uh, right.... like I would ever, ever, ever put it in writing where a husband or accountant could read it. Suffice it to say, it is never enough :) :) :) :)

I feel the same way, though I waited a few days to answer. Especially since I work for an accountant!

Kara 05-14-2009 07:54 AM

I would have to average that out... So far, this year, it would come out to less than $50 a month. I go on splurges/binges. Spent about $150 earlier this month (fabric for 2 quilts, 40% off), but haven't spent anything for months before that. And won't for a few more. At least until I'm ready for batting and backing for the 2 of them.

bearpaw 05-14-2009 10:23 AM

I guess it depends on what I have going on. I would average it to about $75 - $100 per month. I don't think that's so bad. :D

I COULD go in my cave and pull out my black book that I tape all receipts in, so i can write description of fabrics, quantity etc...i have all the incriminating evidence from fabrics, to tools, books, etc.....BUT,
i am afraid, if I added up one month's worth...I might have a coronary, so I don't do that. In my head, based on a week's spending...hmmm, some weeks, nothing...means I haven't left the house, lol...then I am good...just buy small cuts...then woo hoo...like an overeater, i have been a good girl...go for it...with wild abandon, and spend a 100.00!
But it is not on plastic!!! I draw the line there, now. We got ours paid off, and not going there again, if I can help it.
so, bottom line...ummm, dunno....uh,...you sure confession is good for the soul? I don't feel guilty right now, lol

0-$50 here. Really can't justify spending much more, on my budget. Of course, I might take advantage of a good sale every now and then. But I try to rein in the spending.

QuiltyLisa 05-15-2009 08:01 PM

maybe $50 every few months. This month was probably around $100 because I need new quilting needles, some machine quilting thread and some must have fabric.

Mousie 05-15-2009 08:13 PM

OOOOOHHHH....QuiltyLisa....didn't know, we were only talking about, "must-haves"...all my stuff is must haves, lol. So I'm not doing anything to feel guilty about

I got laid off about 4 months ago. I am not sad, I am enjoying for now not working 50 hours at the office and then coming home and working another 40 hours.
I am not trying to be frugal. We are fine financially (knock wood) (my job was play money) But I went through all the bank statements and found I was spending anywhere from 200-300 a month on Quilty stuff and near had kittens. My best friend is a stay at home mom on a very limited budget(she is a quilter too). So when I went and bought anything for me I doubled it and sent it to her.
Now I am trying to use up some of the monstrous stash I have.
My mistake is taking DH with me to the quilt store and he is like "oh this is nice you need this, hey do you have this book, its pretty cool." the man totally wacks out my budget.

I have to admit that Hans is right! I've already spent May's 'allowance' and most of June's!

If I have a new project, like this years mystery quilt, I get it all at once and that is usually at least $200 otherwise it varies, class supplies may be as high as 80 and some months it is just thread or a pattern so under 50. We just went on a trip to Alberta to a store highly recomended by guild members in Canmore. I spent 132 but got a guild discount and for that had 6 fat quarters, a big set of follow the line free motion patteerns for tracing and 2 wall hanging kits that were really cute, plus embroidery floss. My husband even encouraged me to get what I wanted and he would pay for most of it as my mothers day treat!

tuesy 05-18-2009 11:19 AM

Honestly before the first of this year, I would spend maybe $100 a month on either quilting items or machine embroidery items..
but after the first of the year I decided to stop the madness so to speak.

With the economy the way it is, I've cut back alot, haven't spent anything since January. I'm in "snowball" mode. (paying off our CC) so we can be debt free. Also quit playing the lottery (didn't win anything anyways)

I've given up smoking (Thank you Lord) and when all the CC are paid off, then I'm saving for a Quilting machine that I can pay cash for!

If I looked back on the bank statements, I'm afraid I'd get mad at myself and since I can't change the past, only the future, I'm just looking forward. :-)

Good job!!! I'm a former smoker and quit 11 years ago. My daughter and son inspire me to stay cigarette-free as I don't want to get cancer and leave them! My father died from lung cancer when I was 12, so I feel like quitting was the best I could do for them!

Keep up the good work!!

dojo36 06-09-2009 06:44 PM

i had my first year anniversary yesterday of quitting smoking.

Esqmommy 06-09-2009 07:10 PM

I hope you treated yourself to a jelly roll or something!! You deserve it. I KNOW how hard it is. You must feel so much better, though! Does the smell gross you out yet? If not, it will!

kluedesigns 06-09-2009 07:18 PM

i spend about $200 a month on things related to quilting/sewing.

Knot Sew 06-10-2009 03:44 AM

I have $40 to spend a month...thats garage sales fabric and thrift shops.

I have to stay on budget as there is no more... I have to save a bit each month as I may need to get something quick that can't wait.
