I'm in the market for one of these....but there are so many options for my machine!! There are metal ones, plastic ones, open toe or closed toe...there's small ones and the "big foot"...I haven't ventured into fmq yet...so I'm really at a loss.

What do you prefer and why?

I have both open toed & closed toed feet for my machine & I prefer the open toe one for sure!

Open toe works better for me. When I start to stitch, I like to hold the threads out of the way. With a closed toe you can't really do that. I also like clear if possible just so I can see where I'm going. Of course, I'm still lousy at FMQ so I need any advantage I can get!

I have the big foot and really like it, but it is plastic and a closed foot. I do use my open foot metal one sometimes when I really need to be precise in what I'm doing. The reason I like my big foot is that it has a slight rounded base and moves over nearby pins and doesn't get caught on them - this gives me a little more flexibility in the area I can stitch in before moving my hands. The larger base of the big foot also helps keep bumps of fabric away from the needle when I'm not as careful as I should be and am trying to push the envelope.

I prefer a clear open toed foot that also has a spring in it :D:D:D

I like the clear open toed foot. Just works best for me.

I have the closed toe and if I were getting another one I would get the open toe. Just seems like it would be easier for me see what I am doing.

My spring action foot for my sapphire broke where the wire stem was - that made the foot pratically set on the fabric ugh there went 50 smackers! My quilting friend uses her plastic darning foot so I tried it and it works for me. If you are starting out the free motion spring foot open might work best for you till you get more experience. Starting out, going where you haven't been, you need to make it as easy as possible.

I prefer the larger clear foot that came with my stitch regulator on my Bernina for FMQ because you can see ahead and behind where you are going.

I also prefer the clear open toe. It just makes is so much easier for you to see what you're doing and where to go next.
