Happy Sewing with Sylvia!!

Wanabee Quiltin 02-05-2013 05:17 AM

I bought one of these from Craigslist 1 1/2 years ago and have never sewed on it. I bought it to do FMQ and have never done it (yet). I have this on my list of things to do this spring To be honest, I just love piecing. Oh Well.....
Congratulations for your wonderful purchase and I hope you do all the things I plan on doing myself.

Sylvia's sister lives at my house, and I sew with her everyday. I love her.

sewnsewer2 02-05-2013 06:09 AM

Sylvia's beautiful, CONGRATS!!

BillieJean 02-05-2013 06:45 AM

I have one and love it ..

Daisy Dew 02-05-2013 07:04 AM

Yep these "sisters" are great; one the the girls is at my house we have never had a cross word with each other. Lots of projects have gone through her throat and she never choked!

Congrats JanTx and Miss Sylvia - the last project we just finished was that fun Scrappy Mystery Train Ride from piecing to the quilting.

Sue_R 02-05-2013 07:06 AM

I hope you have a long and happy life together. My daughter has a machine like this & she loves it. Nothing says happiness to me like a good-working machine!!

carslo 02-05-2013 07:08 AM

Lovely sewing machine and you are lucky to have a sweetheart of a DH.

SunlitenSmiles 02-05-2013 07:12 AM

hello, Sylvia, and welcome aboard the Quilting Board

feffertim 02-05-2013 08:16 AM

Welcome to the world of Janome machines. You should join the 6600 users blog, there is so much information, hints and useful tips from members there. here is the link. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Janome6500/ Good luck with your machine. I love mine

acjacques 02-05-2013 08:19 AM

Sylvia is a good choice.

I also bought a Janome 6600 when it first came out, had it for 4 years - it was a wonderful machine. I traded it for a Janome 7700 (Horizon), and I wish I had kept the 6600. Janome does make good sewing machines.

nightquilter 02-05-2013 08:36 AM

you may be foreigners now but I bet you will be speaking the same language very soon. Give that wonderful man a hug!

Chasing Hawk 02-05-2013 08:58 AM

Sylvia is beautiful., welcome to your new home.

May all 3 of you grow old together.

carolynjo 02-05-2013 09:08 AM

She's beautiful! I would be SO intimidated staring at all those stitch options. Enjoy her to the fullest and may she be always at your beck and call.

oldquilter 02-05-2013 10:51 AM

Passing of the Faithful Friend

Old machine, anonymous and broken
May your parts be donated for transplant.
Released from the tension, jams and needle-break
Of this realm,
Find peace, proper lubrication and adjustment
And threads worthy, beautiful and lint-free.

May someone gently whisk the fuzz balls from your innards
And lead you to the land of endless decorative stitching.

I have this machine and love it! I did have trouble with backlash in the bottom thread when I used certain brands of thread like Guterman. A friend recommended I buy a package of teflon washers and they solved the problem. I can use any thread without a problem now. Soooo, I use those washers in every sewing machine I own now! Think the brand is Magic Genie.

gabeway 02-05-2013 12:09 PM

Congratulations! Looks great!

Jamiestitcher62 02-05-2013 12:41 PM

I had a Janome 6600 it was a good machine for me, but didn't have it long, traded her in for the 7700 with the 11" throat and free arm. Janome has some really nice stuff for sure. Sylvia and you will be very happy I am sure.

Jamiestitcher62 02-05-2013 12:41 PM

Those teflon washers are absolutely the best, I use them all the time.

jeanharville 02-05-2013 02:26 PM

You will fall in love with Sylvia each and every time you use her! I have had mine for many years and she still purrs like when she was brand new. Enjoy Her! GiGi

sulyle 02-05-2013 05:59 PM

Congratulations on the new machine. I have a 6600 and love it. I'm wondering why machines never follow me home.

Lady Diana 02-05-2013 06:25 PM

I have two of these wonderful machines, one for home, one for cabin. You will really enjoy this machine!
It is built for quilting. I got a 8900 for Christmas, but would not give up my 6600.

Raine 02-05-2013 07:39 PM

Can you please tell me what Teflon Washers are? Thanks! Pat

Digitizingqueen 02-05-2013 08:03 PM

Awesome...

nstitches4u 02-05-2013 09:20 PM

Congratulations! You will love your 6600. I have had one for several years and it is my favorite for FMQ. It has the best stitch.

w7sue 02-05-2013 10:44 PM

I love my Janome 6600!!! I won mine on a quilt shop hop a few years ago (as a matter of fact is was in February 2010). The total cost of this machine was the maintenance agreement I purchased at the local shop that does the service and I also got lifetime lessons for it too. I am sad to say that I have used it for very little other than piecing quilts - but it does a great job at that.

lisalovesquilting 02-06-2013 07:00 AM

Congratulations! You will love everything she can do. I've had mine 3 yrs. and still haven't done it all. It makes beautiful decorative stitches and buttonholes. etc.etc.etc.

solstice3 02-06-2013 07:25 AM

congrats on a great new machine

AnnT 02-06-2013 07:52 AM

Glad to meet you, Sylvia! May y'all have a long an happy friendship.

Grama Lehr 02-06-2013 08:01 AM

Congratulations on Sylvia!!

jcrow 02-06-2013 11:33 AM

Congratulations on your sweet husband and your nice machine. Without that husband of yours, you wouldn't have that nice machine. Sounds like a good man to me!

JanTx 02-06-2013 01:15 PM

Raine - he paid $1100. My last machine was a Brother 9000 that he purchased from Amazon.com for $150. That machine was a tried and true friend, but I think it died from exhaustion. We made over 80 quilts together before its untimely death. Repair cost would have been more than cost of machine.

Jodi3284 02-06-2013 01:38 PM

I am drooling over Sylvia, is that odd?? :)
