Having been a seamstress for decades AND doing many other crafts needlework, knit, crochet - it's rare for anyone to give me something that has been made by them. I will tell you that I positively treasure something that someone else has taken the time and thought to create a gift just for me, no matter what it is. A friend told me once that since she only 'throws together' pot pourri she feels it's a paltry gift compared to something I have made. Well, darn it.....that pot pourri makes me think of her every time I inhale it or even just walk past. What could be more special than that?

My DSIL gave a quilt to my new grandson. Does that count? It was so adorable. Now I'm making one for his first big-boy bed. They'll both be used and loved equally.

I received a cute wall hanging from someone on here & I love it. It has a special place in my sewing room.

I never make pot holders for myself and would love it if i received a quilted one.

I do send quilted items to quilters -- but not full size quilts

I have made many quilty items for quilting friends in the past like tote bags, wool felted pin cushions, chicken pincushions, humbug bags etc. Especially for Christmas. I have not made them quilts. I received one tied fleece blanket. I thought most of them to quilt and they are always very appreciative for the help I gave them. I think it would cost them too much time to make items for their quilty friends as they would like to make items for their family. I was a little sad when my youngest two DDs came and they did not make a simple quilt while they do all the time for others at church or that they know.

Maybe they're worried you're an undercover (underquilt?) operative for the quilt police.

I received a lovely quilted table runner many years ago from a dear friend that I helped to begin piecework. She was already highly accomplished in crochet, knit lace with the finest thread and constructed beautiful clothes for her daughters. She did NOT need much help.

When we moved from our home in Oregon to Washington, the gals in my Friday sewing group each made a block and finished it into a quilt for me. It is hanging in my sewing room and I absolutely love it....the memories that came with it are priceless!!!

I think that we are somewhat afraid that we will give something quilted to the quilt police. Several of my friends havve made bow tucks purses. I want one so bad.......have tried making them twice and they were disasters, yet when I say something to my friends, they assure me I can make one. They saw the lousy job I did on the last 2--didn't even try using them--they were that bad.
I keep thinking maybe they will take mercy on me, but so far, not yet.

I would love to get quilted things from my daughter. I don't make things for myself and would like to have something she made. She also sells jewelry, but never gives me jewelry. Something is wrong here, I think. Now, my daughter who cross stitches, give me the most beautiful stitched projects. I love and treasure them. I could make them myself, but I like the efforts that she put into the items. Photo is below.

Christmas Counted Cross Stitch Lorri did and framed for me.

Most of my friends are better quilters than I am so I would be hesitant to give a quilted gift. On another note I saw a sleeve done for a fat quarter that I thought was really unique and I am going to use that Idea.
