Wonderful way to say what i was thinking! I think i need to start saying that phrase instead of what's on my mind.

I would put the whole project aside until my head and heart were into it completely. Then the pieces will all just fall together.

If they like it as is, wonderful. Finish it for them. If not finish it for yourself or give it to a special friend or neighbor. These kids are too picky! I would not be picking out the butterfly fabric for anyone. That could be a real tough job.

Finish your lovely quilt and give it to someone - even a stranger - who would appreciate and love it.

When a person receives a gift from someone who doesn't HAVE TO GIVE a gift, it means so much more.

I would finish the quilt and give it to a complete stranger that looked liked they needed a quilt. These people have already walked across your feelings so quit catering to them.

You've received awesome advice and support. I agree with those who say to avoid catering to unappreciative relatives and friends. I would continue the work as best I could and bring the quilt to a nursing home or a charity of choice where it will be appreciated. I would not keep this one for myself! Just put it behind you.

If you decide to finish the quilt you might want to try doing the repair by doing the patch/repair as an applique rather than a pieced repair.

Neither of them obviously appreciate all the time and effort you have devoted to this quilt so far, so forget about being kind and making it to their liking. Just finish it for yourself and enjoy!

My daughter wanted a quilt with Asian fabrics. I found a panel, pattern, and coordinating fabrics and asked her if she liked them. She said yes. I began making the quilt, which I like a lot, and decided I would not show it to her until it is done. I think she will like it as much as I do.

That's why one of my family members doesn't have a quilt.....yet.

I would say don't ever make another quilt for these people. Tell them you've had bad experiences making quilts for the family and would rather make them for someone you know would appreciate them.
