On the subject of mats ,do those things work that you rub on the mat to smooth it out, I have the grn fiskars and I am happy with it, But its getting worn, I agree don't get a rigid one, self healing is the way to go

I got a nice set at Havel, the one on the bottom. It is really nice and thick, and pretty! They sent me a coupon encouraging me to share, type in SEVEN code for $7 discount, and I think I got free shipping with first order too, a great deal! The whole set for less than it costs for a cutter usually.

I got one I use on my cheap white mat (the counter size one). It does help remove threads but does NOT cure cuts.

Use a round honing stone on the mat. The stone will have two sides, use the smoothing side. You can find them at hardware or automotive stores. I like the round size the best for easier handling.

Just got one for xmas, no problems at all, the price is right and the color is easier on my old eyes.

Don't like mine - only use my green Olfa
