I returned the one I got. I know it's not for 'picking' seams but that's what I'm used to and I prefer it. I got a surgical type one from a shop for $4 and it has a smaller tip so it's easier. I still prefer my old fashioned one though-I can leave the top off and not worry about slicing myself up accidentally.

I like that. Candace! I use an Exacto knife - new blades are extremely sharp, and they have a nice, fine point. Look for one with a cover on the end.

I usually use a rotary cutter.

as long as it works - I use whatever I pick up first.

My favorite seam ripper is a Wahl mans mustache trimmer. It unsews faster than I can sew it wrong! (AGAIN!!!)

I think mine is a Clover seam ripper with a brown handle and clear top. Love it! I used to work in a sweatshop where we took mens' shirt cuffs apart and shortened the sleeve length. This would take less than two minutes each (including reattaching) since we used the presser foot of the machine to hold the cuff taut and slip the seam ripper into the seam and rip the old stitches out towards you. This took practice (and nerve) but it sure worked. I realize that not all seam ripping could be done with this method. I can't remember what type of a seam ripper we used.

I probably won't be the only one asking, how do you use that that to rip seams apart?

This is what I use to cut apart my chain piecing. Great help for my arthritis.
