Found them where???

Over the weekend I worked on a baby quilt on my designated sewing machine, had problems and gave up for another day. Then when I wanted to try again (after ripping out previous stitches) one of my gloves was no where to be found anywhere and the spare pair was missing too. Looked everywhere!! Gave up and trimmed 1 1/2 scrap strips to send to a lady in Kentucky who is making a scrappy pineapple quilt. Days later, looked for my missing three gloves again...still nowhere!! After a week of looking I finally went to empty my sewing trash and where I normally just dump it, this time I pulled the trash out by handfull's. There in the lower half of the trash was my missing 3 gloves!! Makes me wonder if I'm starting to loose my mind. Anyone else ever find missing items in strange places??

elnan 02-08-2018 12:07 PM

Constantly!

Irishrose2 02-08-2018 12:46 PM

When you have a reversal problem, it's easy to find the gloves in the waste basket and the trimmings in the cubby where the gloves belong.
Is you waste basket where they could have fallen off the sewing machine cabinet or table?

You didn't happen to find the lost title to one of my trucks in there did you?..............................LOL

I misplaced it and had to eat the $93.00 replacement fee...............no fabric for me "(

cathyvv 02-08-2018 04:04 PM

Once I dropped a finished quilt block in my trash. A few days after the garbage truck picked up, I realized it was missing...Arghh!

Mousie 02-08-2018 04:12 PM

we all need to make a "catcher" with a heavy pincushion weight on the tabletop.
Why? bc my garage can is right next to my table and I have dropped things in
there,
or they got knocked off.
Same thing by my dsm! Catchers, ladies! We need goody catchers!

Peckish 02-08-2018 05:16 PM

Ha! I figured you were going to say you found it sewed to the bottom side of whatever you'd been working on. That's happened to me once or twice. :D

yolajean 02-08-2018 05:19 PM

I also have a waste basket next to my chair where I am sewing. I have a clear acrylic box beside my machine so that I may put my sewing machine feet that I am not using in it. I am so afraid of dropping them into the basket. I've tried the weighted thingy cut it just isn't large enough. I usually check all of my baskets before I empty them. I have 3 in my sewing space. One at the ironing board, one at my cutting mat and the one next to my machine. I spend hours of my life just looking for things I have misplaced. I keep thinking I'm doing better at keeping track but I still spend way too much time "hunting". Always hunting!!!

Irishrose2 02-08-2018 08:50 PM

I have a pink plastic taped to my piecing/FMQ machine and a waste basket under my second piecing machine. I check both as I empty them into the large trash. Too many little things are mysteriously jumped in there.
I spent way too much time searching for a misplaced block this week. Finally found it stacked on another one on the design wall.

petthefabric 02-08-2018 08:53 PM

It's in one of the special places I put things so they won't get lost.

I've got one of those too! In addition, there is a gremlin that periodically appears in my sewing room and moves things out of sight even when I'm using them.

But then I can't remember where the special place is:)

Karamarie 02-09-2018 04:51 AM

Totally understand. Listen to this one. I was shopping yesterday and was ready to leave and couldn't find my keys. Car is a keyless entry and start but still have to have the key within the vehicle. Anyway I dumped out my purse, looked under seats, in pockets and around the car. Guess where they were - IN MY HAND. Geeeeeeez!

Bobbielinks 02-09-2018 04:58 AM

I have learned to place my wastebaskets under the tables far enough back so anything that falls from the table will hit the floor, not the wastebasket. Of course this will not help if I throw something into the wastebasket.

quilttiger 02-09-2018 05:06 AM

I have a bad habit of putting things in places I won't forget. Once I bought a CD as a gift for my DH and put it in a "safe" place. When the time came to present the gift to him, I couldn't find it! Eventually I came across it stored "safely" between fat quarters! We had a good laugh over it. :D

Watson 02-09-2018 05:08 AM

I'm forever dropping my tape measures in there for some reason. I have to fish them out all the time.

janjanq 02-09-2018 05:14 AM

I seem to drop things a lot lately, but the items always seem to bounce somewhere I either can't see them or reach them! Frustrating!

Been there, done that both in the sewing room and with Christmas presents

Your gremlin has a cousin in my house. I never feed him but he still messes with me.

sewbizgirl 02-09-2018 06:51 AM

When I'm quilting, the quilt I'm working on will "pick up" loose things like gloves (if I'm not wearing them), my seam ripper and scraps on the table. As I turn the quilt, it pulls those things along and sweeps them onto the floor. Sometimes the garbage can is there. I have to actually look at what's in there, from time to time.

EmiliasNana 02-09-2018 06:59 AM

I, too, lost one of my quilting gloves. I had just cleaned and reorganized the entire sewing room so knew it wasn't anywhere in sight. I was right.........it had fallen behind my sewing cabinet, which was too heavy to move and was sitting on the floor molding behind it. Had to use a yard stick to scoot it out where I could reach it. Ugh. I have done many of the things mentioned above and some days seem to spend as much time looking for things I just had, than sewing.

I have one of those "safe" places, too. The only problem is that it's so safe, I keeping for getting where it is!

humbird 02-09-2018 07:40 AM

LOL, I thought you were going to say the lady in Kentucky sent them back to you! I have a long list of missing items, and they aren't in my waste basket.

SusieQOH 02-09-2018 07:42 AM

I always check the contents of the trash bag in my sewing room because of that. But only that one. If something gets tossed in the rest of the house oh well.........

institches33 02-09-2018 08:49 AM

My friend found a half gallon of ice cream in her kitchen cupboard.

It had a loose quality.

Innov8R 02-09-2018 09:29 AM

My beloved Austrian shepherd/Lab sidekick takes anything that falls to floor and hides it in her bed. I have to be vigilant to be sure nothing "good" gets to floor level. Unfortunately, my lovely best friend has made away with a few good things. Of course, it was all my fault :o

rosiewell 02-09-2018 10:32 AM

yes, like the milk jug in the cabinet and the coffee cup in the fridge and the rotary cutter under a mound of cut squares etc etc. I guess the mind goes on vacation every now and then

You are not alone. I have done that many times before. Thankful that no one else has noticed so far!! LOL!

Irishrose2 02-09-2018 11:52 AM

My favorite is looking for my sunglasses when they are pushed up on my head.

crafty pat 02-09-2018 11:53 AM

When I loose something the first place I look is my trash can. I lost the manual to my newest machine the second week I had it. It was lost for over a year when I was looking for a pattern I had printed out in a big zip bag full of printed patterns. Right in the middle was the missing manual. I thought it was gone forever and was so happy to find it.

ccthomas 02-09-2018 06:22 PM

When I lose things, I don't immediately know they are gone. It may be months until I want the item, then I tear up the entire house. This isn't a good plan. That is not how they show up. It is a surprise if they ever show again. The latest missing items are my favorite matching opal earring - gone, have no idea when or what state. Baby Jesus is missing from the Christmas manger. I lost a pin cushion with my favorite pins. I could go on.
My husband bought me "Tiles" for Christmas to find my keys, my phone. This is a good tool.

Art4me 02-09-2018 08:32 PM

I'm missing my glucometer and can't find it anywhere. I know I didn't put it any place in particular. I've even moved furniture looking for it. It's too big to be lost!

lindaschipper 02-10-2018 05:42 AM

humbird....this one made me laugh out loud!! Never thought of that!

IceLeopard 02-10-2018 06:04 AM

After sweeping multiple things into the trash, I screwed a cup hook under my sewing table and hung a plastic carry-bag from the supermarket. It hangs *under* the table, so nothing can fall into it, but it's easy to put stuff into it. When it's full, I tie it shut and throw it away.

Now if only I could figure out a system for everything else...

KalamaQuilts 02-10-2018 07:01 AM

same thing happens when snapping green beans or pinching off the green part from strawberries.
Pretty soon beans and berries are in the compost bowl :) snaps and tops in the clean bowl

RedGarnet222 02-10-2018 08:58 AM

Heaven help me if I clean the sewing room and put things in a new place thinking that would be a better, easier spot. It is too confusing at my age to be doing such a thing. I try not to talk on the phone and do anything in the sewing room. That is a big no no for me.

I did the same thing with a nearly completed applique block. Off the arm of mychair and in to the trash. Grrrr!

Bren 02-10-2018 11:59 AM

Latest thing I lost i a small canister of pepper spray I carry in a pocket when I walk my two mini Schnauzers. We live not too far from the river and the coyotes and bobcats seem to be getting bolder. Have looked in all the likely places with no luck...guess I'll just have to buy another. As far as keys are concerned, they were always in a different place in my deep handbags which drove me nuts. I solved the problem when I bought one of those fuzzy ball things (red) that attaches to my keychain. It looks sort of funny, but I can always find them by feel if not by sight. Works for me!

JanieH 02-10-2018 03:12 PM

It's gotten so bad for me finding things in unusual places that I worry 'what was I thinking' when I find something where it is supposed to be!

svenskaflicka1 02-11-2018 07:47 AM

lost my whole key ring for four days--the whole weekend, plus. i could not find that thing anywhere. turned out it was in the fridge, in my lunchbag. one of the sales men we deal with at work had brought in lunch for our department (a small group), so i didn't eat lunch. drove home that night, and having made a stop for groceries on the way home, tried to consolidate things to carry them in from the garage. i didn't pay attention to which bag i'd tossed them for the trip in, and just put the lunch bag away for tuesday, because of a blessed day off on monday. spent all weekend trying to find them, and didn't find them until tuesday morning, when i grabbed the bag, again. i was so relieved. the keys smelled of garlic, just from being in the fridge. and the hubby, who had to lend me his keys for the weekend, has never let me forget it.
