French country????
 

My friend has recently gone through some very challenging health issues but is now on the mend and I would like to make her a quilt.
When I asked her about colors and her style she said French country--reds, royal blues, creams, etc.
I would like suggestions as to what pattern to use. I am afraid with those colors it would look like a quilt of valor which is not the style I am going for. I'm not even sure what French country is.
Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

A lot of the palettes include a light mustard gold. The light color is cream, not white. The blue I'm used to seeing is a Windsor, kind of toward dusty, in light medium or dark. Lighten up your royal blue a bit, even without going "dusty" it won't look the same as the nearly navy blue of the royal blue in the USA colors.

I think you can tweak it so the colors so it does not mimic a QOV.

I love those colors in a home! I had my last house done that way. It was very colorful but happy to live in. I used a lot of toile, eyelet lace and blue wnd white pottery to set it all off.

I always thought French country was all that blue and mustardy yellow stuff with a lot of toile. Wrong again apparently. lol

I was going to suggest toile also. That would look very French and not at all patriotic.

Here are some points of French Country to keep in mind.
1. Colors used to decorate in"French Country" include sunny yellow and soft gold, fire red and burnt rust, bright grass green and dark hunter green, cobalt blue and soft ocean tones. Bright black and dull grays sometimes punctuate the bright colors.

2. French Country motifs include roosters, olives, sunflowers, grapes, lavender.

3. Toile is a traditional design for French Country fabrics. A white, cream, or yellow ground has large motifs in a single contrasting color, such as black, blue, red, or green. Toile themes include farm animals, monkeys and Chinese patterns, bucolic country scenes, or courting scenes of the 18th century.

Quilts I've seen in this style often have lots of white/cream background fabric.

I looked on Pinterest and saw some inspirational examples. Just put in "French country quilts" and you'll see a great variety from simple to advanced.
