THE CABINET ALONE IS PROBABLY WORTH THE MONEY. HOPE IT IS STILL THERE IF YOU GO BACK. IT SOUNDS LIKE A STEAL. LUCKY YOU

Sounds like a great deal.

I bought a 301 Singer about 9 months ago and I truly love it. It is so strong. I paid twice that much and it did not have a cabinet. And I would pay it again....if I had room for it. But a 301 is really a great machine!!! They call it the big sister to the Featherweight.

- Yes it is a very good price. we deal in vintage machines. 301 is a great machine that does not need a cabinet so don't feel like you're bound to it.
Give it a very good cleaning everywhere and oiling, then run it to let the oil circulate. Look around on the intenet and get yourself a manual- some can downloaded for free.

more than $75 and no cabinet either. boy the fw's are really getting spendy. Have been trying to get one on
ebay, but no luck. I did get a Singer Sphinx tho took it into Minot to have it serviced by the BERNINA DEALER!!!!!!!
He has a greast selection of fabrics but are also quite high I thought. fat qtrs at 2.75 ea.

Thanks for all your input. I'm going to try and get back there today. I wasn't planning on going until the first of next week. Hopefully it will still be there. It had been there since the first of April.

301's are known for being the work horse. I have one and love it. I would say if it works it is worth it.

I love my 301. It came with a case but no cabinet. I paid about $100 in working order & good visual condition as well. I'd grab it.
They really are a nice machine, with some of the good points of both the FW 221 (FW & 301 are aluminum body with same 221 bobbins-side loading, easier to change when you have a quilt on top) & the 401's (both 301/401 are gear driven, slank shank for easier viewing). The 301's are special in that you can drop the feed dogs for FMQ, unlike either of the other two machines.
Singers 401 & later involved raising the throat plate to prevent the fabric coming in contact with the feed dogs, rather than lowering the feed dogs. While I'm sure many have used them this way, you can see that having that hump to go over introduces a rise & fall of the fabric that might also introduce puckers more than if it were to lay flat on the bed. JMHO
I love my FW & 401 as well.
