Was this a good deal?

I am relatively new to quilting (just started in August) so I don't know the answer to this. My husband went and picked up my sewing cabinet and the husband's owner offered to sell my husband fabric and thread and a thread holder for $160.00. I wasn't there so my husband just went and took the offer. Here are pictures of everything he got. Was it a good deal? Not that it will change anything if it isn't but I'm curious.

It looks like a good deal to me. That thread holder looks very sturdy and holds a lot of thread - a lot more than the one I got that cost $29.00 + tax and if you figure each piece of fabric is a minimum of $1.00 per quarter of a yard - it will add up so fast you will see he got a great deal.

Cyn 03-31-2013 07:02 PM

yes it is and the fact that yr hubby bought it for you makes it even better in my eyes! Give him a big hug and enjoy!

michelleoc 03-31-2013 07:43 PM

He did good!

NikkiLu 03-31-2013 07:47 PM

OMG - Yes, that is a great deal! Somewhere on the QB there is a picture of me holding a teeny little bag of batiks that I bought in Paducah that cost me $50.

mighty 03-31-2013 07:53 PM

Great deal!!!!!!

auntpiggylpn 03-31-2013 07:56 PM

Where's the picture of the sewing cabinet? If you paid $1 for each spool of thread that would be $124 just for the thread so you got GREAT deal!

nunnyJo 04-01-2013 03:47 AM

great deal

Dragonomine 04-01-2013 03:58 AM

It sure looks like a great deal to me!

abdconsultant 04-01-2013 04:00 AM

good deal!

GrandmaPeggy 04-01-2013 04:55 AM

I hope you told your DH, "Thank you!".

twinkie 04-02-2013 02:42 AM

There are over 100 spools of thread alone. If the price were a dollar a spool, that would be $100. Sure was a good deal

Kehoeta 04-02-2013 03:23 AM

Man, I wish my husband would keep his eye out for such a deal. After youi have been quilting for a while, you will really appreciate what you have there... YEAH for your hubby.

mhollifiel 04-02-2013 03:52 AM

If you don't kiss your DH for this great decision, the rest of us gals on the QB will line up to do it for you but, be warned, we'll charge a piece of your DH's stash (he DID buy it!) for taking care of your job. ENJOY!

SandySews 04-02-2013 04:02 AM

Looks like he did get a deal. Maybe you should take him with you to shop. I think some people just attract good deals. Hope you enjoy playing with all of this.

judylg 04-02-2013 04:07 AM

It was a fabulous deal, what a wonderful guy you have there. Enjoy your quilting and your hubbie, too!

MissBarbQuilts 04-02-2013 04:38 AM

Looks like a good deal to me.

carslo 04-02-2013 06:49 AM

I hope you gave him a big hug and kiss for scoring such a sweet deal for you :)

sulyle 04-02-2013 07:58 AM

The thread alone with the stand is a great deal. It's hard to tell what the fabric is like from the picture but fabric in my LQS is selling for $11-12 so it doesn't take much to add up to $160. What a great husband you have.

MargeD 04-02-2013 09:18 AM

With all the fabrics, the thread holder and thread your DH made a very good decision. Lucky you that he did this for you. He's a keeper.

CarolinaCottonCompany 04-02-2013 09:22 AM

Yes :)

Ok..first, yes. I think that is a good deal and ...
I Sooooo
agree...what a considerate DH! :) How precious!!

It looks like a great deal, especially the thread, although you may want to sort the fabrics and check if they are all 100% cotton. There may be different fabrics mixed in, depending on what kind of sewing she did.

Pat M. 04-02-2013 11:25 AM

Are you bragging or complaining? I think it is a wonderful husband you have. WOW!!!

That's exactly what I was thinking. And we all know thread costs more than a $1.

nativetexan 04-02-2013 12:57 PM

well if you had more than ten yards at $16.00 a yard, yes I would think you did well.

Iraxy 04-02-2013 02:42 PM

Just the fact that he purchased it makes it a great deal! DH's like that are hard to find. Big hug for the guy that said Yes, I'll take it! I hope that there was a happy dance in your kitchen when he brought it home.

ube quilting 04-02-2013 02:55 PM

What a wonderful DH you have. He did good!

From now on when you post Pics' of quilts made from this stash, you have to refer us back to this thread so we can see what beauty you created from it!
peace

MartiMorga 04-02-2013 03:03 PM

I agree - looks like a good deal to me, and a great loving husband. Looks like a win-win.

Luv Quilts and Cats 04-02-2013 03:27 PM

Looks like you did well! Enjoy using it all and have fun!

starshine 04-02-2013 04:01 PM

I have a question your statement -- [the husband's owner offered to sell]--did you mean the owner's husband?
That was a good amount of fabric and thread for the price, but if the fabric and thread didn't belong to him why was he the one selling it? Had she past away? If not, I am curious if she knew he was selling her fabric and thread.

Yes I meant owner's husband. The owner of the fabric passed away over a year ago and decided to sell her sewing material. My husband drove down there to by the desk and brought back the fabric and thread too.

As for hugging my husband and giving him a kiss, that is easy, he is incredible!!! He was just wondering if he got a good deal so I told him I would ask. :)
