time for a little review and synopsis, i think. might turn out to be a bit like herding squirrels, but what the heck. LOL

i'm sensing a general preference for bumping it up to 2 blocks per month. some say both on the first. others suggest 1st and 15th.

i am still very concerned that we don't confuse and terrorize the many who are content with one. i ain't the boss o' nobody h'yar but i do feel strongly that we ought to leave the original BOM alone and think "additional" not "changed".

so how about an experiment ...

Since Country Quilter is next in line for the original (BOM #1), and seems tickled by the possibility of not having to wait until May, can we agree that she should feel free to post on the 15th of this month ... in a separate thread (BOM #2) that makes clear we aren't trying to press any unwilling players into the additional game?

since Ruth says she prefers to just watch and not pick, Norah would be next in line for the 1st of May for BOM #1. (assuming we haven't given her a nervous breakdown by then. LOL)

that gives us another month from now to think and haggle details without overstressing any who want to stick to one per month.

i think.

(yes, Admin, please do give us a fainting Emoticon. i feel a real swoon comin' on. LOL)
  :?

Patrice
That sounds good to me. I'm all for it.

ceannastahr 04-11-2007 03:59 PM

thats sounds good to me sort of like having 2 seperat BOM.

then post pics to aproprriate thread BOM1 or BOM2

quiltnurse 04-12-2007 04:43 AM

soooooo now we are up to 3 blocks a month?
QN/daphne

susan s. 04-12-2007 05:17 AM

I agree. Two blocks. Separate threads. 1st or 15th is all good., Glitter maybe. Pop-cycle-sticks, I'm trying to visualize. Orange rinds, I think not! But I DO really want more EMOTICONS! PPPPPPlease....!

Norah 04-12-2007 06:35 AM

Sounds good to me. I'll be ready, if it's a go.

not sure, to tell you the truth. i know we have BOM#1, posting only once per month, on the 1st

the [experiment] for BOM#2 starts on the 15th of Apr with Country Quilter's post.

Norah posts to BOM#1 on the 1st of May. Whether we post again to BOM#2 on the 1st or wait until 15 May remains to be discussed.

i think.

quiltnurse 04-12-2007 07:13 AM

OK I'm still in

susan s. 04-12-2007 07:55 AM

I don't think the 1st or 15th is all that important. If both are posted on the 1st then they are available anytime one is ready and also they will still be there on the 15th.; Right?! We all know the important Point is weather or not we are having fun, feeling inspired and learning new stuff. Misty's BOM idea turned out to be quite an attention getter. We obviously all loved it! So now the Question is? How much more of a good thing can we handle? It's just simply a matter of kicking the speed up on the frequency of new Block's. At this point I believe the major Q to ask is if the person next in line is ready to post? Since it is sooner than the block would have originally been due to post. Maybe we should ask her what she would prefer. We wouldn't want to inadvertently stress anybody out, would we? :?

Country Quilter 04-12-2007 08:01 AM

Well, when I posted my thoughts, I stated the 1st and the 15th as I figured it would be something to look forward to twice a month instead of just once... its not up to me..... and whoever it is that makes this decision, just let me know...I am ready to post on the 15th if thats what you want me to do. Makes no nevermind to me or nothing!!! :)

Carla P 04-12-2007 08:48 AM

I can go for 2 blocks a month. Posting frequency? Obviously on the 1st for the first BOM, and the second one? For simplicity, I agree with (on or around) the 15th. These dates are easy to remember. This should not become as complicated as a Congressional Hearing. I signed up because it was simple; my vote is that it stay that way (I'm just 1 voice though- Majority rules!!).

Norah 04-13-2007 11:07 AM

I want to put the BOMs all in one quilt and I am impatient a little bit is why I would like 2 a month. What I want io know is where is the list now so we know who is next?

Knot Sew 04-13-2007 12:16 PM

How about a BOM for every 12 who sign up and stagger them so you can belong to more than one if you want

patricej 04-13-2007 12:30 PM

Admin has given his ok for Country Quilter to post on the 15th, under separate threads (one for instructions and discussion, the other pictures; like the April 1st).

Norah, assuming you agree, you'll go on the 1st of May, also separate threads.

Using the original list, that would give mimisharon until the 15th of May to decide if she wants to post then or wait until 1 June. If she wants to wait, we can ask Marcella if she wants to go on 15 May.

None of this should be taken to mean that I'm trying to make any rules. I just exercised a bit of caution and checked with Admin to make sure we could do something on the 15th without getting fussed at.

That gives us another month to haggle over any details the majority feel need further discussion.

Nobody needs to feel obligated or pressured to do more than one per month.

Kitty is just napping again. No need for smelling salts.
:-)

Knot Sew 04-13-2007 12:46 PM

That sounds good, I have been learning to applique and really like it. It's easier than piecing to me. I have a hard time where 4 pieces meet. So it should be interesting to see what is offered...... :-)

Barb V 04-13-2007 06:00 PM

Am I understanding this right, there will NOT be a new Block for the 15 of April?? The 2 blocks a month will begin in May... if people wish to do both???

patricej 04-14-2007 01:37 AM

The "schedule" to date is ...

Country Quilter has confirmed she will post another block on the 15th of April. Admin says ok. :-)

Norah - i hope - posts on 1 May.
Sharon could post on the 15th of May, or on the 1st, I guess, if the crowd talks her into it.
Then Marcella ... etc.

In the meantime, we are still free to keep talking about other ways to do it if that still doesn't sound "right" to multiple block crowd.

stressing again that this is NOT an attempt to decide or control this. i did check with Admin to make sure we wouldn't get "in trouble" for not waiting until 1 MAY. Otherwise, this is just an attempt to summarize and clarify what we seem to have come up with so far.

susan s. 04-14-2007 05:49 AM

I am sooo..... excited to see the next block. Bring it on countryquilter! :D :D :D

Ruth I Love applique also, but, hope you will keep trying with the piecing! it really is fun. Here's what you do. I'm assuming first off you are already sewing three strips with the block sections. I do down left side then center then right. Doesn't matter which order, But you must square off ea. finished section. They all so far have 9 sqs. within the block. I gotta tell ya I have yet to see one of mine come out without some uneven edges. Trimming the edges and making the like sections the same size and the sides that go together straight I have found is a major key to getting the four corners to agree. Then the pressing is important. I make sure they are pressed opposite of ea other. you can pin easier that way. Right between the seems. I spent so much time ripping on the last two frolic blocks, I think 1/2 of my time spent was ripping. :-D

quiltnurse 04-14-2007 06:15 AM

so we will have 2 blocks for each month at staggered intervials plus the alerady threads for the previous months? And all our chatter? We need to find a way to archive? or cut down on some of this, there wil not be time for room for any thing else on the site.Or will we just erace the prevous months at a given time on the following month. For example Arpil's blocks threasd come off May 15. Then May comes off JUne 15. That gives time to get the info, show off and down load whatervr and still have room for the next month.

We seem to have simplified the offer dates, now lets do hte same for the rest. Just a thought. See you Sunday at chat.

quiltnurse 04-14-2007 06:17 AM

Susan I am so glad to know I was not the only one with problems with the peicing.

Norah 04-14-2007 06:18 AM

I'll be ready for the 1st of May. I'm glad this is not a problem. I want more blocks to do. Give me applique, give me piecing. I don't care!! Just Give me blocks. Yippee!!!!

i vote we leave the posts there in case anybody wants to review the discussion if they join later and want to "catch up". if somebody does March 2007 in July 2012, i'd still love to see it posted with all the others.

they won't get in the way as long as we label each topic by month and date. they "old" ones will just fall farther and farther back as new topics come up. (i still find it useful to search through waaaaaaay old topics and posts when i need to revisit something or see if we've already talked about a subject i have a questions about.)

ceannastahr 04-14-2007 06:37 AM

I think they should stay up for more then one month No everybody can get to the right away

Yvonne 04-14-2007 06:43 AM

Perhaps, we could edit the headings of the March and April blocks to include the name of the block that was posted that month. In the future the block names could be included as well as the month it was posted. That way there would be a second method of finding what one is looking for. I can forsee wanting to revisit that frolic block and I probably will not remember the date we made it but the name is possible. :D

Just my two cents worth... and that's about all it's worth too!

Happy about the two blocks a month. I'm with Norah. The more the better! Gotta keep those sewing machines working or they'll freeze up!

quiltnurse 04-14-2007 06:53 AM

what ever works for the majority is fine, I am always looking for simple quick way to find and do stuff. And because I am not a c-geek I am some times overwhelmed by what is avable and then figuering out how to get there.

Yvonne 04-14-2007 07:03 AM

Quiltnurse, there's "only" 13 pages of posts here to date. How could things get lost! I can get lost in my sewing room!!!
I know what you're talking about. Right now the April BOM post is was down the list and getting lost in all the other topics. I wish the current BOM could be locked at the top of the topic list with the BOM rules. When the new one comes up they could 'release' the old one to go floating whereever and lock the new one in.
OR here's an idea... Drum roll please......

Could there be one large folder at the top that ALL the BOMs could reside in after their month is done?

Oh, I need more coffee. It's way too early for thinking!!!

quiltnurse 04-14-2007 07:09 AM

exactly what I was looking for. then we can find it, others can look if they want and still there is room for .......

patricej 04-14-2007 07:16 AM

this sounds like a job for Super-K (Admin). maybe if we ask reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel nice, he'll start the BOM as a new category, like "Main" is, under the primary Forum Index.

would that be along the lines you were thinking?

Yvonne 04-14-2007 07:18 AM

I hadn't thought of it quite like that but that would be perfect. We could even leave the pictures in there too, mayhaps!?!?!!!!

GREAT thinking, Patrice!

ceannastahr 04-14-2007 07:41 AM

Leave it to Patrice shes always thinking She seem to no what we're thinking too but puts it into words better

quiltnurse 04-14-2007 07:51 AM

she is a computer queen. I love her!!!

patricej 04-14-2007 08:06 AM

thank you all very much. i love you guys, too.

ok. if we behave ourselves for another month, i'll ask Admin if we can have a BOM category. (not that i'd try to stop anybody else from asking first. i'd just like us to write our own "rules" first. if we have to have the durned things, i'd rather they were the product of our definitely agreed upon ideas. LOL)

QN... I think your concern is great. But... What room are you talking about? I is a computer engineer. I can assure you, the board is not running out of room, there is no need to archive anything, no need to delete anything. We are nothing more than a gnat on the butt of a very large elephant, a 6000 ft tall blue elephant. Or maybe it's pink?

Perhaps the length of the threads intimidates you? Just scan for the pretty pictures, key in on people whom you respect, do a little casual reading in between, next thing you know, the thread is read. Me? I scan for those whom I know will be giving me the most grief. Patrice, Kathy, ButterCream... just get in line to abuse

quiltnurse 04-14-2007 08:17 AM

just rember keep it SIMPLE some people will get turned off if it is too comvluted (like me)anyway what are the "rules " now? I do think a seperate space for us is a great idea.

patricej 04-14-2007 08:33 AM

no rules. at least not yet. hope we can avoid them.

separate space was a proposed solution to prevent convolution. not asked for yet. not set in concrete. plenty of time for ideas to keep bouncing around until we hit on something that works for as close to everybody as we can get it.

ser kewl

quiltnurse 04-14-2007 08:33 AM

I just found the rules and a list of names, are there really only 37 of us?even with 2 blocks a month that leaves me a year to figure out how to do the block post and info. Yea

patricej 04-14-2007 08:45 AM

this is where we seem to be as of page 4: (quoting myself)

Admin has given his ok for Country Quilter to post on the 15th, under separate threads (one for instructions and discussion, the other pictures; like the April 1st).

Norah, assuming you agree, you'll go on the 1st of May, also separate threads.

(done quoting myself)

thousands of people looked at the march stuff. thousands again looking at April. hundreds of downloads. so the "only 37" is relative.

ain't it great? :P

Norah 04-15-2007 01:31 AM

Tim, are those your cute little toes in your avatar? You are going to have to go everywhere incognito now because we might recognize you.

susan s. 04-15-2007 04:58 AM

When I first came to the site I was more interested in pictures of quilts and pattern's. (I still have not been able to decide on a pattern for the fabric I was so excited about at the time) But I would like to see a thread with pictures only of ea. BOM as they come in without any chat between. The name of the block, and date posted of course would be in the subject line. Each individual quilter's info posted with thier block and maybe a small blurb by the quilter at time of posting. It would be WAY COOL if the reply box on these pages would send any comments on individual pieces to a separate thread. How hard would that be Tim. ??

I was in the process of laying out the blocks on YBR and thought having some photos of the prospective blocks would let me see how it all came together.

I thought y'all would like my toes. Besides, that's my better side, photographically.
