Great fabric shopping week!
This is our fifth year doing this. My dear sister-in-law and a great friend of ours from back in our school days come to Ohio for a week. They arrived this year on Monday and left to go back to New York today. We had 5 days of shopping at a total of 27 quilt shops in the state of Ohio. One day was spent in the Columbus area shops, one day in the Amish area shops, one day in the Akron area shops, one day in the Dayton to Cincinnati area shops, and one day in southeast Ohio, which included an afternoon at the fabulous art quilt show in Athens, Oh. Every night we come back to my house in the central part of the state and start out again early the next morning.
We stocked up on lots of fabric for the upcoming year. This is just about the only time all year I purchase any fabric, unless I find I need something extra for a project. We talk and talk and talk. We usually find a play, concert, a movie during the evenings. Every night when we come home, we sit around my living room floor and ooooh and aaaah over all the fabric and patterns we bought. Sometimes we find a couple pieces of fabric that we thought looked great together in the store, but do not really go together once we look at them again. That is OK! One piece will go in out stash, and we will look again the next day for some piece of fabric that is THE perfect color, or scale, or pattern. What a great week this is every year for us! We are all exhausted and broke by the end of the week, but already SO looking forward to next year's "fabric finding frenzy"!! |
Sound like you all had fun!! How fabulous that everyone enjoys themselves. Photos of favorite finds might be nice that we could all 'pet' the photo! Or get ideas for quilts.
Any pictures of your purchases? Or purchasers?

Please pictures of your purchases and patterns.

Wow! Sounds like heaven. A picture chronicle of the yearly shop hop would be a chronicle of trends. What fun.

This first fabric was one of my favorites I found this week. I have no idea what I am going to do with it, but it is sure to make some quilt fabulous! |

This next fabric each one of us bought a yard of. It is to be our challenge fabric this year. We will each use it as a focus fabric in something, and bring it back next year to show and tell.

I am in akron area. What shops did you visit? Just wondering if I am missing some of your finds!
Laurel |
Laurel, our Akron area list included Country Fabrics in Shiloh, north of Mansfield, Suzie Homemaker Fabrics in Ashland, the Little Red Quilt House in Medina, the Fabric Peddler in Wadsworth, Ohio Star Quilts in Akron. We also had on our list, but did not have time to get to: Sew Deja Vu in Stow, and Angelics Quilter's Haven in Canton.
Do you know of any others not on our list? I can add them for next year! |

What a great way to spend a week.

You bought some beautiful fabrics .... some definite challenges there. Congratulations to your group!
Several years ago I used to visit relatives who lived outside Cincinnati and we would go to Waynesville to eat at the Dutchman Restaurant. I talked them into making a detour at a quilt shop there that I thought was super but that was the days before I really got into quilting. I know the Dutchman is gone but I've been wondering if the quilt shop is still open. Someday I would like to revisit those areas. |
MaryMo, the quilt shop in Waynesville, Fabric Shack, is one of our favorites! Yes, it is still there, and a beautiful shop!
You just enjoyed my dream week. How nice to have family and friends that enjoy quilting.
The Spiders Web Fabric and uilt Shop in Mogadore in a nice shop to. She has an online shop too.
You chose some great fabrics! Laurel |
Sounds like a wonderful time!
Do you have room for one more next time? (LOL) Sounds like my kind of break.
Thanks for sharing pictures. Some very novel and beautiful fabrics, I find myself trying to figure out how I would use them. Please show us your projects as you go along.
Oh what fun!
Sounds like so much fun! I go out with a couple of friends to explore...it is the best! We all buy stuff we really don't need but we really have a blast!
Sounds like fun I want to have! I'm jealous:)
sounds like a nice bonding week... and a great way to get out and enjoy the roads of Ohio. I would love to visit some of the Amish shops one day... are they any different than your regular LQS?
Sounds like a quilt retreat in disguise! It had to be heavenly!
OH! Oh! Oh! What fun. Really good idea.
I am now 72 but do not know how to add to siggy. |
you must be exhausted - happy but exhausted!
Where in Central Ohio do you live? I live just east of Circleville!! I loved the pumpkin fabric!
I love your fabrics - please post pictures of your finished projects . Your stores carry completely different lines than what is carried in my part of the country. Always fun to see what others have to offer.
Sounds like a great way to bond with your SIL and your friend, plus getting the opportunity to visit a lot of quilt shops and spend time together. Sounds like a lot of fun.
you forgot the northwest part of the state. We have some great shops up here also
