Finally tried Gutermann thread
 

I had bought a spool from MSCO last month but just was scared to try it on something that wasn't for me. But I broke down and tried it on a bib and burp cloth I made for my store. No issues at all. Low to no lint and I love the feel of it. I was also worried my machine, Janome DC2011, wouldn't like it. Now I know it does so I hope to start my stash of Guterman thread soon. I have been eyeing the collection boxes I have seen around but man they are high....but it has a nice case. lol

Thanks for all that suggests this thread. If I get bold, I might try Aurifil but the price of that scares me away.

Never be "scared" to try something. It is just a spool of thread. If your machine doesn't like it, it doesn't mean that it will be seriously broken. It just won't work well in the machine.

And just because some love Aurifil and don't mind the price, doesn't mean you have to try it or use it. Heck, even Coats and Clark thread sews fine! I have been using the cheapest thread I can get away with all my life, first in garment sewing and now in quilting. Nothing ever fell apart because of the thread. I'd rather buy fabric.

(Nothing against expensive thread folks - don't crucify me. Just trying to encourage her to do what works for her and her situation.)

I never have thought to fret over using any type of sewing thread in my machine. It works or it doesn't is my thinking.
I have lots of Guttermann thread. When Hancock Fabric store closed the last day all the thread was 10 spools for $1!!! No matter the brand or the size. The other customers were all at the C&C and serger racks (clothes sewers). I hit the Guttermann and Sulky racks. I bought every spool left. The manager said he wasn't counting all those spools and I got it for pennies a spool. I thought what in the world was I thinking buying all that thread? But it has saved me hundreds of dollars. I use the Sulky and Guttermann for secret pal and gifts to sewing friends during the year. They think I spent too much! LOL I love the Guttermann colors and so far it has sewn great in all my machines.

My Janome likes every kind of thread I use with it. She is very accommodating.

My Bernina was breaking thread constantly. I couldn't sew for 2 minutes without the thread breaking. I was at my wit's end. I bought a large cone of Gutermann's thread and am so thankful I did. I have not had any breakage since then. Also, I don't have a stand for the large cone, so I just set it in front of my sewing machine and thread it up through the hooks and it works perfect. After 2 years of struggling, I finally found the answer. Gutermann's thread and a large cone of it. I don't think a small spool of it would work like the cone does.

I use it all!

My Janome serviceman suggested I use Mettler thread, and I tried it, but noticed no difference from the Guterman thread I usually use. I always check that I buy 100% cotton thread, though, for piecing.

I have used Guterman and Mettler silk finish and I just started using Aurifil. My machine seems to love the Aurifil. It even sounds different when I use it. I wouldn't get rid of the thread that I have to use Aurifil but as I run out I will replace with it. I will say that I can get a scant 1/4" with the Aurifil without much effort. However, when I'm quilting (not piecing) I go with the brand that has the color that I am looking for.

Each person has to go with what their budget and desires dictate. It is nice to try all different brands of supplies until you find what works for you. That is part of the fun.

Gutermann is nice and I have a few spools but I'm an Arufil convert thanks to this forum. Tried one spool and fell in love! My favorite thing about it is that SO MUCH fits on a bobbin. Nothing worse than running out of a bobbin mid-seam! I also have a large cache of C&C thread that I'm trying to use up. My Janome doesn't seem very picky at all but I definitely notice more "fuzz" with C&C.

My machine came with a bunch of Robison-Anton thread (and that's what my dealer recommended, she was horrified to hear I use C&C) but to me it doesn't seem all that much superior. Decent stuff, don't get me wrong, I'll use up what I have, but it seems nearly as fuzzy as C&C to me. *shrug* I guess I'm just addicted to Aurifil now and nothing else will excite me!

I tried them all from really inexpensive no-name brands to higher end threads and my Singer eats them all up without any issues. I have to admit, that really cheapo ones tend to have more lint. Mettler is my prefered thread, and Gutterman is my alternative. Happy Quilting!
