Fresh Lilacs Update mistake
1 Attachment(s)
Here is the completed kit Fresh Lilacs, except for the last border. I sewed the right border on and it is not correct, the one on the left is the proper orientation, but that one is just laying there. So should I take that right border off and turn it around? The top and bottom are the same and the corners mitered.

That's an amazing quilt! You've done a beautiful job!
I do like the left side better. |
I vote to turn it around. Beautiful quilt and very nice work.
Stunning quilt! Yes, I agree, the left border looks better.
That's a gorgeous quilt! I would remove the border and turn it, since I like the look of the left side better. You've put so much work into the quilt, I would make the extra effort to get the last details right.
your quilt is amazing. take it off. it will bother you forever. what a stunning piece of work!
I can't decide. I think what you decide to use for the binding would be what would tip the scales for me.
Maybe lay the at least two sides of the borders out and take pictures and then decide? Along with the binding you are planning to use? At the moment - I think I like the "light edge" facing the edge better if you used a wide dark binding with it. I love the quilt - my favorite colors are in it. |
i much prefer the look on the left
Such a beautiful quilt in the works.
And just in time for Lilac season ..... aaah I can almost smell the fresh blooms!! :) I too am in the Left Camp .... but please ... mitre the corners to keep it looking the best it can. |
That's a beautiful quilt top. Just in time for spring. I love it!
Another vote for the left side. I love how it gives a scalloped look.
Your quilt is gorgeous! I like the left side best, too. But it's your quilt; you can do what you like best.
Which way do you prefer? There is no right or wrong, it looks gorgeous both ways :)
Wow, great quilt. Ya, I would turn the right border around.
I really like the left side. I would un sew the right side and get it the way you want it.
This is a stunning quilt. peace |
Ok....I'll take that out and turn it around. I think your suggestions that I'll always regret not doing it "right" is correct. About 2/3 of the way of sewing that on, it dawned on me that it was not what the instructions said.
Thanks to everyone for your comments. They mean a lot to me. Marcia |
Please invest a little bit of time to change the border. You won't be sorry. To miter the corners will add a very special finish.
I like the left also, but you should do what your eye says. I love the pattern and colors.
Definitely do the orientation of the left side, with the dark outer edge. I don't know what binding color you have selected, but I assume it's dark as well. Gorgeous quilt!

I do prefer the one on the left, though :-) Michelle |
mkc brings up an interesting point. Keepsake's site does show the border with the dark on the inside, but the pattern shows it on the outside. Did someone make a "mistake" with Keepsake's BOM, or was it a "design decision"?
Dark to the inside - http://www.keepsakequilting.com/fres...onth-quilt-kit Dark to the outside - https://www.shabbyfabrics.com/Fresh-...rn-P36726.aspx |
From those two sites - i definitely prefer dark to the inside.
Yes, I also like the left side best. My opinion for what its worth, I'd take the right one off and turn it around to the dark is on the outside. With the light sashing next to it make it seem like its blending from light to dark.
I MUCH prefer the right side border. Maybe I'm looking at it upside-down LOL.
It's a beautiful quilt! |

I love that Fresh Lilacs fabric. I made a quilt last year using it and it turned out beautiful.
Although you can just leave the right border and make the rest match it, I do prefer the look of the one on the left better. So if you're not adverse to doing a bit of ripping, I'd say rip it out and turn it around. |

Dark to the inside - http://www.keepsakequilting.com/fres...onth-quilt-kit Dark to the outside - https://www.shabbyfabrics.com/Fresh-...rn-P36726.aspx Keepsake's is "Fresh Lilacs Color Play". Shabby Fabrics is "Fresh Lilacs" The OP appears to have made the Keepsake pattern, and the original sewn-on border is correct for that pattern. (and I still like the left version better ;-) ) Michelle |
Either way is good, that is one pretty quilt Marcia!
Lovely quilt and I do like the left side border.
It is beautiful - I would make the borders lay the same direction.
Depends on what tou an for the binding. Dark binding, go with the one on the left. Light binding, the one on the right.
Thanks to Dunster for finding that second rendition. In the shabby one the blocks are NOT on point and the borders are totally different: Michele at MKC caught that too. I was so afraid of starting that and not being able to finish because of not having enough fabric, that I bought lots of extra. I have another 4 yards of the border, plus a layer cake and a half yard bundle. And the fabric in the kit was generous. So I'm actually making a set of CW-not piecing the past blocks ( block of the week) out of that fabric.
I took off the sewn on border and am ready to turn it around. The thing I am concerned with now, is that every time I take something out or mess with it more than twice, I get a wad of threads and fraying like mad. I am so almost done!!!.......and then feline fanatic comes on with those curved rulers and that totally awesome quilt. More stuff to buy. Marcia |
You won't be sorry you turned the border around. Your quilt is gorgeous and I love the "on point" to set off the blocks.
That fabric is so beautiful, it doesn't really matter which way it gets put on. I love both ways.
Since you have so much fabric like that, I'm sure you will be making another one. Then you can put that border on the other way. |
I would also turn the right around. For me it tends to lead my eye away from the beautiful work you've done on the middle.
It's a very pretty top! :)
I like the left side better also. That is a stunning quilt. Love the colours & the design. It is going to be awesome when it's all finished. Keep up the great work.
Beautiful top! I love that line of fabric. Yes, I would take it off & turn it around also. I think it will look nicer but it is going to bother you forever if you don't. You have done an awesome job!
