I saw this listed in ME. Craigslist w/ picture. Says it's free but needs $35 motor. In original cabinet - it looks beautiful but I'm not into old machines ... yet!

TonnieLoree 03-29-2011 02:14 PM

The cabinet is worth the $35.00 alone. I did think about it as I saw it was in Portland. Further investigation found that it is located in Portland, Maine, not Portland, OR. Have to pass, again! Thanks for the link though.

darlin121 03-29-2011 02:15 PM

It would seem to me that NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME to get an older machine! LOL

I really don't have space but you made a lightbulb go on in my head ... I could use this cabinet instead of the little one I have now.

you talked me into it - emailed seller ~ will see if it's still available. Fingers crossed but hubby's aren't. lol

phatquilts2 03-29-2011 02:59 PM

emerald46 03-29-2011 03:29 PM

It looks just like my treadle and yes the cabinet is worth every penny they are asking.

jljack 03-29-2011 03:36 PM

OOOOOOO!! Oh....wrong coast!! :-(

Ann L 03-29-2011 03:56 PM

too far south, but its a beauty.

mamaw 03-29-2011 04:08 PM

Good luck mommamac, if I were closer...I would grab it for sure. That cabinet is beautiful!! Unfortunately, hubby is out of work for health reasons; so can't spend all the money on gas to travel that far. 1 1/2 hrs. each way for me.

mommamac 03-29-2011 04:22 PM

just got a reply from owner - I'm second in line if first person doesn't come through.

roseOfsharon 03-29-2011 04:23 PM

Holy moly!! All that needs doing is to make it back into a treadle again.. don't need a motor!! Wish I lived near.

MoMiMi 03-29-2011 07:01 PM

Tell us....tell us....did you get it?

Debbie C 03-30-2011 05:16 AM

They say FREE - only an estimate of $35 to repair the machine - GO GET IT!!

Debbie C 03-30-2011 05:17 AM

Scrap Happy 03-30-2011 07:34 AM

If it were in my neighborhood I'd be there in a heartbeat.

MommaDorian 03-30-2011 07:35 AM

Hoping you get it!!

gnewk 03-30-2011 07:42 AM

Jump on it!!!~!

vschieve 03-30-2011 08:03 AM

Our Singer store here in Austin had the exact same machine treadle version in a cabinet just as show. That decal design is called "The Red Eye". I wouldn't mess with a motor either; treadles are so classic.

mudcrab 03-30-2011 08:24 AM

OMGosh! The suspence is killing me, did you get it? I sure hope you did. Let us know.

Hopefully the first person will get lost trying to find it. LOL!!  I hope you end up with it. I love the cabinet!

jlm5419 03-30-2011 10:26 AM

I almost got excited, until I realized this machine was in Maine. I actually have a spare motor.

quilt addict 03-30-2011 10:29 AM

A new belt for the treadle run about $8 so you wouldn't even have to spend $35 to get it running. I hope you get it but have to be fast for those FREE offers.

laughingquilter 03-30-2011 10:31 AM

That cabinet is beautiful!!! So is the machine, working or not. I'm far from Maine, however. Thanks for sharing.

Stacey 03-30-2011 10:31 AM

I'm on pins and needles waiting to hear.

pawebdoctor 03-30-2011 11:06 AM

Dang... I'm in Pennsylvania... if I lived closer, I would get it in a heartbeat.

skitter 03-30-2011 11:12 AM

Is there any word yet from the person giving away the Singer? I wish you luck. I would love to have it myself.

Quilted Nana 03-30-2011 11:32 AM

I like it, but the shipping....:-( I'm on the west coast.

dixiebelle162002 03-30-2011 11:35 AM

You can treadle it, afterall that's what it was originally. :-D

Northquilter 03-30-2011 03:14 PM

This machine would be a good candidate to attach a handcrank--no electricity needed...it is so much fun to use and it is great for teaching young children to sew.
