years ago and it got lost in the storage area of our VW camper van. DH brought it in last year and I went "oh"...I had forgotten I had found it. I have now seen them priced at $650 (prior high was $500)...I told him about it so he would know and he said sell it, I said what are you crazy, I'll never be able to replace it :-) . I don't know what I paid for it but I bet it was around $20 or so, altho I did know how expensive they were when I bought.

I took pictures and will upload them as soon as the board seems to have settled down.

this one is a deal. love it. the white ones were made in England and if you look at the pics close you can see made in Brition on the back corner.
