It's good to hear someone other then myself having a positive experience at Joanns. I love the store, love the staff. They have always been kind and helpful to me.

Oh wow was that wonderful about the jelly roll cutting. What fun
|
I have not had a bad experience at the (fairly new) JoAnn's here. Everyone seems so anxious to please the customers and I always leave with a smile on my face and empty wallet.
|
How lucky for you! My Joann's is soooo careful about cutting fabric - you don't get one extra thread over what you want. I've had it happen where there is only 3 or 4 inches left on a both and they want to charge me for it. I have them cut it off. A waste for both of us.
|
I, also, prewash all my fabric. My 9th grade home ec teacher (c.1959) told us to always prewash before projects. That is one of the best lessons I learned all those years ago. She really made an impression on me, didn't she? :)

I am going to sneak this question in since we are talking about Joanns. I signed up for the flyer over a month ago and still haven't received it. Is that a usual thing? Should I register again when I finally get back to the store? Just wondered.

I'm not sure about the flyer. I just signed up for mine today. |
Glad you had such a good experience.
The Joanns I go to they just opened up a new super Joanns. Everyone who works there speaks to you now. Before at the old store they couldn't be bothered to speak. |
It's so good to hear a happy ending. My Joann's is getting better.
|
Patti, those two kids are adorable! Are they yours or grandkids? The little girl looks a lot my granddaughter Emily. So precious!!!!!
|
I have always received great service at our JoAnn's store.

I'm not sure about the flyer. I just signed up for mine today. Totally worth it. |
One of their employees is an elderly gentleman. He is so meticulous in his measuring and always makes sure the cut is straight, not distorting any pattern that might be involved, etc. AND he is very quick about it!!! He always makes every customer feel like they are the most special person in the store.
============================== Should this gentleman decide to move to my part of the country, I'll get out and help him hunt for a place to live, if he'll promise to go to work for our local Joann's. |
With the economy the way it is right now, maybe the stores are starting to realize that we will patronize those stores with the better/more friendly help. Wouldn't that be nice? I'd always rather spend my money where I feel like I am wanted!
|
I'm glad you had a good experience. I really can't complain about my Joann's expect that they do not give you even an 8th of an inch over what you ask for. Darn!!
|
My dtr and I went to the nearest JoAnn's (~15 miles) last weekend. They've renovated the store here also so things were a little hard to find but most times I don't mind wandering around a fabric store! I like that they had the number system to cut fabrics and when the number came up and the holder wasn't nearby, they made an announcement and waited a few minutes before going on to the next number. It helped that they had a couple of cutters. The one we got was very helpful and pleasant. It was a real pleasure to shop there again.
|
Just goes to show, that there are different kinds of clerks everywhere and let's give everyone and everyplace a second chance!

I'm not sure about the flyer. I just signed up for mine today. I have been to Sully often. Used to take our camper there for repairs. They always did such a good job for us. There are quite a few around me on the board. Would be nice to be able to meet everyone. Happy quilting. Have started the Happy Daisy quilt. It's going to take a while but it will be worth it. Am making fusible daisies and satin stitch on them. Gosh they are so pretty. Marge |
I always wash & dry ALL of my fabric before cutting anything out!! I have done this ever since a polyester fabric (that does not shrink - right?!) that I had made a pants suit out of it (back in the 70's). Well, low and behold - the first wash & drying -- it shrunk !!!! And not just a little!!! So, ever since then everything get washed and dried first. It it is wool - then I send it to the dry cleaners 1rst, before cutting. And, the rag quilts will turn out just fine if the fabric is washed and dried first too. That way they won't shrink up.
|
Wow! I love the Missouri quilt tutorials!!!! They are so helpful. Can't wait to do the pillowcases…think I will add sheets for the little granddaughters…princess design of course!
|
I usually have great luck with Joann's. I've only had two really bad experiences in all the years I have shopped in their stores in Virginia and Tennessee. Both of those bad experiences were in a store that is no lonber open.
|
I always have good experiences at our local JoAnn store. Of course it helps to know everyone that works there and call them by name. Everyone likes to hear their name. They have given me stuff on sale before it has gone on sale, given me an Accuquilt die for 40% off because the computer rang it up that way and they always ask me what I am making and how my little dog is doing. I use an electric wheelchair and if they see me coming they hold the door open for me and even let me bring my little dachshund in on my lap. There is a sign on the door that says NO Dogs. My only complaint is that the computer does not always give you the sale price so I always check before I leave to see if everything rang up right. They are all great! Sue

I just joined the blog. I like reading people's opinions and tips. I really like JoAnn's Fabrics! I am able to find any type of craft supplies I need. The employees are always nice, willing to help, very knowledgeable about crafting and sewing, and they know their merchandise and registers. I drive about 25 miles to the store in Fort Worth on Green Oaks, and their employees are the best and the store is always stocked and clean.

thats good to hear i have never had a problem with my local Joanns the manager is super nice there are a couple of young girls working there that dont make small talk or smile but as long as they dont screw up my fabric cuts we will get along just fine

This is what they did to me too. Only a couple inches but what a waste! She said they couldn't leave it but then gave me 50% off 2 others because it was the end of the bolt. Is there anything as common sense anymore?

I'm so glad to read this post. I don't drive and rarely get a chance to go shopping for fabric and notions. I've never been to an LQS. (Driver won't take me, LOL! Too far???) So, as a result, I only shop at JoAnn's. I love my JoAnn's! I've never had a problem with them. They have always been helpful and friendly. Sometimes they are really busy and I have to wait for help, but the wait is worth it. So glad to hear you had a positive experience.

The one thing that I did while I was waiting for my flier when I moved to Nashville was to join the email on the Joann's website. I got emails with the coupons, could print out multiple copies(couldn't use them all together but that's okay)and was able to continue to buy supplies. It took almost two months for my first flier to arrive which is a little long but okay. Now, I can double dip and use the flier coupons and email coupons when I go to Joann's which is usallly every two weeks or so. By the way, has anyone used the Joann website for ordering their supplies? How's the service there? Thanks.

I was at our Joanns last week & one of the fabrics I wanted had 3" left on the bolt.....I PAID for 3"!! Can you believe it?? If I would have been quick enough, I would have said "No, I don't want it" & let them be stuck with 3"!! Dumb!

My closest Joann's doesn't "throw in" even a fraction of an inch -- if the beginning cut edge is slightly crooked, they straighten it up and put the cut off strip in a box (for the employees? I wonder?)

Thank you for that great story, I also went to Joann's today, I have asked for help for batting, as I have lots of quilts to make, and no money. I recived a $25.00 gift card to Joann's from a quilt fairy, I was able to get a pack of batting, and a seam ripper. I am still needing more batting, If any one can help me out. but they were all very friendly, and when I asked the price of a roll of batting, the lady went right away and got the priece for me. as for the seam ripper, I am working on a wedding throw, and I started quilting it, and I decided I did not like the quilting, so now I have to pull it all out. I have learned that I better not make to many mistakes, because I just don't have the patients to pull them all out, of course my pain was at an all time high, because I drove, and walk around the store today. God bless.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
No longer Perplexed |
I have ordered from Joann's onliine but only when they have a lowered shipping price! Normally, it is high! But occasionally they have a 'special' & little or no shipping with a specified anount of order. Their site is not the easiest to travel around but if you stick to it, you can find some good bargains! I have even bought fabric & was pleased with it. :-D You can find rotary blades at a very low price every now & then! But I'm in the store often enough that I don't look on the website very much.
|
I wait until the batting is 50% off then I stock up on it! Even if I'm only going to use it for placemats or smaller items, it's worth it to get it on sale! :-D

Do you make the magic or sausage pillowcases? I have seen them called by both names. I have been making lots of them too, only to sell at craft shows. This season is my first try with selling them. Only 2 shows so far. One show sold some and the next show sold none! Waiting for the next show to see how they do. They are so fun to make. And the younger kids love to get their own pillowcases. My 4 yr. old grandaughter wants a pillowcase out every princess or fairy fabric she sees!!
|
Oh by the way...I am glad you had a good experience at JoAnn's. I have not always been really impressed with them. I even worked at JoAnn's for a short time. It was company policy to cut right on the mark. If it was a yard you cut exactly a yard, etc. I had worked in fabric stores before and we always allowed at least a thumb's width more for that little bit of shrinkage. So just to let everyone know when you shop at JoAnn's and you need a certain amount of fabric you may want to be safe and ask for 1/8 yard more. I still shop at JoAnn's but don't buy alot of fabric there, except for fleece!
