that quilt is so beautiful it is certainly worth the time and effort to take off the right border and turn it over. The left one looks much better

My favorite colors and favorite flower! Our whole row of lilacs bushes are blooming now and its wonderful.
I like the left side better, or keep the right side as it, do the left the same, add a dark purple border. Either way it is gorgeous :) |
I would leave the borders like they are and sew the last two on the same way. In other words, two would have the dark to the outside and two would have the dark to the inside. Just lay it out first and see what you think. Maybe a picture for us?

IMHO the binding is KEY! A couple of gals smarter than me mentioned the binding. I don't know that I would have even thought of it. However, personally . . . when I looked at the two sites that showed patterns and completed quilts, the green binding was a turn-off for me . . . called way too much attention to the binding. However on the one that had the deep lilac binding . . . it just had a polished, well-planned more elegant look. Again IMHO, the binding should not draw attention away from the loveliness of the quilt. If it doesn't enhance . . . it most certainly shouldn't draw the eye away. Please show us your finished work.

Absolutely gorgeous quilt (in my favorite color too) but I do like the left side better. Great job.
|
Beautiful, beautiful quilt! I love it! Gotta say, I looked back and forth, back and forth, between the left and right sides, and liked them both, but in the end, preferred the left one. Glad you decided to unsew your woopsie. (I call it that because you didn't intend to put it on that way, not because it's "wrong".) You'll be happy you did. As for ripping out, make sure your seam ripper is sharp so you're not pulling threads. That'll give you a mess of raveled edges.
|
I, too would turn the offending border around. An absolutely gorgeous quilt!
|
I like the look on the left side too. Having said that, which one do you like? That is the way it should be!

Fellow quilting friends: You just won't believe this, but I've sewed two borders on the quilt, turning the offending one around. It's just wrong. I can't seem to get the picture to upload. I'm losing the two inch beige border if I do not put the purple against it.
Here's the deal. The picture on the front shows the white on the outside and the purple being sewn on. The instructions in the back say the opposite. I'm going looney. Marcia |

Here is the corner of my mess. Do y ou see that the two inch inner border is lost? I also do not like the whiter scallap border against the beige of the inner border. Not enough contrast.
|
I like the purple on the inside better. But it is your quilt and you are the one that will be living with it.
Remember to consider what you will be using for the binding. |
I like what you have done. That the inner border disappears is not a problem as I see it. It blends with the white and only enlarges the look of the scallop effect. I really like it. The whole quilt is beautiful.

I agree with ube quilting - I like the way you have it. In the original pictures, I liked how the narrow cream border blends with the cream of the outer border. It creates a nice visual space between the inner and outer purple. With the outer border turned the other way the cream border is more distinct, but I find it visually choppy.
|
I like the way you currently have it as well. Rather than the narrow cream being a border accent, it carries the background from the body of the quilt beyond the purple inner border. I like how that highlights the inner purple.
Sometimes what we see up close gives a different impression than seeing the whole quilt. Ultimately, though, it's your quilt, so it should be what looks best to you :) Michelle |
First, let me say that your quilt is gorgeous. What I would do is take the middle beige border off and run the outer border (with the purple on the outer edge) up against the purple inner border. I don't think the middle border is necessary. In fact, I think it would be better without it. Just my humble opinion. It will be a lovely quilt whatever you do.

Yes, get the ripper out. Start ripping stitches from the bobbin side. Then pull loose from top thread. It'll go fast. I just ripped a long one yesterday. Your quilt is beautiful.
|
My post was for the ripping of your first dilemma. I see that you did Re sew the boarder. I like it the way you have it now. Beautiful, please show when done. I also enjoyed the comments about binding choices.
|
I would just like to say it's a beautiful quilt and it's your quilt, do what your're comfortable with. Me, I think I would leave it just the way it is. But, if you are going to be unhappy with it every time you look at it, well.......
|
Whatever you decide, I vote for them to go the same way, whichever it is. I checked out the sites mentioned and I agree with the comment about the green binding. A deep purple would look much better, IMHO. Beautiful, beautiful quilt.
