I know we all love to make quilts here. The very first one I made was given to my niece when she was one year old. The second one I made I kept. This is the only one that I still have. It's the Maple leave block. After that, I lost count. I seriously don't how many I made and I didn't take picture of them until recently.
Now for the question. How many quilts have you made for yourself? How many quilt have you made total. |
I have made over 300++. Have 5 kids and have made at least 5 each for them and then for the 14 grandkids. for the 7 brothers and sisters. aunts, grandmothers. I DO HAVE PICTURES OF ALL OF THEM
my kids say keep them coming, they love them.I have made them for sale, for quilt raffles for churches.all family babies. my wedding presents are quilts, Linus quilts, I could go on and on. Quilting is my peace of mind. my back up stength, by pastime, my love, my comfort. my crafting outlet, my design outlet,my love of fabric and quilting books, magazines. If I could not quilt, I think I would lose it. My brother said my machine is a work horse and he knows noone who can spend so much time at the machine. lol, I CAN!!!!!!!! QUILTING IS MY WAY OF LIFE. :P :P and every bed in my house has quilts and wall hanging around the house. |

I have a list at home. I think it is near 30, but that includes the UFOs lurking in the closets.
I have sold 11, and posted pics of almost everything here on the board. The first quilt I made was peach and aqua and dark gray if you can imagine that. (actually the dark gray print is a calico with the aqua and peach in it.) It was in the Beginners Quilting class and I have learned a lot about color since then. I gave that small lap quilt to my Grandmother, who passed away 2 years ago, so it is mine now. I have made quilts for my mother and her mother, but they won't use them. I made one for my dad, and it is permanently over the back of his loveseat. I wish he would make it a wall hanging, but he is a bachelor. My daughter uses her black and white quilt all the time. It looks better and better the more it is used. |

I have made one for myself. I have made 10 total. My first was a blue rail fence for my now late nephew.
|
If you include tablerunners and wall quilts and baby quilts, HUNDREDS of them. For myself, I have probably 20.
|
I have just started number 65. Not all of them are done, but I do keep track of who has the ones that are complete.
I have kept 34 and have "let loose" the rest. I also have made 24 dolly quilts for the church bazaar. I take pictures of EVERY quilt I make, and have kept records of size, date completed and the names I gave them. |
Sally,
I too started quilting in high school. That was also 40 years ago. I have no idea how many I have made. I probably have at least 30 in various shapes and sizes around here that are for me. I routinely give them as gifts and donate lots of Linus quilts, quilts for soldiers, as prizes for guild or other fund raisers etc. I am trying to make at least 5 Linus quilts a week lately in an effort to clean out some of my stash. The chairity items are usually entirely machine made. I have handquilted probably 50 bed size quilts for money. I make tote bags out of scraps and leftover batting that our local Senior center sells. Last year I made purses for all of the females in my family for Christmas. I use my embroidery machine to make pillows, shirts and pillowcases for gifts. etc. etc. Sewing is what keeps me going. making one for yourself can be expensive. I have a California King bed! I have one that I finished in 2004 and one is at the long armer's so I will be able to change it up once in a while.

Humm, good question, about 20 I think, and have only kept 1 for my kitty, one for me and one for my hubby.
I have made 10 since end of may '08. |
I have no idea how many I've made really. I know that I've given away 5 quillows - one with a pieced top, and kept one for myself. I've given a tree skirt, some wall hangings, a few baby quilts & doll quilts. The quilt I gave to my Mom came back to me when she went into the Alzheimer's care facility. The cat has a small one & I have the first quilt that I ever actually made myself, from design to binding - it's my "couch quilt", the perfect size for snuggling under to watch tv. I have a whole cabinet full of, um, "summer quilts" LOL, all different shapes & sizes. I'm actively working on 4 quilts right now - the 'wedding quilt' (a single Irish Chain), one for quilt class that will actually be 2 different quilts when done (Bamboo & Windmills?), a wonky 9-patch by Lyn Mann (was going to philanthropy, decided to give it to great nephew for Xmas instead) & an 'artsy' Halloween wall hanging for a friend. Whew! I'm tired now, I think I need to go lie down for a while....
|
i have made 2 that i kept for myself (lap quilts) and a few wall hangings for the house, my kids each have a quilt I made them. I have given away about 10-12 lap to large twin sized quilts. Plus I have made a few tote bags, I think 4, I donated 2 to a silent auction and kept the other ones! The next two actual quilts on my list of projects are to stay in my house and the wallhangings etc are all planned to stay at my house too!
|
I've never kept count but I think it's about 20-25. I've only made one for myself and that's a Christmas themed lap quilt that only comes out for a few weeks each year. DH keeps asking me when I'm going to make one for our bed. Probably never.
|
I started quilting in earnest in Dec 1999. I made 3 bed quilts and several wall hangings before then. Since then I have made about 100 quilts and wall hangings. I mostly make snuggle size quilts and wall hangings. I also have about 12 UFO and WIPs right now.
|
First quilt I ever made was a sampler queen size...ended up being a bit wonky but I gave it to an older brother whom I adore...
After that I made a beautiful quilt for a friend, no pic and then a couple of easy baby quilts. Finally started taking pictures...because I gave them all away. I gave some to my nieces and nephews...nothing fancy as they were young, just something for them and my sis wouldn't even use them. I have given most of all I make away...to family and friends...seems one I am working on as a UFO finds a person to whom it should go to... Right now I have seven or eight that I have kept that are finished. This doesn't include table runners nor mats... I have several works in progress or UFOs....not sure what will happen to those... I love to quilt and machine embroider...I love fabric... Help!!! :) K |

One.
A twin bed size tied quilt. However, I'm 13 so I may someday be able to say, I've done 300+ quilts! |
I've made 1 for myself, in the process of making another one for myself. The first one has never been on the bed-Christmas theme. I've probably donated over 100.

I have made NONE for myself.
Can't remember how many I've made for others...... |
I keep saying "I'm making this quilt for myself" but for some reason it always seems to "find another home" Of course, my daughter is famous for saying, "I should always get the first one you make of any pattern!"
I make one very special quilt each year. I find a war veteran and give it to him or her with a letter of THANK YOU FOR MY FREEDOM. Sometimes this veteran is someone I know, but most of the time it is a total stranger. No I don't do this on Veteran's Day. I just do this whenever I get the quilt done. I've donated quilts to the local battered woman's shelter and to the police and fire departments. I made and donated quilts to an organization called NEWBORNS IN NEED. As far as how many have I made? Sorry, I just don't count them anymore. As far as for myself? I'll get that accomplished one of these days. |
I've made about 100 - have pictures of the ones I've given away in a scrapbook - consider quilts to be how I will be remembered when I'm gone. Most were wedding gifts, and many were baby gifts. My kids have several each - as do my grandchildren. I have 8 in my house - plus quilted covers for most of my cookbooks. My DH made great bookcases for our cookbooks that allow them to be displayed flat against the kitchen walls so the covers show. I'll take a picture some day (LOL - how many times have I made this promise?) and post it. We have an old Victorian farmhouse with a big kitchen and ample wall space. I overflowed from my original sewing room into my daughter's former room, so I have 2 sewing rooms - one where I sew and one with my stash and cutting table.

Ive made about 45 lap size and 3 bed size. I take pictures of all and who I gave them to.
Also belong to a small group of women where we make quilts for soldiers who have come home from the war. 300 quilts WOW. I will never get that far since just started quilting 4 yrs ago and just turned 69 yrs old. But I sure will try. |
I started quilting many years ago but life got in my way. Sometimes I go over a year without making a quilt and since I've retired I'm more productive. I have pictures of 3/4 of them The closest count I've been able to come up with is 46 and I have three of them.

Wow Sally!!! Over 300!!!
I'll never reach that. |
Wow!
I've made 7 baby quilts, have 1 commissioned quilt in progress, and 3 baby quilts ready to be cut. I have the fabric for about 3 queen size also planned and ready to start. I have 3 WIPs, not including the commissioned quilt. I always put the "money quilt" first. I have NONE for me, but will be making a turning twenty for my bed and, of course, I will have the blue and white star quilt. I have a birthday block exchange going with my buddies here, and will have a queen quilt then. I've been quilting almost 3 years. Everything is done by hand. |
Wow, most of you have such impressive 'vital statistics' !
Mine: Quilts for babies of my friends - 2 Quilted cushion cover for my bed - 1 Quilted window seat cover for my cats - 1 UFO's - 3 My excuse if I've only been quilting for 3 months! :D |

I only wish that I had recorded all of the quilts that I've made. Now that probably sounds very impressive, but it's really not. Many of them were whole-cloth and tied. But my first -- I taught at an elementary school (first grade) and some of the staff member there were quilters. One of them suggested that we make friendship quilts -- each of us would make a block for each of the participants. We would share our blocks and put them into a quilt for ourselves. When I look at the block that I made I am so embarrassed. It is well made, but at the time I didn't even know that blocks had names, etc. I put together this 9-patch that kinda looked like a churndash, but it really wasn't. :? Anyway, I made my quilt and hand-quilted it. I've tried my hand at a lot of different techniques, but really enjoy strip piecing and putting together traditional blocks. I'll never be able to get all the quilts in "my head" done in this lifetime.
