Footrest for controller

I have an old farmhouse table for a sewing table. My Bernina 770QE sits atop it. For Christmas, my husband bought me a Sew Steady insert so that we could cut the top and recess my machine to make it more comfortable. Needless to say, the insert hasn't made it out of the box and my table top is as solid as ever.
Meanwhile, I've raised my chair to its tallest. My legs dangle a bit, so I've balanced the heel of my foot on one of the chair's wheeled legs and operated my controller from the "thick" back end of the pedal.
After a trip to IKEA this weekend, I found a footrest that is *perfect* for my current sewing set up...and won't break the bank.
It does not slide around, either!

Maybe you'll find it'll help you as well. :)
Now... if I could just get the tabletop cut!

cute! i tend to press hard with my left foot while using the right one for the speed control. Then my left foot starts cramping! only then do i relax it! especially when free motion quilting! even in my car too actually. hmmm. must stop doing that.

Sorry, but I can see how this will be a place to rest your feet...but not how to use it with your foot controller. Am I missing something??

How do you keep the pedal from slipping off ? What dept. did you find it in.

Neat idea!

As for cutting into the table:

I would suggest cutting out the hole for the machine on another piece of wood to get it the right size. When you finally decide to cut into the table you usually get one shot at it. :)

This might be a good idea for taking to a retreat. One retreat I attended had several people with their foot controls on top of books to raise them up.

Great idea & set up!

I'm only 5' tall - so when sewing at my machine I have to raise up my chair in order to be at the 'right height' ...then my feet dangle and I couldn't reach the machine's pedal. I intend to take the caster/wheels off my cabinet one day, but for now I have a similar set up...I put an upside down banana box underneath the cabinet area. Now my pedal is raised up within reach! Works great for me - but I really like the durability of your Ikea find better.

Hubby cut the legs down on the table so my sewing machine is at the perfect height for me. It is a poly table with metal legs.
