Flour Sacks

The spousal unit and I went to visit his mom in Idaho, and before we headed back this morning, we stopped at the WinCo grocery store...things are LOTS cheaper there than they are here!
Guess what I found in the baking section? 25 lb bags...$12.78

So, that was 3 bags.... now what are you planning to do with the 75 lbs. of flour and perhaps 6 fat quarters? Remember, if you are baking, it will cut down your quilting time.

Charlee, that is sooo cool! Wish they sold that around here!

~grin~ I didn't come home with any...I don't bake enough! I was pretty sure they were still out there tho, just didn't know where....now we do! ;)

Those are great, but yeah, not sure what I would do with all that flour!

Heck, just throw the flour out and use the flour sacks in a quilt!!!

Ah, Charlee, you're too young to have had to wear flour sack dresses. During WWII, uniforms took up so much production, fabric always wasn't available. Grandma was able to get good material for my dance costumes, but many of my everyday dresses were flour sacks. Pretty, usually, but not soft and smooth like the percale and silky material for my 'fancy' dresses. Did you catch the switch in terminology? Grandma never called it fabric - either yard goods or material.

A fun find!

Actually Rose...I DID wear flour sack blouses... :)

These sacks that I found felt really nice, but I suppose that could have had something to do with the flour in them...

Mom said "cloth" or "material".... :)

Well look at that! I would have bought it just because I could and found a use for the flour. I love making bread by hand and I could force myself to eat the fresh baked bread with butter. That is sooo cool!
