I always like to read the posts where people found some good deals, I had one yesterday. The ad said sewing items were included so I found the sale. The sale wasn't too big, and no sewing machines in sight, so I picked up a roll of Hobbs batting. The young lady in charge asked me if I quilted and in learning I did, she asked if I was interested a box of fabric that had been her Mom's stash. It was all quilting cotton, mostly from Joann's in the past few years. I asked how much and she said the whole box for $5. I make crafts as well as quilts so that worked for me. I got home and took everything out to launder it, and realized it had all been individually marked - a total of $57 worth. It took me almost 3 hours to get it all ironed. There were a few strips and squares all cut, but most was 1/2 to 3 yards cuts, I estimate 40 yards or more. There is a 2 yard cut of a pretty black and olive by RJR that should make a lovely purse. I'm having such fun just looking at it I almost hate to put it away. It's like a rainbow sitting on the sewing table! She was happy it was finding a new home and would be appreciated! Someday I'll find that vintage machine, but for now, I'm quite happy.

Sounds like another quilter who taught her daughter to pay it forward. Quilters are good people. You feel like you were the winner but guess what. The daughter was the winner. I am glad her daughter recognized you were a quilter so she has peace of mind her mother's stash is now safe and sound. Enjoy it. /Regards, Dorothy

Well worth the hours of ironing. Congratulations! I'm sure her mother was very happy to see it put to use instead of being stored away in a box.

That's exactly why I have my own camera. I always know where it is. In my purse, or on my desk! It's a small one. Takes great pics. :)

Ditter43 06-28-2010 07:07 AM

Kellie G 06-28-2010 07:21 AM

Good morning Ladies, speaking of deals at garage sales, I need some advice. A local quilt shop has a Koala Outback Jr. sewing table, used for $600.00. I am trying to contain myself and not impulse buy. I have researched it as much as I know how and find it is no longer made. Please help Thanks

grandme26 06-28-2010 08:25 AM

Not a fan of garage/lawn/carport sales but will start checking the adds for ones that say fabric.

I am not familiar with the table, but my theory is "if the shoe fits, charge it." Go for it, otherwise you will always wish you had.
Good luck.

ruthieg 06-28-2010 09:52 AM

Great yard sale. I am happy for you. I say buy the table if you want it. You may never find it again.

Jeanniejo 06-28-2010 09:57 AM

Makes me wonder where all my fabric and "toys" will end up when I'm gone

GrammaNan 06-28-2010 11:01 AM

Neat!

Bevanger 06-28-2010 11:30 AM

cassiemae 06-28-2010 12:51 PM

Good for you doesn't is just make you feel soooooo much
better when you can actually come away with a good deal.
Keep going. I go but have never come across anything like you did.

cassiemae :-D

Margie 06-28-2010 03:05 PM

LUCKY DUCK enjoy it

Fabriholic 06-28-2010 03:29 PM

I bet the gal who sold you the fabric was glad to know it was going to someone who actively sews/quilts. I had knitting and crocheting yarns from my mom and I gave them to a women's group at the church. They really appreciated them and I know they will utilize them. You just never know what's going to surface at a garage sale!
