I totally agree. What an amazing quilt. Good luck with the quilting !!

Beautiful quilt for first project.

pw6 05-06-2014 07:30 AM

beautiful, love it, if you are going to hand quilt it, outline the center and then do a allover design for the rest. If someone else is going to quilt it use someone who can do a computer special design for you.

Taughtby Grandma 05-06-2014 07:49 AM

Beautiful quilt, I might quilt around the applique and then a general meander over the rest.

SueSew 05-06-2014 07:56 AM

That is a beautiful quilt!

I saw it on some fabric/quilting website and I wanted to try it, but I was told it had to be done in the Marcus materials in the kit because it had special prints or something - I couldn't use my own fabrics.

Did you have to fussy-cut the fabric? Are there special prints? Do you think it would work if I chose my own colors and prints?

You did beautiful work!

quilterpurpledog 05-06-2014 08:57 AM

Your quilt is stunning and to think it is your first major quilt!. I will offer an opinion. Keep it very simple especially in the main body of the quilt. Stitch in the ditch would be nice if you feel confident; but, you could also do a quarter of an inch from the seam lines. Then you could take advantage of regular stitching on your machine or use a walking foot if you have one. If you practice on some scrap for a bit before hand I think you could do feathers on the border. This would allow you to do feathers and also not have to be concerned with a bunch of tight quilt stuffed in the harp space. We will look forward to see what you finally decide to do.

matraina 05-06-2014 10:42 AM

It's a real beauty!

MargeD 05-06-2014 11:14 AM

Your quilt is so awesome, you did a fantastic job on it. I'm afraid I don't have any quilting ideas, other than possibly quilting around your applique pieces and maybe some cross-hatching on the middle block.

pahega 05-06-2014 12:14 PM

No I didn't fussy cut any pieces. This is a block of the month quilt so the cutting instructions and all of the fabric was included. It was a 6 month program.

youngduncan 05-06-2014 02:22 PM

This is your fist quilt!!?? My, how I envy your talent. I have no ideas on how to quilt it, but I can definitely say that whatever you do will make it even more magnificent!!

trolleystation 05-06-2014 03:31 PM

Well done...your quilt is awesome.

cassiemae 05-06-2014 04:23 PM

I love your colors and you did a very good job.

cathyvv 05-06-2014 04:38 PM

It's gorgeous! No suggestions on quilting, though. You made a wonderful quilt top. Can't wait to see it finished!

My time 05-06-2014 06:42 PM

Well this is a beautiful quilt and the colours are beautiful. If there was ever a quilt that deserved to be hand quilted this is it. Echo quilting and keeping it simply quilted would be the cat's meow. Congratulations on a job well done and happy quilting.

That's a breathtaking view! Whatever you decide for the quilting, be sure to show us the final photos!

ntransue 05-06-2014 08:17 PM

For a first major project you did a great job.

sewbizgirl 05-06-2014 09:10 PM

It's so beautiful... I would take it section by section, even block by block, and do some custom quilting. Let each block speak to you and take your time.

What a treasure it will be!

oldpiglady 05-06-2014 09:52 PM

OMG! You must be so very proud. Beautiful.

twinkie 05-07-2014 03:09 AM

Very very pretty.

Digitabulist 05-07-2014 04:11 AM

It's fabulous!

Shorebird 05-07-2014 04:14 AM

Cannot believe this is your first major quilt...It is stunning.......If I were not an accomplished quilter, (which I am not) I might be tempted to send this out to a wonderful LAQ - several on this board....and let them do justice to this marvelous work of art!

DebbieS 05-07-2014 04:45 AM

Your quilt is beautiful. I'll be posting my first quilt, soon too. Good job.

WMUTeach 05-07-2014 05:04 AM

When you jump into a "major" quilt project you are serious. This is a beautiful quilt and yes, the colors a magnificent.

leighway 05-07-2014 06:08 AM

It is such a beautiful quilt, I think I'd try to have it professionally longarmed, especially if you are new to the world of quilting obsession...You can see from so many here who have been quilters for awhile that it's difficult to figure the best quilting pattern for something this intricate and lovely. I don't think I'd have it too densely quilted because that will add to the weight of the quilt and make it stiff.
You are to be commended for your lovely work!

rural01 05-07-2014 06:37 AM

Wow, that is beautiful...and for a first major project. You are a rock star. I'd outline quilt all the beautiful pieces and go from there, with fill designs and motifs in the larger areas. What a fun quilting project this will be. Enjoy! We certainly want to see the completed quilt.

fangman 05-07-2014 07:27 AM

It's a beautiful quilt.

I think I have that kit. It is sp pretty I am going to see if I have it.

AUQuilter 05-07-2014 08:08 AM

I think it is just beautiful! Great job on your first big deal quilt. I remembered this quilt from another posting regarding the quilting of this BOM top: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...a-t148092.html

BuzzinBumble 05-07-2014 11:37 AM

You are one talented quilter! And then to think that this is your first - amazing!
i think that the hand appliqued part would look nice if you quilted all around the appliques, but left them plain, that way they would really pop.

bearisgray 05-07-2014 11:38 AM

Spectacular! Definitely a MAJOR quilt!

Vera39760 05-07-2014 11:59 AM

Your quilt is beautiful. A lot of skills showing with the piecing and appliqué .

fireworkslover 05-07-2014 01:30 PM

You should stitch around all of the appliques with a straight stitch. This will be right next to the appliques, on the background fabric. That will help the appliques to pop forward. Since this quilt looks like you'll be using it, I'd do some different designs in the remaining blocks, but nothing too dense or the quilt might become stiff. Perhaps keep your scale around 1.5"- 2", so keep your quilting lines that far apart. This is pretty remarkable for your first quilt. Check out Leah Day's website - Free Motion Project.com. She has hundreds of designs all with short videos of her demonstrating them.

momsbusy 05-07-2014 04:49 PM

If you are going to quilt it yourself, I would start with stitch in the ditch. I would then free motion quilt around the appliqués. At that point, I would think about how much more I wanted to do. If you send your quilt out to a long armer, ask them for suggestions that would avoid the appliqué. Check out some of the free motion classes on Craftsy. They are terrific. Also, Leah Day has great videos on YouTube. Good luck!

sonisew 05-07-2014 04:52 PM

Very Nice! I love your color choices

red-warrior 05-08-2014 02:49 AM

What a beautiful quilt!!! I love the colors too!

silverfoxmag 05-08-2014 12:12 PM

Congratulations on a job well done! Wow, a first quilt, can't wait to see what comes next. Don't have any suggestions either on how to quilt it but like PeniF said keep it simple and let the amazing work you've done shine through. If you have a quilt shop near you that you frequent maybe they might suggest something.

Floralfab 05-08-2014 12:57 PM

Well done!!

coopah 05-08-2014 02:51 PM

Exquisite! This is your first quilt? Wowser!
