Generic feet

Hello! I have a babylock unity and I am needing additional presser feet. I was wondering what any of you thought about the 32 and 42 piece generic sets for sale on amazon. Thanks for all comments and insights.

I have found generic feet to be okay with the exception being the ruffle and walking feet I have the brother version of your machine and half my feet are generic

I have a Viking and only tried a generic foot once- with a bad outcome. Since then I only purchase feet made for my machine. I figure the extra cost is still less than the repair bill was.
That was 14 years ago- there ( hopefully) has been improvements since then. I would see if they list the machines the feet are good for.

Agree with ckcowl about the Viking, that is *still* a valid issue 14 years later. Trying out each foot in a generic set from Amazon was a scary clunking needle breaking experience... So I now only use Viking feet on the Ruby. I found I did have another non-Viking machine which was able to use about half of the set. Go slow and try out each one.

I have only purchased from my local dealer. She has sales often and I bought them one-by-one as needed for projects. They are all stored in a small plastic case with dividers I labeled.

Love the new machine that came with a case and many feet included. Lucky they all mix with each other.

I have placed orders for other supplies from here with good customer service and shipping.

My Babylock works fine with generic feet. Viking, Pfaff or Bernina I wouldn't even try. Janome, Brother, Babylock and Juki seem to be ok with generic feet.

I just recently purchased a generic quarter inch foot w/seam guide for my Janome 6600 and it works fine. I visited a guild where several of the members had one on the same machine and were very happy with it so I ordered one for myself.

My Viking has all Viking feet, as does the BL......but Ihave found good prices for both at sewingmachinesplus.com...hope it's ok to mention...not affiliated, but a customer of.

I have a Viking Husqvarna Opal and bought a generic spring action quilting foot from Amazon and it worked fine. On the other hand, I had tried a generic walking foot and that didn't work, but was able to give it to a friend that could use it. My other presser feet are all OEM feet.

I have them for my Brother and am very happy with them

I have an old Kenmore (low shank, screw on feet) and a couple of newer Brothers (low shank, snap on feet). Make sure that the set is correct for your type of machine. I've also purchased generic individual feet (Little Foot, Binding Foot) from a Chinese vendor for less than $5 each and have been pleased with them.

I have used generic feet on my Janome, Brother, Singer all with no problems. The only machine that didn't like the one generic foot was my Babylock and it of course was the most expensive foot the darning foot. I don't know what the problem was literally they look identical but I can not do FMQ using the generic one. If you order make sure that they accept returns.

I have a Babylock and only use BL feet. Not that generic wouldn't work..I've just never tried it.

I've purchased several generic feet for my brother and been very happy with them.

I bought a set of these - and have used them on all three of my Pfaffs(2170, 2058 creative 2.0), my brother cs6000i and even on my featherweight. They work just fine for me.

lindaschipper 02-13-2018 03:48 AM

Do you have a low shank or high shank machine? I have so many feet for Janome machines as I inherited my sisters, and have two machines of my own with a third on the way. Some of these attachments I'll never use. To me, it would be cheaper to purchase only the attachments that you really want and need and not 30 that you will never use.

EmiliasNana 02-13-2018 06:08 AM

My low end Brother, my Babylock Ellure Plus, my Singer Quantum 9940, and my Featherweight all take the same low shank feet and are interchangeable with the snap-on attachment. I even bought the attachment foot for my Bernina that allows "other" feet to be used. If the shank is the same, they all should work. The only thing I would buy specific to the machine is a walking foot as the spacing of the feed dogs are all different on different machines, but the "generic" feet have worked well for me. Good luck.

Save yourself a lot of time, heartache and money, buy the feet made for your machine. I was buying generic feet, especially the walking foot, but none fit my Bernina. I wrote to the company and I was amazed to learn I was buying the wrong feet. My Bernina 1008 is an "old style" model. My next purchase is the "correctly" numbered free motion foot

I have a set that works well on all of my Pfaffs.
