Great looking feathers, so sorry for all your "unsewing". I'm also a 'been there, done that", but I managed to do it on my quilting frame, still not sure how I did it:o

judi wess 08-18-2013 03:18 AM

Oh my, don't you hate it when that happens? You are in good company. Can't believe how many stupid mistakes I make. Have been quilting since '89, and still make lots of mistakes.

Been there, done that but TWICE. Yip, had sooooo (not) much fun ripping out an area, sewed it again, and did it wrong a second time. DUH!!!!!!!!!!

mcdaniel023 08-18-2013 03:57 AM

Beautiful quilting. I, too have been there and done that and it is no fun at all!

KnitnutBZ 08-18-2013 04:36 AM

I did this just the other day. GRRRRRRR

sewnsewer2 08-18-2013 04:51 AM

OMG, so sorry you had to rip it out. I can't tell you how many times I have done that too!

sewmom 08-18-2013 05:28 AM

I have done that a few times and knowing me, I will probably do it again. I bought a magnifier with a light that clamps to the table that has been a wonderful investment! It helps so much when picking out stitches! It gets a lot of uses in my sewing area. I got it half price at Michaels- about $20. Worth every penny.
Beautiful quilting by the way.

judyrael 08-18-2013 05:46 AM

I just did this yesterday on a small quilt for the couch. It was the first time for me. Took me a half hour to rip out the stitch's along the edge. After all the ripping its something that I sure will watch for from now on. Looks like you got lots of company that did the same thing. One of those learning experiences that's for sure.

judyrael 08-18-2013 05:49 AM

I have one of those magnifier lights too and just love it. It is one of the best investments that I have bought.

helou 08-18-2013 05:51 AM

It never happened to me as I am overly cautious and just beginning to learn how to quilt with my domestic sewing machine.
but guess what?

I read your post this morning and went to quilt and......... I just did it lollll So I guess I am now a member of the club!!!1:thumbup:

Mariposa 08-18-2013 05:58 AM

S sorry this happened to you. Been there, done that. :)

JENNR8R 08-18-2013 06:20 AM

I remember seeing a video by Leah Day on her method of "unsewing." Of course I can't find it now to show you, but she just cut one stitch and started pulling them up one by one. It didn't matter how closely together they were sewed. Pulling up one at a time was fast and caused little distortion to the fabric.

mighty 08-18-2013 06:24 AM

Oh no, so sorry!!!

cricket_iscute 08-18-2013 07:07 AM

I've done this. Frustrating, isn't it? What I found worked best was to take the stitches out from inside the quilt. In other words, the wrong side of top and back. You can gently pull the fabric away and cut the stitch. Just cut every fourth stitch or so and use masking tape to pick the thread up. Your quilting is nice. Good luck.

RainyBC 08-18-2013 08:04 AM

Your FMQ is beautiful - for me it would be a dream come true. I hope everything turns out well for you and I'd love to see the finished product. Good luck!!

MargeD 08-18-2013 09:12 AM

Been there, done that. Just try a little section at a time and it will get done. The FMQ is beautiful though, just so you know.

matraina 08-18-2013 10:01 AM

You poor thing - BUT your quilting is beautiful!

Pennyhal 08-18-2013 10:22 AM

What a lovely quilt! Yep, been there, done that. I nourish the mind set that ripping out is just part of the process, and once I rip it out, I get to sew again! And, it'll be lovelier the second time I stitch it too! I can go for that.

teric 08-18-2013 10:33 AM

Must have been something in the air..I also did this yesterday....i was close enough to the edge that all that got folded under was to be cut off...I was able to cut right up to the threads (still left me with 3/8") and remove the excess material..take deep breaths and breaks as you go...it will be over soon...:-o

Carol34446 08-18-2013 10:40 AM

Beautiful quilting so so sorry, it is a pain to rip it all out, but when it is done you will be happy it looks so great.

kheliwud 08-18-2013 11:11 AM

Been there, done that! If I put a few basting pins on the edges, I am better about avoiding the folds. Your stitching is beautiful!

lol, Mad..."chapped my bacon"!...:D I agree with others, your fmq is great! Thanks for the "don't do this"...bumblers like me need all the heads up we can get!

CorgiNole 08-18-2013 02:34 PM

Been there too. Twice on the same quilt. My danger area is the corners.

Cheers, K

Scuddles 08-18-2013 03:21 PM

That is so heartbreaking. I am so sorry, don't be so hard on yourself, your only human.

fixfido 08-18-2013 03:27 PM

I've done that more times than I care to admit.

lfstamper 08-18-2013 03:29 PM

OOPS! Looks great otherwise!

klgls 08-18-2013 04:30 PM

I hate it when I do that - and I have, more than once!! :(

karate lady 08-18-2013 05:28 PM

I actually did this while hand quilting, but caught it before it went too far. Leave it to me to do THAT...

Pepita 08-18-2013 09:22 PM

I feel your pain!

bobbiesboutique 08-19-2013 02:58 AM

Ive done it

Momo 08-19-2013 05:39 AM

Wish I could FMQ as lovely as you have done here. Sorry for the problem, that is something I could do for sure. Hope all the tiny stitches come out easy enough for you. Blessings.

Skittl1321 08-19-2013 06:14 AM

Really hate when I do that!

karenpatrick 08-19-2013 06:30 AM

Been there, done that. Hate it!

dianeinsterling 08-19-2013 06:36 AM

been there, done that...good luck

BettyGee 08-19-2013 07:36 AM

So sorry this happened because your quilting is absolutely gorgeous. I just did the same thing on a lap throw and picking out those little threads just about drove me crazier than I already am. You are a wonderful FMQ so keep on sewing!

IBQUILTIN 08-19-2013 07:52 AM

Boy oh boy!!!Not a fun mess but we have all been there. When I get close to the edges, I pull my piece off the machine and spray baste it just one more time. So far (knock on wood) it has kept me from doing that again. Hope this little tip helps you. Just go slow and you will get it all picked out.

quiltyjax 08-19-2013 07:56 AM

Am so sorry for you - been there and done that. It takes ages to unpick and to avoid it the second time I hand basted the area with washable thread. I wish you well and look forward to the seeing the quilt finished.

Grace MooreLinker 08-19-2013 08:04 AM

Sorry for your trouble but I would guess most of us quilters have had this same thing happen. It is hard picking those stitches out and such a pretty quilting you have done. Good luck don't stress to much.

penski 08-19-2013 08:11 AM

sorry this happened top you , i know what it feels like to being so close to get a quilt finished , and i get in a hurry sometimes !!, but on a sweter note your FMQ is beautiful !
