I dont know whats the matter with me. Ever since Christmas Ive only sewn for maybe a day. Its like I think about patterns in my mind but I dont "get up" and do anything. Anybody every have this happen.
Yes, I do but I haven't found an answer to it yet !
All the time!!! :) I started to make a list and Im starting with #1 and stickin to it. Good luck.
Hey, I just noticed you are from Gilbert. We are in Mesa! We lived in Gilbert for 10 years, downsized and ended up in Mesa. Are you going to the quilt show at the end of this month?? |
almost every day now since xmas. I think my getup and go got up and left... :-(
Thats exactly how I feel. I love to quilt but its like I have no energy, no motive to do anything. And I have stuff, lord knows I have stuff I can do, but nothing.
OF COURSE Im going to the quilt show. And I live in Mesa now to. We had to downsize....
I think it's because we all worked so hard to get things done before Christmas and were used to working under a LOT of pressure from every direction--the house, the sewing machine, the kitchen, the stores. Now the shopping, cooking, cleaning, sewing, etc., is all done and the pressure's gone. We've used ourselves up and need some time to re-fuel. The best thing I've found is to go on a retreat, take a class, go to a quilt show, or something like that to get yourself back in the mood. (I'm leaving for a weeks retreat early Friday morning).

No problem with the quilting - of course, I had an upcoming birthday to motivate me, but I have no energy for housekeeping or cooking. My dogs make sure I walk them. The house is starting to speak me to. Right now it says 'get these Christmas decorations out of here.'
Yeah We could meet at the quilt show. PM me if you want to get together. I guess to thats really why Im diffenetly going. I think walking amoung all that FABRIC will help me.
I am having the same problem, but in my case it is due to letting my day job stress get in the way. Quilting used to be my relaxation and mental getaway from stress, but lately my job has been so stressful that I am too mentally exhausted to do anything else. I was just telling myself I need to get a handle on this, if no other way, by committing to spend at least a few minutes each day quilting. I "long" to get back to it; just can't seem to find the energy.
Hey I just notice your living in Virginia. Where in VA. Im orginally form the Blue Ridge area, down by Mt Airy NC, you Mayberry..
I'm trying to get my sewing room in order. I find if I leave some pieces of fabric out, I get distracted from whatever project I've decided on and start thinking about what I want to do with the other fabrics laying around. Bottom line, nothing gets done!
This happens to me too. I just started to make quite a few wallhangings as gifts (small accomplishments), then hoping to sew on a quilt I started before Christmas. Enjoy the quilt show, hope you get your inspiration back. :-D :-D
I do the same thing. All my fabric has to be put away or my mind just goes off on its own with a million different things I want to do. What Im working on is the only thing I can have out at a time.
I too am in a slump! Ever since July I would race home and sew, I had so many things to get done by Christmas. Now, I just veg out when I get home from work. I have put some hand sewing by chair, but I haven't touched it. I know that it will only take an hour or so of sewing while watching TV, but I can't seem to get started. HELP!!
A friend and I are going to Road to California this weekend, I am so wishing that it will get me out of my slump. I get so mad at myself for wasting time. It makes me feel much better to find out that I am not alone. |
I think we all hit slumps -you will recover-I have been making quilts for over 30yrs and have had some slumps that lasted a yr or so-but I always come back to it.I am in a quilting slump now.I have more than a laundry basket full of tops to be quilted.I just keep making more, lol
Yes it happens to me too, but I learned the hard way if I don't feel like sewing, I don't because then I make mistakes. One day all of a sudden I can't wait to sew again. When I'm not in the mood I go to this site and satisfy my quilt addiction

Well Im going if you want to meet me there PM me . I have my daughter and GD, that MAY be going. So let me know if your interested.
I have been in a slump too- I think it has to do with the winter also - I notice that I kind of slow down in winter - I have a baby quilt on the LA - and only 1/2 done - the baby will be born in Feb. so I better get on it.
Yes. I do right now. I finally cut out a mini bow tuck this afternoon, but I've only sewn the front pocket together. At this rate it will make a nice Christmas gift for someone!
I do the same thing once or twice a year. I think I just burn out for awhile. Pretty soon though I am back at it. Guess I occasionally just need a "rest" from sewing.
Me too. I have a baby quilt project but having problems with the design and can't find the fabrics I want. Without the fabric I can't finalise the design so it's a vicious circle. The baby is already six months old!

I'm feeling the same thing. I just want to rest, and not do anything...I've been working on a bow tuck and a quilt top for 2 weeks...only sewing once in a while...I just don't have the energy or patience!
I also crochet. After the whirlwind of getting everything finished for Christmas, I'm not very motivated to quilt. So, I crochet for about a month, and look through my quilt magazines and patterns. I usually find one that I "just have to do right now".
Several times a day. Another on -line quilt site has a "Sew Daily Challenge". It is a challenge to yourself. A minimum of 15 mins. daily . It starts me up and I do more than the 15 minutes.
Well after reading all my replys its good to know Im not alone. Thank you everyone for making me feel better. I hope we all get out of the slump soon. Maybe when spring comes, that should do it, I hope. Sharon

I've had it happen several times, and I'm not sure what the answer is. I think that maybe looking at magazines or online fabric sites could get your interest going, maybe going through your stash, I just don't know. I do know for certain that in my case it finally passed and I was sewing again every day. I do remember during one of my slumps that I was fearful the mood would never end and I'd not want to quilt again, but I was very wrong.
I have been in a slump since after xmas and all I have been doing is organizing and doing other things. Very tired of looking at piles of snow, shoveling and the cold. This past weekend my hubby and I went to my favorite quilting store and found some very nice fabric that I am excited to sew. Just getting out and away from home helped to get me back on track.
Good husband!!
I'm in there with the rest of you, except I haven't done any significant quilting for almost a YEAR! Got on a roll with my other crafty pursuits (rubberstamping - made all my Christmas cards - crocheting, scrapbooking) and then just didn't get back to my quilting :-( I just made a small quilt to put on the back of an antique chair that used to be my grandmother's and then a little bed-type thing for my dd's guinea pigs (she LOVES her piggies! LOL). Now I'm looking at a UFO that's been sitting in my quilting room that I "ought" to finish and don't wanna! So I'm playing with my EQ and working up something else. Think I'll start something new.
Most I know have these spells when they just cannot stitch anything, when that happens to me I get out my graph paper and pencil and sketch ideas. In a few weeks or a month the mood passes and I'm back stitching again.
