You can always ask the seller for the serial number, then go to the Singer site to look up the model http://www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html. Also, ask how much it weighs. The FWs only weigh 11 lbs. without the case. The 301s weigh around 15 lbs. The 66 and 99s weigh a ton (or at least it just feels that way).

The black Featherweights usually have the number 221 below the seal on the front. Once you've seen a white or tan FW, you won't ever mistake another machine for one of those.

Thats a great price, I would go for it. The 301 is the big sister to the Fearhterweight. I would love to have one. :)

Thanks everyone. I did go back about a week later and it was still there. I had been sick with a cold and didn't get back as soon as I wanted. It followed me home. They said it tested OK but when I tried it at home the thread kept balling up on the bottom. How they tested it I don't know. I took the bobbin out and thread was wrapped around the bobbin case. Once I got all the thread out and the lint from under the feed dog it sews beautifully. Now I just have to get some oil to give it a good oiling. I don't think people realized it was the big sister to the featherweight. I didn't the first time I looked at it then I noticed where the side flips up.

I'm glad the machine followed you home. Sounds like you will enjoy sewing with it.
