you would like this quilt artist. www.katiepm.com

lillybeck 05-29-2011 10:20 AM

These are georguos but way beyond my skill

jograma 05-29-2011 10:24 AM

Way to busy and complicated for me. I quilt to relax and it is a hobby. Some people are artists and to each his own, I just don't care for it as a quilt.

You'll find several good threads about QU classes if you use the search function up above. Here's a recent one we had. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-122207-1.htm

Here's what Google images came up with http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=fra...=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ACAW_en&prmd=ivns&tbm=isch&tbo=u& source=univ&sa=X&ei=MMLgTd3HL5CZhQe5nsG7Bg&ved=0CD IQsAQ&biw=1916&bih=877 cool eh?! 8-) 8-) 8-)

And check out Rose Rushbrooke's Gallery http://www.roserushbrooke.com/fractal-art-quilts-1.html

As an artist (I paint oils) and a CAD expert, I love the idea. The technique might require some thought. The pictures of those quilts are beautiful!

Have a look and see what you think - this topic has had 48 views but so far no comments. :?

They are beautiful, but I think they are beyond my capabilities at the moment!

patimint 05-29-2011 02:56 PM

They are beautiful and would love to have one (any offers out there?)but they are not for me. They look like WAY too much work to me. I am still just learning the basics of quilting. But they are georgeous.

goldendog55 05-29-2011 03:49 PM

I'm taking a Fractal Fragments quilting class at Quilt University. Learning a lot!

red-warrior 05-29-2011 05:15 PM

Thanks so much!!!! I had no idea you could achieve anything like that!

suern3 05-29-2011 05:24 PM

The very word scares me! And then to hear that math is involved???? Yikes, more power to you all:)

granniesan 05-29-2011 05:30 PM

Different, yet interesting for sure. Almost makes my head hurt just thinking about putting one together! LOL!

goldendog55 05-29-2011 06:00 PM

I've taken classes at Quilt University for a long time, maybe as long as they have been around. I'm really enjoying this Fractal class.

zkosh 05-29-2011 08:17 PM

Thanks for the info and feedback onQU classes, Ghostrider and Goldendog. I'm signed up for the sample class to try it out. I love online classes. :D :D

The grid for my avatar started with the Fibonaci sequence... I just LOVE this stuff! Going to check out your links now! :-D

You are absolutely correct - her work is a-ma-zing! :-D :-D :-D

Kellie G 05-30-2011 10:13 AM

As with any other pattern, some of them I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE and others, not so much. I have too much of a back log now to spend the time to make one. They look very time consuming.

desertrose 05-30-2011 04:06 PM

I find them facinating and some are out of this world, how did they do these! I'd love to see patterns for thse too but I don't know if any are available.

I am not sure if they are really a 'pattern' type of thing, though I suppose some of the simpler ones based on a geometric shapes could be available... I would create, generate in a program, whatever, my own then decide what techniques to apply to creating it- piecing, paper piecing, applique, FMQ, embroidery, beadwork etc etc - the possibilities are endless to create something truly unique. :-D

thank you for the site, I would like to try fractals ....

ghostrider 05-31-2011 04:54 AM

For those who would like to try designing and making a fractal quilt on your own, you might start by reading Rose Rushbrooke's article about fractal quilt making from her website originally posted by k3n.
http://www.roserushbrooke.com/fracta...t-article.html

To find a fractal of your own to translate into a stunning quilt, there are several fractal generator programs available, some free, online.
this one is free, but quite simple and, therefore, limited
http://www.easyfractalgenerator.com/Home.aspx
this one looks to have much more potential and has a free 30 day product evaluation period, cost to purchase the full program is $30 (this site is well worth exploring even if you don't intend to buy...his gallery is amazing, over 500 images all generated with his program...I'm thinking I need this software  )
http://www.fractalsciencekit.com/index.htm
you can find others if you Google 'fractal generators'

deranged_damsel 05-31-2011 05:28 AM

NICE! thanks for the sites Ghostrider :D some nice ideas, for very doable patterns

Thanks for those - I downloaded a couple of freewares and didn't get very far - technically challenged! LOL But I'll try these too. The ones I downloaded gave you Newton, Julia and Mandelbrots to play with but what I'd like to do is say start with a photo of my own, of a butterfly's wing for eg like the one in Rushbrooke's design and manipulate that. Guess I have to spend a bit more time and have a bit more patience!  :-D

ljorange 05-31-2011 04:33 PM

I've been fascinated with fractals since I saw a PBS program a few years ago. The trouble is I start looking at them and the next time I'm aware is a couple of hours later. What is it about them, I just love looking at them.
