I sent out 2 quilt tops to be quilted from a seller on ebay. Really cheap to boot. She had excellent feedback so figured I'd give it a chance.
Believe it or not in less than 8 days both where returned to me and beautifully done.
When my hubby seen them he said hey didn't you make them. Told him yes but sent them to someone else to quilt for me.

He couldn't understand why told him #1 I can't quilt worth S$%^. and besides that I don't have a Longarm machine to quilt with.

He asked what did you pay told him total for Both tops where quilted for $88 which even included postage. I used the money I made on my garage sale to send them.
well have probably have another 6 or so tops that still need quilted LOL!! He said hell, save the money.(didn't tell him it would take me a very long time to save enough to have the othrs all quilted) I'll get you the machine you need for your birthday next month.

Since I don't know what kind of machine it is You can take the credit card and pick one out yourself. The kids asked what you wanted so I'll just have them chip in for it and it will be from everyone.

oH man if I was only a horrible greedy woman I would have grabbed that card and did a road trip to find one LOL!!! instead I just started laughing.

He didn't think it was too fuuny till I told him what a Long arm costs.and that I'd need a room added on for it to fit in. I wish I would of had my camera to share a picture of the face on the man. Princeless!!! LOL!!

needless to say I won't be getting one for my birthday. He looked at me and said MAybe we can get togther and pay to have a couple more of your quilt tops quilted. turned around and walked away.
Gotta love him

As I was reading, I was thinking, Wow does he know what one of those costs, or maybe they are just the sort of folks who can afford to drop a few thousand for one.

He better be awful nice to you on your birthday! You could have really taken him on that one!

That is so funny. My MIL ties all her quilts and uses a very old machine they paid almost nothing for so he doesn't understand why I am saving to buy a machine that costs almost $1,000. I told him this one would allow me to machine quilt my own instead of paying someone to do it. I told him what I was quoted for the long arm and he said "be cheaper to buy one of those things" so I had him look up one from the site on the ad and told him to let me know when to expect the delivery--priceless. Good thing I didn't have him look at the one with the separate computer attachment thing or I would be having it delivered by now with the life insurance check I would have received--LOL,

Dianemarie 08-17-2011 09:10 PM

Sounds like my story of the Accu Quilt Cutter. I was looking at them at the International Quilt Show and hubby said go ahead and get one when the lady said three-forty nine. Him thinking $3.49 and I said three hundred and forty nine dollars not right before Christmas I need to think if I would really use it that much. He said I thought she said $3.49 I didn't understand the hundreds !! LOL

NanaCsews2 08-17-2011 09:12 PM

You are good, and he is so a keeper! It was the thought that counts. For one thing, he remembered and realized you made the quilts. Worthy of a favorite dinner.

Sienna's GiGi 08-17-2011 09:29 PM

My son's birthday is 9-11 and hubby is a keeper. Bless his heart for wanting to make you happy.

Candace 08-17-2011 09:30 PM

What a sweet man.

heather1949 08-17-2011 09:43 PM

I want to know where you found this quilter on Ebay in the U.S.A. I suppose ????

trif 08-17-2011 09:53 PM

Very sweet, that he was willing to pull together and get you a machine so you could quilt your own, is just wonderful. Sometimes it IS the thought that really counts!!!

nycbgirl 08-17-2011 10:05 PM

One year I went to a quilt show and I looked at the Alto cutting system and I wanted it REALLY BAD!!!! At that moment my husband called and said what are you doing? I told him what I was looking at and he said go ahead and buy it! REALLY???? Its alot of money!! When I told him how much he said "NO really how much is it!" I told him again, he paused and said very quietly "Well if you really want it" ...... I couldn't do that to him...I still don't have one..

Gramof6 08-17-2011 11:54 PM

You do have a very sweet & thoughtful DH. They have NO clue what our quilting or sewing stuff costs.LOL

SueDor 08-18-2011 02:20 AM

Well, it was that thought that counted.

kathyd 08-18-2011 03:02 AM

Give him credit for trying.

ywoodruff5 08-18-2011 03:11 AM

That scenario put a smile on my face - I can just see his shocked look now.....lol.

tmg 08-18-2011 03:18 AM

LilaKay 08-18-2011 03:51 AM

I got the same reaction from my husband when he asked me why I didn't I get an embroidery machine instead of my Janome 6600 and I told him how much more the embroidery machine would have cost!

BuzzinBumble 08-18-2011 03:56 AM

Very sweet and very funny story! I know it was just a typo, but you aren't Princeless with a hubby like that! (I say as i go back and correct 4 typos in this post.)

KwiltyKahy 08-18-2011 04:06 AM

He's a sweetie, hang on to him.

SharonTheriault 08-18-2011 04:11 AM

He sure is a nice husband, wanting to do something for his sweetie. He's a keeper.

Sharon-OH 08-18-2011 04:15 AM

I think my other half was on the same road as yours, he was asking questions - like how are they threaded, where is the bobbin. He thinks he knows what he talk about. Its funny and he has no ideal of cost. But I do have room. We gave our boys the living room furniture so that room is empty now. If I only had the money, I could have some real fun. LOL
