Look at the model number and then go to this site http://www.singer-featherweight.com/...es/dating.html to determine when your FW was made..

I have 2 FW that are beige/tan that has 221K on it and I pulled
up this site and there is not a model number to match the one
on these. The model number is EV981958. Do you know when
this model was made or where I can find out.

Yep....it's an FW! the case probably had been stripped of it covering and that is why it's an bare wood case, but I like it!
If you seen an 222 for the price u mentioned....better grab it and RUN !! I want one soooo bad !!

Lindsey 08-01-2011 02:23 PM

It reads 221 model..

I know the 222 has been going for around 250+ and even in the 300's depending on condition (I believe) The guy didnt list a serial number so I haven't a clue what it is. I will find out soon enough!

The case is wood. In the pic, I cant tell either way.

This is a #221 not a #222...it looks like a flatbed, not a free arm...
Hope you enjoy your new treasure.

So I told her it was a fair price, paid cash and ran!!

NO KIDDING :D. I got my featherweight for Christmas when I was 11. I still have it and use it... Great learner machine and wonderful bit of history

Your 221K was made in Scotland in 1964.

BETTY62 08-01-2011 09:53 PM

Love the case.

I just read on another site that someone used Dr. School's odor eaters to get rid of the smell in the FW case.

The case is all wood under the usual black covering, somebody just stripped it all off. Nice machine.

If you got the 221 Featherweight that was on ebay, it said it doesn't run. You probably need a new foot pedal. They seem to go bad on featherweights. Sometimes, you can take the foot pedal/controls apart and fix it, but usually they have to be replaced.
Most of these machines are very easy to fix. Sometimes the motor has to be rewired, but not a big job.
Good luck, Enjoy the machine

Karen, Thanks for the tip on the "Odor Eaters" for my musty machine case. Try the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato, oregano(sprinkle) and a smidge of Parmesan. YUMMY peterparley

I am wondering about the carrying case--I had heard they were beautiful wood if stripped but have always been afraid to prove it.

mar32428 08-03-2011 02:54 AM

Didn't know the featherweight 221 had a wooden case. Mine's a black one and I think smaller.

jpmaroni 08-03-2011 02:56 AM

Looks like a featherweight to me. How awesome!!!

I have a case that is pretty bad shape. Maybe I will take on the job of stripping it and I'll let you know what I find. It may take a while.

I'm so happy to hear that it is a great machine.
My oldest dd rented a house about four years ago and the owner's wife had died, and hers was in there.
He let dd have it and when she moved out of state, she gave it to me, bc I oohed and ahhed over it one time when I was helping her with it.
The cord frayed and needs to go to the hospital so it's been sitting in it's cabinet now, for a couple years.
One of these days I've got to take her for a checkup and fix-up!
So glad I looked in on this thread. ;)
