YES! I don't like disasters, so I prewash, especially flannel.

YES .. YES prewash and preshrink flannel! I made a shirt once out of flannel ... and needless to say I never wore it again once it was washed. It was a lesson learned the hard way ... now I preshrink twice with flannel.

Do you all prewash your flannel even when making a rag quilt?

I always wash no matter what. I don't wash everything but this I do. It shrinks and even though it may be the same brand two different pieces may not shrink the same amount so I wouldn't know the end results when making a quilt of even the same brand, it could be great or it could be all wonky

yes, because of what I put in my other post, not all shrinkage is the same amount

I don't pre-wash anything unless it's from the 2nd hand shop. I've used flannel numerous times, never pre-washed, and it doesn't seem to shrink anymore than the batting in the finished quilt. Usually I only use it on the back.

I don't wash it if I am making a rag quilt. Otherwise it won't rag very well.

I do not usually prewash cotton fabrics. Flannel is the exception. It tends to shrink a lot and if you don't want a wonky wrinkled quilt, it is important to wash it.

Absolutely pre-wash. I have a piece of solid red flannel that still bled after MULTIPLE washings, even with color catchers.
