They also make UV reactive thread that glows under a black light, too.

patski 05-30-2011 01:34 PM

I did this for my grand son and he loves it. There is also solar thread, it changes color in the sun

Justok - what a neat idea! I went to Joanne's this afternoon and got Glow In The Dark thread ----they only had white and yellow, but the salesperson said they will have more variety closer to Halloween. I bought white and will use it to quilt a Halloween quilt for a grandchild - I might wait to quilt the other one with a different color. It does really glow!!!

polly13 05-30-2011 01:59 PM

Love your quilt! Have wanted to try the GID thread. Must do so now.

serenitybygrace 05-30-2011 03:34 PM

I am making a patriotic quilt with elongated stars. I have been wanting to sew around the stars with the glow in the dark thread. I am so glad to see your glow in the dark kitties. That gives me encouragement. I like all the other creative ideas mentioned here on the board also.

Taffkat 05-30-2011 04:04 PM

what a neat idea! LOVE IT!

dljennings 05-30-2011 04:15 PM

i got some of that accidently.. just looking for a pink to satin stitch around the hearts on a baby quilt...

so now all the hearts light up in the dark... it was such a cool surprise when i went into the sewing room one night!

wolfkitty 05-30-2011 04:23 PM

I just happened to talk to a lady about the fabric last week. I'm looking for glow in the dark fabric for ghost wall hanging pattern. The thread would be really cool too.

.............
I just looked at the QB links and see that the thread works great. I don't have to worry about the fabric. Thanks!

booklady 05-30-2011 06:10 PM

This sounds like fun! I'm going to find this thread and give it a try.

sewingmom3 05-30-2011 06:48 PM

Love the quilt pattern!

grammysews4u 05-30-2011 07:18 PM

Sure is pretty!

fabric whisperer 05-30-2011 07:30 PM

Love it ~ I'm glad I am not the only one who plays with stuff like this ;) have you played with the color-changing threads yet? they are fun, too ~ I am putting a few of those on my niece's quilt just to see how long it takes her to notice LOL ~ out of the sun, they appear white. Sun hits them, they change to green or orange or red or magenta or yellow or blue. I have the whole set, made DD a sweatshirt years ago. white on white. Until she went out onto the playground!!!

Dollysquiltingmom 05-30-2011 07:34 PM

Nice work on a complecated pattern.

Peggyinno 05-31-2011 06:26 AM

I love your quilt, even when it's not glowing

juliea9967 05-31-2011 07:02 AM

Wow! What a neat idea. I always do glow in the dark embroidery for sweatshirts and wallhanging for Halloween for my grand kids. Never thought of doing their quilts that way. I have to try it!
Thanks for sharing.

thrums 05-31-2011 10:32 AM

Hmmmm...I'm remembering the invisible thread practical joke on swimming trucks.

How about the glow in the dark thread with a special (but decent) message?

Mr. Studley

SueSew 05-31-2011 10:41 AM

Love the quilt you made
- I just bought that pattern from Keepsake also - but I am doing a beige/espresso/black/cream thing, very modern looking, maybe batiks. Glad to hear it's not too challenging! :)
Thanks for glow/dark idea too
Sue

Justok 05-31-2011 01:10 PM

Thanks everyone for the comments. I guess we don't have to be kids to like cool stuff.

twixbar 05-31-2011 01:33 PM

Beautiful quilt.

twixbar 05-31-2011 01:33 PM

Beautiful quilt.

jljack 05-31-2011 01:35 PM

I just gave my 5 year old grandson a quilt with glow in the dark thread outlines of dinosaurs and his name. He was soooo surprised!! He keeps taking the quilt into the darkest bathroom just to see it glow. My DD says she can hear him in there laughing. LOL

AnnT 05-31-2011 03:37 PM

I like the pattern, I imagine the glow in the dark thread is cool looking. May have to try that on my son's soon-to-be-started quilt.

Taughtby Grandma 05-31-2011 06:32 PM

Beautiful quilt! even in the daylight.

JACRN 05-31-2011 06:48 PM

Pretty colors.

gramajo 05-31-2011 08:00 PM

I made a Halloween table runner for a friend and used glow-in-the-dark thread to quilt spider webs on it. I really liked the way it looked.
My daughter made the Happy Hauntings wall hanging & used glow in the dark to quilt around the ghost.

sewgarden 06-01-2011 02:05 PM

what a pretty quilt. I love how people on this board try the unconventional and think outside the square
