Gratitude-Why do you appreciate Quilting Board?

They say that gratitude precedes prosperity and without prosperity, the size of my stash suffers!!
I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you here on this board for the free sharing of information on products and techniques and sources. I've received the equivalent of a PhD by reading the posts.

For days now, I've been searching on You Tube for a quilt video I wanted to make. I lost it after a late Saturday night's browsing and had to do a system restore on my computer, which took out my history. This morning, in reading a new post, I went to one of the suggested links and found the thread that took me to the lost video. Thank you!!

I got to thinking about all the good things I've gotten from this board and so far, my favorites include: pinmoors, Triangulation software (oh the joy!), the June Tailor ruler (make my own jelly rolls), Bailey's longarm quilting machines (in the dream category.)

What have you found that has made your life, as a quilter sooo much better by finding it on this board?

ptquilts 09-23-2012 05:20 AM

I appreciate that the QB is one of the last truly kind, civil places on the internet. So many nice people here and hardly any grumps!!

quiltingweb 09-23-2012 05:25 AM

Inspiration, information. I love all the wonderful ideas and brilliant minds here. I have learned so much about sewing machines here. Before, I just used them and even got rid of one when it wasn't working the way I wanted it to. Now, I adopt these abandoned machines, clean them up and get amazing satisfaction of taking something that was neglected and unused and turning it into a useful, even beautiful machine.

erstan947 09-23-2012 05:36 AM

The inspiration I get here is wonderful. Thanks everyone for the beautiful work you share and the encouragement:)

QuiltnNan 09-23-2012 05:40 AM

i love the wealth of information and the inspiration from other quilters. i don't know of another place where so much is available in one spot.

Scraps 09-23-2012 05:42 AM

What a nice thread! Being a part of this board is like going to many classes!! What a wonderful group to be part of!!

lauriejo 09-23-2012 05:47 AM

Thank you for starting this thread. I have learned so many things on this board that I couldn't list them all. But, for me, the most important (and wonderful) thing I have found is the generosity. It is so nice to visit a place where people are always willing to help and share. Whether it be information, hugs, prayers, pats on the back, or even sharing of real items it soothes my soul and makes my heart smile.

GailG 09-23-2012 05:50 AM

Besides the wealth of information, tips, encouragement, inspiration, and fellowship, I have become friends with several members....one in a nearby town. The moderators are to be commended on how generous they are with their time and help. Everyone seems to be so willing to share their knowledge and experience. The day I discovered the QuiltingBoard was one of the best days of my life.

Quiltngolfer 09-23-2012 05:50 AM

The inspiration I get from seeing all the beautiful projects is my favorite. I can't wait every morning to get my coffee made and sit down to read the Quilt Board. I have a long list of quilts I want to make from seeing yours on here. I also get inspiration to get UFO's finished from you. Thanks to all of you for your sharing of information and kindness. This is a great community!

kaysue4 09-23-2012 05:55 AM

I am so thankful for this Board because I am just on my first quilt and because of everything I am learning on here, it is making it seem so easy.
People cannot believe that this is my first quilt.
Thanks to all of you and the ones that started this Board.

damaquilts 09-23-2012 06:13 AM

I love that I can come read about what everyone else is doing and get help/encouragement when I need it .. I rarely can get out of the house and I have no one to talk quilts with so this is my happy place to go. :)

I feel like all of the members are friends. Any time there is a problem, many members answer. I love reading everyone's posts, and usually start my day by reading the QB. Love all you guys.

I do not have any friends that quilt... and my closest family is 550 miles away. The board gives me a community of quilters that I would not have without it.

carla m 09-23-2012 06:50 AM

im thankful for this board because i learn so much here. when i started reading this board i would never make anything without a pattern and now its rare for me to even use a pattern. i read stuff here and come up with my own ideas and layouts and if something doesnt work i just try something different. i get so much encouragement from people here and theres so much knowledge here theres no reason to get frustrated just ask and someone will tell you how to make it work. now if i could just finish all those ufo's lol. oh well no one is perfect right ??

I love the sharing and caring also. Especially the inspiration by looking at the beautiful works of others whether it's a quilting project or a sewing project.

Thank you!

Reasons why I enjoy the board -
I love seeing so many new quilt designs, tools, and techniques.
It is wonderful to see so many people starting their post by saying "I'm a new quilter."
I've met some wonderful people in real life because they were members of the board.
I've been alerted to fabulous sales.
I feel happy when I can occasionally answer a question.
I started my pattern business because of encouragement on the board.

alwayslearning 09-23-2012 07:13 AM

In a nutshell: generosity.

Sylvie45 09-23-2012 07:13 AM

It has become my best friend, (better), I get my coffee in the morning and read the QB. The info, the pictures, the sharing and generosity is the best. Whether I am at home or away I never miss visiting with all of you.

Barbshobbies 09-23-2012 07:33 AM

I have friends, they don`t quilt, and I want to learn. This is the place!! I love all the different slants on subjects, they are so cute some times. Some times I wish I could meet every one of you, I know we would have some thing in common. Subjects range from ...my beloved animals...to my beloved gardens, to many family interests. And then quilting. Some times there are sad things (I wish I could help you) and then funny things we all live with. How can anyone ask for anything more?

For me, Lauriejo's post says it all.

ArtsyOne 09-23-2012 07:48 AM

It is great to be able to post a photo of a quilt in progress and get opinions from you all, and it is rewarding to provide information to new quilters. Sometimes I've received advice that has taken a quilt in an entirely new direction. I love seeing photos of your quilts with dogs and children - they bring a smile to my face.

Continuing friendship with several dear members is my most thankful treasure!!
Eye candy every day when I see all the pictures of quilts made here.
Traveling the world from my chair at home with those who share their homes and world with us.
Tips, tricks, and tutorials freely shared.
The acceptance and lack of complaint/criticism/condemnation from members on this forum, that's the best!

You are all such a wonderful group of people who go out of your way to help those who are looking for help in learning our craft. You are there to give support to those who are having problems in their lives. You bring beauty by sharing your art and laughter by sharing your humor. It is a wonderful place to be and I am so happy I found it. Thank you all for being here and thank all of you who work so hard to bring it to us and keep it a good place to be,

annthreecats 09-23-2012 08:59 AM

I love this board because I know without all the things I have learned about machine piecing and quilting I would never have made any quilts. Now I am venturing into raw edge applique and freehand drawing my own items for applique. I constantly have new ideas for projects and it's all because when I come you folks open my eyes to all the possibilities. Thank you QB and everyone who shares on this board.

Amen to that!!!

Knitette 09-23-2012 09:49 AM

For me, this board has been a source of inspiration, education, encouragement, knowledge, reassurance, laughter and friendship. Every day I learn something new, see a project I'd like to do one day or find a link to a fabulous website. The amount I have learned in the past couple of months has been incredible.
I am so grateful to you all.

sewplease 09-23-2012 10:01 AM

I am so grateful for the inspiration, answers to questions, and generosity of spirit I find here. Like a couple of others have said, I don't have any friends who quilt and my relatives live far away. On this board I can share the excitement of a new sewing machine and commiserate when we run out of a particular fabric. Now, I'm about to do some cyber-quilting today and post a question. :-)

rush88888 09-23-2012 10:04 AM

i like this board because there are people who have some of the same problems i have and others on the board answer. without the exchange of information, there would only be pretty pictures!

I'm thinking that many of us feel this way...I didn't want to join a guild because I didn't want to be obligated to do anything...I'm still decompressing from several years at a corporate job (translation-in a body cast!) and this Board is where I come to find friendship, information and good ideas. I became a quilter because of the generosity I saw and that generosity continues on this board.

nyelphaba 09-23-2012 10:37 AM

I have learned so much about quilting, products, methods, and other websites to go to. However, for me the QB is an escape I can go to throughout the day and think about something I really enjoy. I am home everyday, after my husband and son leave, with my 91 year old Dad. This is my job now. He is handicapped and more health issues are cropping up. So, the QB helps keep me sane. Thanks. I feel I am interacting with other people, because I cannot go out too much to enjoy my quilting.

ckcowl 09-23-2012 10:52 AM

i appreciate this board for so many reasons- the friendships, the encouragement, advice, help, inspiration, friendships, laughter, group activities, friendships, sharing, motivation...you get the idea :)

xsquilter 09-23-2012 10:58 AM

I appreciate so much about this board & am so thankful I found it! I don't think I could add anything to all the wonderful things previously said. A huge thank you to the moderators, et al, who keep this running pleasantly smooth!

I so appreciate this board and the kind members here. I like the pictures of finished quilts, or tops as they provide constant inspiration without my having to drive anywhere. So many of you have helped with ideas. I've learned by asking questions and reading answer to others' questions.

I'm just grateful there is a place like this where people from literally all around the world can get help and advice from each other. We can be encouraged to learn as quickly or as slowly as we feel comfortable.

I've been challenged to keep improving by your pictures. I've picked up skills that I didn't even know existed before I joined the quilt board such as paper piecing. I like the fact that people from all over contribute and that it isn't just for beginners or advanced/experienced quilters.

Thanks to all who run this board and keep it going smoothly. It is a joy to come here and have it be free of politics and in general, it is a positive place to be!

Swalters12 09-23-2012 12:35 PM

I love the quick suggestions I receive every time I post a question. It really helps a new quilter like me :)

CarolinePaj 09-23-2012 12:36 PM

I appreciate this board for all of the above! I think that this is one of the best places on earth to be...... I hate a day passing without being able to log on!

Hugs

I have been only been quilting since July 2010 & found this board in Sept 2010. I am thankful for this board because of all the generous help & idea sharing, the comments on products to make things easier, the wonderful friendships I have come into, the inspiration & all the wonderful people on this board from moderators to new quilters who post & answer questions some of us never thought to ask! Thank you all!!

Neesie 09-23-2012 01:00 PM

Oh, my goodness! There are so many reasons, I love this board. Above all, I'm thankful for all of the wonderful people, here! This board has made my quilting experience SO much more enjoyable. Because of this board, I now baste with Elmer's School Glue, which means I actually FINISH my quilts! I've been introduced to Sharon Schamber's binding method, which took away my dread of binding . . . and made it almost fun. There are so many beautiful quilts and other projects, being shown here, one can't help but be inspired!

I love this place. I visit daily. What makes it special? The wonderful members who share their generosity, knowledge, inspiration and kindness. Without you all, I would not be the quilter I am today.

saperry 09-23-2012 06:09 PM

I love the QB because even though we are from all over the world and we don't always agree or see things the same way, we still care enough to share our opinions, experience, kindness and generosity. All levels of quilters can come together and share, learn and inspire. Everyone on this board is so kind and generous and no one is snobbish or uppity. We are just as willing to help a new quilter as we are in giving opinions or rather "options" to a more experienced quilter. We are so blessed to have a place to come and share our loves whether it be family, quilting or fur babies. God bless each and every one and especially the moderators that make all of this possible.
