It is FINALLY FINISHED!!!!

Today at 4:11pm Central Time I sewed the last stitch into the binding of the quilt from hell. I can't wait to see the thing out of my house.
That is all.

Atomicdog 12-04-2011 03:31 PM

LOLOL!!! This is priceless!! I had to read it aloud to the family. I'm very happy for you and would love to see a pic of this "quilt from hell"!! Congratulations I think!

sharon b 12-04-2011 03:32 PM

Can you post a pic for us ? Glad it is finally done and you don't have to deal with it anymore that is always a GREAT feeling :)

alwayslearning 12-04-2011 03:37 PM

Oh, please show us a picture!!!

Lori S 12-04-2011 03:38 PM

Funny you should bring this up ! I too just finished the last stitch on a binding for quilt that was ... well... not exactly my favorite( being very polite) .. by a long stretch! Like you I can not wait to get it out of MY HOUSE. I will be at the post office tommorow first thing and get it on its way!
I feel such relief , I can completey relate to how you are feeling! Now on to sewing something FUN! PS I rewarded myself with chocolate!

Mitch's mom 12-04-2011 04:00 PM

I have to take pictures tomorrow when the light is better. I'll post them tomorrow night - promise.

I just pulled some Christmas prints out of my stash to make some mug rugs for the girls at work. That is my reward, to make something I want to make, that doesn't take the gestation period of an elephant to finish.

Carrie Jo 12-04-2011 04:11 PM

I have had a couple like that ... glad your done with it.

You have made me crack up twice in one post. :D I know just how you feel too! By the way, just how long is an elephant's gestation period? I still can't wipe the smile off my face. LOL! Can wait to see your pic tomorrow night!

Oh Oh I know this one!!! The gestation period of an elephant is 22 months! I am currently a student in a Registered Vet Tech program and we had to know this last month for our final!!! I guess I really am learning something!!

BuzzinBumble 12-04-2011 04:33 PM

Wow! 22 months... those poor mommy elephants! Can you imagine? LOL You get an A+!
(I like your signature quote too)

Okay, here's one they won't teach you at Vet Tech school:
Do you know how to tell when it is that time of the month for an elephant?

There's a quarter on your dresser and your mattress is missing! (hee hee) ;)

mcdaniel023 12-04-2011 04:59 PM

You are so funny. Thanks for the laugh....twice. I am going to look for the picture tomorrow. I am still smiling.

QuiltnNan 12-04-2011 05:52 PM

Jingle 12-04-2011 06:33 PM

I have a few quilts like that and so has my DD.

KerryK 12-04-2011 06:55 PM

Soooo funny! I can actually feel your feelings for this "quilt from hell." Bless your heart, enjoy making the mug rugs!

Nanaquilts44 12-04-2011 07:38 PM

What a relief to finally finish a difficult quilt! You are a good sport.

BETTY62 12-04-2011 07:44 PM

katigirl 12-04-2011 11:59 PM

I think we've all experienced at least one of those if you quilt long enough. lol.

CAJAMK 12-05-2011 03:34 AM

Misery loves company. I am putting the binding on my quilt from hell Wed...then goodbye!

SandScraps 12-05-2011 03:44 AM

I loved the description and cannot imagine how relieved you are. I dug mine up and draped it over a chair from where it stares at me accusingly. Wait, I'll get to it. Soon!

faykilgore 12-05-2011 05:01 AM

Thank you for the laugh and the "shared misery" of quilts we wished we'd never started. I think this needs to be a thread. Maybe under pictures. "Unfavorite quilts that took forever and are now finally done." Maybe something a little shorter. Finally Finished Quilts from Hell. FFQH. We could start a new acronym!

scrappy2 12-05-2011 05:03 AM

Congratulations! Will be watching for picture.

Here is the picture of the QFH. It is 1/2 a football field and 1/2 a basketball court. I used a wood grain pattern fabric for the 'floor of the basketball court. All the lines for both fiield's were free hand embroidered using a Pfaff 138-6 industrial. The numbers were done on my Brother PC6500. The quilting was done on a Pfaff 1222E.
The girl I made it for was the manager for both her high school teams. I made a full football field for a charity auction last March. I have never been so happy to see a project finished. Sorry it is wrinkled. It spent the night in my car.

faykilgore 12-05-2011 05:52 PM

okay, now I'm ROFLMAO! That so looks like something naughtier than a basketball end zone!

Sheila_H 12-05-2011 06:39 PM

Wow lol I thought I was the only one that has a quilt from there! Glad you got it finished I've got one that is buried in the deep bowels of the closet I'm so mad at it I'm not in any hurry to rescue it either

Well... now that you mention it. Hopefully the kids at the school won't see it that way!

Sheila_H 12-05-2011 07:00 PM

I am so glad that my mind wasn't the only one that wandered down that path lmao

I am working on a quilt like that right now. Unfortunately it is for my DH and will live in my house to constantly remind me of my 1. bad choice for a pattern. 2. bad choice of fabric for pattern. 3. times I had to rip out what I had sewn. 4. time I miscut and then go to fabric store because I ran out of the fabric and got caught in the rainstorm of the century. 5. ineptitude as a hand quilter.
What was I thinking?
Anyways, I have slogged through this and I am a better person. Not a smarter person, but better. LOL
PS: My dh is so so about the pattern @#$%+&!

Grandma Peg 12-05-2011 07:15 PM

Know what you mean and glad you got it done. I had one that almost made me quit quilting. It went wrong from the first block to the last and even the sashing had to have plan B but the binding went on ok. Mine is still in the closet not sure what I will do with it. It is nice that yours will have a home.

SouthPStitches 12-05-2011 07:19 PM

Heh Mitch's Mom: You absolutely cracked me up not once but twice with your posts too. So funny and I sure know where you are coming from. May I add these are the only true laughs I've had all day. Bless you for that!!!

BuzzinBumble 12-05-2011 07:21 PM

FFQFH.... Now that is a great idea for a section of the board- It would make a great cautionary gallery! Oh goodness Fay! :o I can't stop laughing about what you wrote.... and here I thought it looked like the basketball court was holding up it's middle finger! Like it KNOWS it is a QFH. Funny how something you normally view flat on the floor (a basketball court) looks so different viewed vertically.

To be perfectly serious though MM - you did a superb job! It looks full of school spirit (Heck it will even "whip the bird" at the opposing teams) The fact that you stuck to and finished to something like this?

so-sew 12-06-2011 04:21 AM

What a relief! Be gone with you now!!! I know the feeling well.

luv2so 12-06-2011 04:36 AM

I think gestation for an elephant is 2 years.

Yes, we have all had those, I feel your pain. Usually they are the quilts that look so innocent, too...glad you are finished.

coldquilter 12-06-2011 06:01 AM

Priceless! I have had similar thoughts about quilts, good for you.

jamsbuying 12-06-2011 06:34 AM

Glad you finally finished the quilt and thanks for posting the picture. Enjoy your holidays!

urgodschild2 12-06-2011 10:38 AM

LOL I loved all the comments about this QFH. A long time ago I made one for my brother and his wife. I asked for the colors she likes and they were not colors I enjoy in any way. But it took 1 1/2 years for me to finish. I hated it. Everytime I worked on hand quilting it......I got a headache. I wanted to throw it out so many times. But I finished. Now my brother and wife are no longer living and I have no idea where that QFH ended up. And I don't really care as long as it didn't end up back with me. LOL.

Linda1 12-06-2011 05:40 PM

I definitely want to see a picture. LOL
