I was just on the link that another user provided this morning for Fatcat Patterns and there is this great design for a featherweight block. Probably many of you have already seen this but I will share it again for those of us who missed it in the past.

http://www.fatcatpatterns.com/PDFs/2...therweight.pdf

Now we can all have a whole bunch of featherweights in every colour under the sun, have fun. :D

I know it would be the only one I'll ever have.
I like my new machine with all the bells and whistles way too much.

wolph33 05-03-2011 11:04 AM

It probably should be but I haven't yet made the leap to do applique

Maybe we should take a course together, to master this! :)
(though I have no real interest in hand applique ... for me it'd have to be machine done!)

NStitchs ... are you listening? do you teach applique?

MamaBear61 05-03-2011 05:54 PM

I think I did one applique block as part of a sampler project our UCW did about 30 years ago and I remember nothing about what I learned "way back then".

When you are only 4, you are not expected to remember HOW!! :)

No clue what you mean by needle turn?

What am I thinking?
A SWOnt GTG ala course with you as the teacher!

MamaBear ... are you in?

And how about other SWOnt'ers ... not that others can't come! :)

New Quilter 05-04-2011 08:59 AM

incoming2me 05-04-2011 01:39 PM

Thank you!

I bought the pattern to make a dust cover & sleeve.
I really wanted to add this on the front but wasn't having luck finding the Featherweight applique pattern.

That is so cute! Would be so cute to make the block and do cross stitch and embroidery to make it look like your machine for a wall hanging. I don't have a FW yet but I'm saving the link. Thanks!

Lori -- thanks so much! I just acquired a vintage machine yesterday -- perfect timing!! I am sort of confused -- is a featherweight a very small machine? Or is it just any vintage machine? Guess it is obvious I am a newbie here....

Dizzydene 05-04-2011 06:12 PM

thanks mamabear!

A featherweight is a small vintage Singer machine. I would call it a 1/2 size machine and then Singer also made a 3/4 size machine too. The featherweights are known as model 221 or 222 (I think the 3/4 size machine is known as a 301). The 222 model is a free arm machine and the end of the bed lifts on both machines for access to the bobbin and to store in their carrying cases. The 221 weighs about 11 lbs not much considering they are a solid metal machine. These machines are very nice machines for straight stitching and the small size makes them good for classes or in my case the machine for the RV. When you get a chance do a search here on the board for featherweight and you will find lots of info and pictures too. :-) I haven't even taken a picture of mine yet

FatCatDesigns is a great site. I used the featherweight applique pattern to make a cover for my FW. It turned out so cute that I may use it to make a cover for my Bernina! LOL

Taffkat 05-05-2011 12:03 PM

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH for sharing the link! I hadn't seen that one. I collect anything singer!

Can I ask where you got the pattern to make the cover from? I'd love to make one for me.

TIA
Kat

taffkat, I made my own pattern
measuring my machine-drawing it out on paper
trying it out.. Quilted the fabric pieces and used my embroidery machine for lettering and the thread, measuring tape, also did some freemotion embroidery. I think it turned out really cute.

This was my first quilt - it's machine appliqued and is called "Quilters World" by Lori Holt of Bees in My Bonnet Designs - with a Featherweight in the center.

Sure hope this works - I haven't posted pictures before.
