I've always had really good success using Whink Rust & Iron stain remover with rust on white fabric.
If you use the liquid Whink (brown bottle), it is color safe. Used it for 20+ years. Live in an area w/heavy iron (rust) and lime in the water table. Makes doing laundry interesting.
