Getting rust stain out?
 

I just got my quilt back from the hand-quilter and it has several rust stains on the back from rusty nails in the quilt frame. The backing is white. Anybody have any ideas about how to get it out? A very good friend told me to make a paste of salt and lemon juice to dab on with a q-tip but haven't tried it yet. Thanks for any help !!

There is a line of products called Stain Devils carried in some grocery stores/Walmarts, etc. One of the formulas is for rust and I've never had it fail. All of them in fact work very well, I've been using this stuff for 20 years. Just follow instructions on each bottle.

they have a product at craft stores called Grandmas stain release. try that.

There is a new product on the market. It's called Resolve Gold remover. It's by Dawn. I love it. I use it on my DH's jeans after he works on our vehicles. I bought a bottle of the Grandma's. It's pricey and to me it was useless. I used it according to directions and nothing but a pitb. Another product I used to use when I had to deal with well water was "IRON OUT". At the time I used it with the laundry detergent. If I needed to only use a small amount I mixed a teaspoon to 2 cups of water and used a Qtip to apply. So far I really like the Resolve Gold. If it's just on the edges, I would just do a section at a time. It only has to set 30 secs. I would pour a small amount 1/4 cup and just apply wit the tip and see what happens. You may want to try it on a sample scrap of your fabric for a color test. But it did no harm to my DHs jeans. I also tried it on greas and egg from breakfast one day. Worked. No harm to my green shirt. And what Car-in-only suggested. Since it works for her. I'm checking that out also.

I've always had really good success using Whink Rust & Iron stain remover with rust on white fabric.

I hope you have luck and tell the lady as best as you can with what happened so she can fix the quilting frame. Good Luck !!

Just don't spill the Whink on tile floors. Someone my dh knows ended up replacing a kitchen floor because of Whink.

Thanks everybody! I have enough examples around the edges that will be cut away to bind it to try everyone's suggestions! Just wish there were not 8 or 9 out in the quilted area!!

Bar Keepers Friend is a rust remover. I used it very successfully when many years ago, I had an old washing machine that had chips in the tub and if I let the clothes sit too long, they would pick up rust from the chipped metal drum.

Sprinkle it on, and take a soft toothbrush with a little bit of water. It takes it right out. Be sure to rinse well.
