I made this pin cushion for my DD for her birthday. I was lucky to find a scrap fabric in my stash that coordinated with the design. When I gave it to my DD she recognized the fabric. She had made a sundress for my grand daughter out of it. The pin cushion now has two memories attached to it.
FYI, the yellow fabric as the back drop was purchased from my local thrift store; 15 yards for $7.00. Gravy boat pincusion |

I have my grandmother's good dishes. They are probably 80+ years by now. Now some of you are going to fall of your chair in shock but I think I will go in there and find a gravy boat or creamer, sugar bowl--something and make a pincushion out of a couple and give one to my sister for her birthday and maybe the 2 granddaughters. Even a cup and saucer would be pretty. Why would I do that I am sure you are asking. Well I haven't used them in years, too much work--can't be put into dishwasher. Not hand washing dishes for 15 people. My daugher would never be bothered with using them so when I am gone they will probably go to goodwill or maybe they would sell them to an antique shop. Why not do something that others will enjoy? I just thought I also have some single cup teapots that were my gr aunts (grandma's sister) that might make a cute one too. My goodness you sure have my wheels turning. Not good when I am ready to go to bed. LOL

I love your pin cushion! I'm always looking for special things to make pin cushions out of. I've used tea cups, and I recently discovered that egg cups make really fun little ones - perfect to keep your needles in. Thanks for sharing! It's beautiful!

Lovely idea. And Sunflower126, I say use the good dishes! We only live once enjoy what you have.
Thanks for sharing. |
Cute cute cute!!!

Mines a teacup!
|
Beautiful. Love those old dishes.
|
I would use those dishes every day. I learned a long time ago not to "save" stuff. It is there to enjoy. At Christmas I used to give the grand kids my stemmed wine glasses to drink out of and they were thrilled. My kids were appalled. Suppose they broke one?? Oh well!! they enjoyed them and not one ever broke one. Easier to hang on to with little fingers. LOL

Great idea!! Lovely!!

Great idea! I was thinking of doing a tile trivet
with the plates. I use DH grandma's dishes every day. This would be a great way to save a few pieces. Then I can switch to the other grandma's dishes till I run out of them too. We've had them better than 20 years, time to use them. |
Okay ladies how about a making pin cushion lesson?
