Gramma gets the hint
My grandsons, ages 4 and 6 have loved their quilts to death. The baby quilts I made them are in rags. So I have been collecting fabrics to make them I spy quilts, but I only told them that one day I will get some new ones made for them. Yesterday as I was making supper they were awfully quiet, so I went to see what kinda trouble that meant. They were in my quilt room, had my books all over the floor, looking through them. My first thought was, DON'T TOUCH MY BOOKS! But I really asked what they were doing? "Well gramma we are just looking to show you which blankie we want you to make."
Gotta love them! I think I better get at it! |
That's so cool .. that they would look through the books for what they wanted you to make them. You can be sure the quilts yo make them will be soo loved.
Yes, you'd better get their I Spy quilts done before they pick out a Double Wedding Ring or something else complex! They will love I Spy quilts!
I Spy time! I bet they'd Love to help choose and lay out the fabrics- what a great Forever Memory! Be sure to take lots of pics of them working. I sometimes sew with children, and when young they especially like to use the foot pedal while I guide the fabric. Have Fun.

love this story .... wonderful boys! looking forward to seeing their quilts.
How sweet that they love your quilts so much. my DGD is 20 mos. She has loved Yo Gabba Gabba from the time she was old enough ton watch tv. When my Keepsake Quilting came last week they had the Yo Gabba fabric, she saw it and took my book and was telling me the names of all the friends on it. I had ordered it as soon as I saw it and was so happy I did.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... what a precious moment to cherish! Thanks for sharing.
what cool little boys!
Very cute! Maybe get them interested in making them. They're old enough to start sewing or helping pick fabrics.
what a precious story
Awwwwwwww that just makes your heart melt and your anxiety shoot threw the roof. Next time they will be pulling fabric out that they like for a quilt for you to make.
Thats what Grandma's are for! What a precious memory for you. Wish you could have gotten a picture.

My 6year old GGS walked into my shop last night, turned around and came back out and announced to me and his Mom and Daddy that his next quilt was going to be a sports quilt. I wondered what prompted that, so after they left, I went into the shop....there, just at the right height, was a big stack of football, soccer and general sports figures...so now, I know! Guess it's time to get busy, huh!

How cute. Better get started sewing.

How cute, sounds like you have to little sweethearts.
Hope to see you at lunch

If you're going to do the I Spy, how about taking the little guys shopping and let them each pick out a few fat quarters that they like. Always room for another cute piece.
Goes to show you that they know more of what is going on around them than you think!
I agree.. with those that think the boys should help.. You might consder taking them to the fabric store, or on line to see what fabrics they might like.. I made an eye spy quilt for my nephew before they had a name for it..

I finally got my granddaughter's elephant quilt finished for Christmas. I need to figure out how to put pictures on this board.
How wonderful. My heart warmed reading your post. Oh my gosh, I would have dropped whatever I was doing and bundled those two up into a big old hug and sit them down to explore patterns. What sweeties.

My GD is 3 1/2 so they changed her bed to a twin and just put a red blanket on it. This week I pieced a quilt with the right colors for her room and will quilt it next week. She wanted to know why I didn't come there to make her quilt.

You HAVE to make the quilts and soon! What darlings!

how cute are they? Aren't you glad you stifled your first response?
That is precious. Good for them. Now, you got your work cut out for you!
:P:, what a precious memory you have there. It is so nice to know that they appreciate your quilts.
Love it! LOL
Omgoodness. This is so cute. I am so glad that you let them look at the blocks and how cute that they are already designing the quilt they want you to make.

I am making an I Spy quilt and taking it to Australia for my grandkids there. My daughter has down comforters on the children's beds and tells me not to make them any blankets because they do not need them. But I am making this I spy quilt that is only going to be a twin bed size or lap size so that it can stay in the living room and the children can cuddle with it when they watch TV, when they don't feel well and they can use it to build tents, etc. I made my daughter a wedding ring quilt when they got married and she is now finally using it on her bed. So maybe her views will change on the quilts. I hope so.

Awwwww...that's precious. I have a 7 year old grandson who absolutely LOVES the quilt I made for him at Christmas 2 years ago. He would come out to my house and look all through my fabrics talking about all the patterns on the novelty ones. I kept telling him I was making him something special. So, I searched for fabric that showed all the things he had loved so far. He was infatuated with stars before he could even talk, loved coins, loved art, sports, etc. Then I took Moda Marbles of all primary and secondary colors, cut out a six inch square of the background color, then appliqued a smaller piece of each of the novelty fabrics. Every square is a different color. At Christmas when he opened it, he squealed, "My Quilt!!!" He was so excited and I was thrilled almost to tears that he reacted so. I know your babies are going to love anything you make for them!! How precious.
I can also share that every time I take my quilts and quilting things to school for talks about quilting, the boys are the ones who are always the most interested. I usually take a Featherweight and one of the little toy Singer sewing machines too. Those boys always tell me they're going to learn how to quilt someday. |
That is one of the sweetest things i have heard, how precious, i have four grandsons, 12yrs, 7yrs, (these two are brothers) and then from my son i have a 3yr and a 17mos. old, and these two r brothers, i take care of them everyday while the parents work. The 3yr comes up with some of the sweetest things and he talks all day, i am worn out when i go home. But they are soooo very precious to me.

You have a pair of keepers. How charming and wise of them the understand the need to give you a few "hints". And what beautiful geometry and colors they will have been absorbing in the process of searching through you books while the find their favorite! (Sorry, that last sentence was the teacher and artist coming out in me.) Love those boys and give them a BIG hug for being just so smart.
