Goodwill find

Just stopped in to look around. I came home with 92 yards of Quilt Shop Quality material. The cost was $1.58 per yard. Happy Dance for me. There are 12 different cuts and they will all make great quilt backings. I have gotten small amounts before but this was the Mother lode.

sewbeadit 01-03-2012 01:50 PM

Wow! Good for you! Which city is that Goodwill in?

I never seem to luck out at the goodwill or salvation army in my area. I have to go out of state to find things.

luce321 01-03-2012 04:14 PM

Ditto here too. The only piece of fabric that I have found at Goodwill in the last year was one piece which I did not buy. They never seem to have fabric. Happy for you though.

ging10ging 01-03-2012 04:17 PM

My Goodwill doesn't have anything but I'm really happy for you. Congrats. Enjoy your find. Sue

lovequilter 01-03-2012 04:17 PM

I to have found good deals at thrift stores and garage sales. You just never know till you find them.

Glenda m 01-03-2012 07:41 PM

My closest GW is moving to a larger store. Will be setup on the 6th I think. Things have been a little lean at the old store lately! LOL

morelcabin 01-03-2012 07:42 PM

Here's a picture of what I got at Goodwill yesterday.

You were definitely in the right place at the right time. Congratulations.

jljquilter 01-05-2012 03:58 AM

It gets even better. I stopped after work yesterday and got 3 more cuts-almost 12 yards- for $15. In two days I have gotten fabric just a bit longer than a football field for an average of $1.57 a yard! Probably shouldn't but will stop again tonight. Just in case.

marymay 01-05-2012 04:00 AM

Good for you. I can never find anything at my store.

katsewnsew 01-05-2012 04:12 AM

WOW! Nice find! Yep, I would stop there again and again and again! Ours never has anything worth buying! Bummer

jeanneb52 01-05-2012 04:22 AM

my GW never has anything! They see me coming and hide the good stuff. Congrads on the haul

sewnbug 01-05-2012 05:18 AM

Great find. Our Goodwill never has fabric.

Natalie17 01-05-2012 05:19 AM

I buy cotton men's shirts and cut them up. Sometime I get them for .50 I also look for gored wool skirts for my felted woolen works.

glorcour 01-05-2012 05:25 AM

unbelievable! I have never even found a bag of itsy bitsy scraps in a thrift dtore. Lucky you

countrycousin 01-05-2012 07:20 AM

You can find good deals at thrift stores. If you go to one often and make friends with the people running the store you can ask them to notify you when fabric etc. comes in.

Mazda 01-05-2012 07:21 AM

I never find anything at the Goodwill or garage sales!!

gypsylady5 01-05-2012 07:35 AM

I wish your Goodwill would move to my town. I haven't found fabric there or at any other thrift store that amounted to anything. I'm jeolous. Enjoy making lots of quilts from all that great fabric.

imdelagarza62 01-05-2012 07:42 AM

Wow! What a wonderful find. Enjoy.

susie-susie-susie 01-05-2012 07:51 AM

I don't have a Good Will store near, but I do have a Salvation Army store nearby. I think some areas are good for fabric and sewing items and some aren't. The one near me never has anything like that. I needed shirting fabric and thought I would get some men's shirts and cut them up. They were $4.99 each. I decided that I would buy new fabric rather than spend that much on used shirts. My daughter goes there all the time and gets receiving blankets for her dog's cage for $.50 each. Then she just throws them away when the dog is done with them.

babyboomerquilter 01-05-2012 08:18 AM

Congrats! You have really hit the motherlode! Great find! I hit it once, but it was on Craigs list!

sherian 01-05-2012 09:15 AM

Wow, you do find a truly good deal.

quilt addict 01-05-2012 09:29 AM

Congratulations. I have never seen that much fabric at a thrift store. Great haul, what are you going to make?

onaemtnest 01-05-2012 09:34 AM

Whoo Hoo Congrat's on multipe finds at your store!!!!

Like so many others have stated in their particular areas I too never 'happen' in to a Goodwill, yard sale, estate sale or auction... that is just the right time to find great scores!

marytp 01-05-2012 09:53 AM

We have quite a few GW's, my friend & I hit all of them & never found any material! Good for you!!!!!!!!!!!

petlover 01-05-2012 11:34 AM

I am really happy for you!! My Goodwill doesn't seem to have very much fabric and most is double knit or something that you would not use in a quilt.

tlclifford47 01-05-2012 12:05 PM

That is great!

BarbsCA 01-05-2012 03:04 PM

Congrats on the fabric--good deal!

I understand that the workers get first pick of all that's donated

jljquilter 01-05-2012 05:02 PM

I have no idea what I'm going to make. For now it's sitting on the dinning roon table making me smile and do a happy dance when I see it. I have gotten small pieces before but never anything like this. Maybe some day I'll find a Featherweight. That would be tops.

sewnuts321 01-05-2012 05:46 PM

I found 30 ct linen for Hardanger embroidery at a local thrift store. $2.25 for the gallon zip bag of cuts. Quite a bargain considering retail is upwards of $28.00/yd. (It was labeled by the thrift store as painting canvas.)
