No I tidy up every time, this comes from being bought up in home where nothing was tidy so I guess its a rebelious streak lol

If the police showed up right now they would think my house had been ransacked! I just can't keep up with the mess. My house used to be just cluttered but now it is actually getting dirty. I'm trying to adopt everyone's idea of doing just a little bit each day. Right now it is like Watergate in my office. I shredded til midnight last night!

kathdavis 08-21-2011 07:57 AM

If I tidy up, I wouldn't be able to find anything the next day. I clean up when expecting guest. If they show up without a warning, they have to accept and expect that it is all a part of my creativity.

leiladylei54 08-21-2011 08:02 AM

I may not clean up per se, but I do straighten up so that it's somewhat orderly in my sewing room. But at this writing, and until I get my sewing/craft room back, I have no choice but to "clean up" every afternoon because I'm using the dining room table to cut, sew and all that. Have to have room to put out dinner, you know. LOL

luvTooQuilt 08-21-2011 08:14 AM

I clean up when I cant find my sewing machine, when bolts and piles of fabric are on my ironing board and cutting table, when i can no longer see my floor thru all the fallen tread & scrap snippets... or when i can find the ruler i was just using an hour ago..

redvette54 08-21-2011 08:18 AM

I do pick-up some at the end of a sewing day. What I am anal about is making sure everything is turned off. I keep the door closed to keep the dogs out of there, when I'm not in here, but they are welcome to be in there with me when I'm in there. Right now it's semi messy, but it would only take no more than half an hour to have it looking neat.

peaceandjoy 08-21-2011 08:32 AM

Part of the problem I have is that I don't have a dedicated room that I can close the door to. My sewing area is in the family room, so everyone who comes to our house sees it. For the most part, I don't really care a whole lot what they think...

I DO always pick up my rulers and other notions - don't want somebody to step/sit on something and break it (or hurt themselves, I guess). I tend to gather up loose threads and bits of fabric when I'm done for the day. But that's about it!

The hoarder question... As I get older, I'm starting to feel like getting rid of things. For so long , it seems, we've kept things that we "might" use or somebody "might" want. Now it's feeling like clutter to me. How many glass salad bowls does one need? How many storage containers?

DH has not yet reached this stage, in spite of moving his parents into a smaller home and then cleaning that out after they passed. Mom had about 30 boxes of Jello; 8 bottles of red foood coloring, etc. He's still a saver. On the rare occasions that he is out of town when the dump is open, I gather up things. Last time 2 bags to the dump, 4 to Salvation Army.

Neat and creative sometimes just don't work together. I'd rather be creative.

sarahrachel 08-21-2011 06:28 PM

well as the sewing area is also part of my bedroom which is never clean and only gets cleaned when absolutely necessary, I will admit to fabric lying all over my room, started quilts hanging over whatever was convient and boxes of scraps where I won't trip over them.

Though when I stop quilting for whatever reason (in this case being a part time student with a part time job) I throw an old stained and so creased even the iron won't take the crinkles out over the machine and leave everything else where it is. maybe I'll clean it this week...

tmg 08-21-2011 06:44 PM

I don't clean up much. All my sewing is done on the dining table where we eat. I just move it all down to the very end to set the table to eat. My machine goes onto the floor to make room for everyone.

The only time I do clean up is when my hubby starts threatening to throw my stuff away (the war is on). Then I just move it all to our bedroom. It drives him crazy because he is a neat freak and I an not.

jitkaau 08-22-2011 02:56 AM

I believe there is a difference between 'work mess' and slob mess. I will not have anyone tell me that a few bits of material and thread on the floor is 'dirty'. It is work in progress that will not attract germs or vermin. Therefore, it gets tidied up when I am finished.I wash my dishes and clothes and body on a daily basis so feel quite justified with my philosophy...

DebsShelties 08-22-2011 02:57 AM

I like to try to keep my sewing room neat and orderly so if people stop by, it's the room they want to sit in to visit.

BarbP 08-22-2011 03:26 AM

I have too many things going at one time to clean up! Right now I'm working on a scrap quilt so there are scraps everywhere and I'm also refolding my fabric on boards. I'm just finishing quilting a wallhanging but that's almost done. When I really clean up then I can't find anything!

Krystyna 08-22-2011 03:29 AM

Wishing I was tidy, but sad to say I'm not.

MelodyWB 08-22-2011 03:30 AM

I clean and re-set for each new project..however during the process..I'm a slob..I sew all over the room !!

Joset 08-22-2011 03:33 AM

I do not clean up after wards. in fact, the other day i went to straighten up in there and sat down and started quilting.

jansquiltn 08-22-2011 03:41 AM

Mine doesn't get cleaned unless someone has to sleep on the bed.

It'sJustMe 08-22-2011 03:52 AM

My studio is in a constant state of flux so it my look like a wreak to everyone else, but I pretty much know where everything is.

toadmomma 08-22-2011 03:53 AM

Your not alone, but consider it great company. DEB

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 08-22-2011 04:01 AM

I like to tidy up when I get done even if I';m going to sew the next day. Just makes it easier to find things.

shirley35 08-22-2011 04:18 AM

I clean up after each project. It gets pretty messy in between.

Patti Mahoney 08-22-2011 04:25 AM

I'm hand quilting/applique and I get comfy in my favorite chair, get out my applique project from my favorite quilting bag and stitch until I'm content, lol..I don't have a sewing room, yet, but then again, I don't have a large stash since I'm doing applique and it's going to take me a long time to make my Baltimore Album Quilt. When I'm finished stitching I neatly fold up my applique, put it away to keep it clean and no one touches it. My son is 27, only child, no grand babies, only a son and my husband but even still I don't want them to bother my 'stuff'. So I put it away. If I get out the sewing machine, I do that at the dining room table so I have to clean up the dining room table for dinner. I'm a near freak, what can I say....

Roxanne 08-22-2011 04:40 AM

Compared to my husbands office, I am a neat freak. But in truth, my room is a tad messy. I tend to spread things out so I can see everything and grab it instead of look for it. The house tends to be the same way lately since I'm no longer able to do much strenuous work.

KathyKat 08-22-2011 04:44 AM

I tidy up after each project is completed but while I'm doing a project my sewing room gets quite messy. I close the door every night so that my quilting assistant, Spencer the Cat, can't keep working and rearrange what I've completed.

2manyprojects 08-22-2011 04:59 AM

I am right there with YOU!

lenette 08-22-2011 04:59 AM

I try not to let it get too bad, but that's my opinion!

charlotte37830 08-22-2011 05:00 AM

When I stop during making something, I just close the door. Once I am finished with the project, I staighten up so I can start fresh on the next project.

meanmom 08-22-2011 05:03 AM

my sewing room s a mess. I keep telling myself I am going to clean it up when I finish this project. Ha! never happens. I am going to have to clean some before my next project my cutting table is covered with stuff and there is no room for a big cutting project.

Yooper32 08-22-2011 05:10 AM

My sewing room also has to double as a guest room, so, it acquires piles and snips and scraps and pins on the floor and all manner of detritus....until I know that someone is coming to stay for a visit, then... oh my, the mess has to be hidden, put up , organized and swept up. Phew, I am tired just thinking about it.

glorcour 08-22-2011 05:12 AM

I clean up after I am finished using the pieces that are out. I really am bothered by complete chaos.

I try and tidy up the sewing area after a project, so I don't get old fabric pieces mixed in with what I'm doing. As far as the rest of the house, I always say I hate to have to wipe up a spill from the floor because there will be a CLEAN spot! I'm not the best housekeeper!

NJ Quilter 08-22-2011 05:34 AM

I generally try to clean up after each project. I guess because I'm such a messy sewer and have such a small room (8x10) that serves multiple purposes I just have to have a 'jumping off' point for each project. Mind you, during a project - unless people are staying over - I'm fortunate enough to be able to just shut the door and leave everything where it is mid-project.

And trust me I seriously doubt you are a hoarder. I've known a family like that. You don't even want to know what a disaster that was!

sewnsewer2 08-22-2011 05:34 AM

I clean up each day.I can't stand a messing sewing room.

Para722 08-22-2011 05:42 AM

I am running for president of the slob club. It is the start of craft fair season and my house looks pretty messy.
