I love Command Strips but had not thought about using the refill strip to mark 1/4 seam! I have a ton of the extra ones that came with the hooks. I didn't even think about using the Command Strips to hold my rulers on the wall! I did use them to mount a "shoe caddy with plastic pockets" on the back of the closet door.

Off to print some coupons! BTW, Dollar General does have some of the smaller sets.

mjhaess 09-14-2012 06:36 AM

Love your idea...I will be trying that...Thanks for sharing..

PenniF 09-14-2012 06:38 AM

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU BellaBoo.....i have been cutting up painter's tape rolls into "chunks" for years to use as the 1/4" guide -but this is brilliant ---- can't wait to try it (if/when i ever get my machine back from the fixit shop:()

QandE2010 09-14-2012 06:39 AM

I'm on my way to get me some command strips. I, too, have a 1/4" foot with guide, but this would really help keep the seam straight. Thanks for sharing.

skjack 09-14-2012 06:46 AM

you could put it on then slice it where the bobbin cover is I have done that with other methods of marking ex painters tape. then can replace bobbin without taking it off.

Thanks for the link to the coupons. This is a great hint - I have been using layers of masking tape but hate the residue it leaves.

nannyrick 09-14-2012 08:31 AM

Thanks for the great tip. Will definately try this.

majormom 09-14-2012 09:17 AM

After seeing this great tip, I went to my machine to sew and noticed that if I used the Command strip, it would go over about 1/2 of one of the set of 'teeth' on my machine ( a Singer) Does anyone think this would be detrimental to my using the Command Strip?

jclinganrey 09-14-2012 09:35 AM

Great idea! As for your long trailing threads, you might want to consider Bonnie Hunter's whole idea of leaders and enders. It's a much better use of your thread, your sewing area will be much less messy AND you're making parts of other quilt projects at the same time. Great time management.

That was my thought too but I think I'll try cutting it apart where the cover meets the machine so that when I slide the cover off, it will take that part off with it. Worth a try?

ellifour 09-14-2012 09:56 AM

Great idea! I don't like the quarter inch foot. I will get some for my feather weight

Bonnie cuts out the part of the strip that goes over the feed dogs.

carolynjo 09-14-2012 11:16 AM

A great tip!

kakels 09-14-2012 11:30 AM

Cool idea, thanks for sharing! And thanks for the coupons!

Gladys 09-14-2012 11:58 AM

I think I've got some command strips around here somewhere. I'll have to try this. Thanks!

ms sewer 09-14-2012 12:02 PM

I use the blue painters tape. It leaves no residue and it easy to see no matter the color of the fabric

Debbie C 09-14-2012 12:42 PM

Thank you for a terrific idea - going to get my spares out right now!!

BellaBoo 09-14-2012 12:51 PM

I have removed mine four times so far and they stick right back. No residue at all. The whole strip doesn't have to be pressed down just the top end, it isn't going anywhere.

Here is what I used: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/3m-...653634-product

Jingle 09-14-2012 01:22 PM

I will give this a try. I use painter's tape to mark the lines on my rulers so I can cut all my strips the same size.

pinkberrykay 09-14-2012 01:25 PM

Thank you, Thank you so much for this tip!!!

I have the 1/4 food with metal side guide but I like this much better. I can make the guide as long as I need, not just length of the foot. But I found an extra plus to this. If you can see the thread behind my needle the strip holds the thread out of my way after I cut it. I tend to get the thread in my way when I'm starting a new seam.

I am sure going to try this because nothing else including the quilting foot works all that well for me. Topstitch

Dogwood Quilter 09-14-2012 02:16 PM

I forgot about Bonnie's tip and had even bought the command strips. Now to remember to try it. Thanks for the reminder BellaBoo.

Wonderful tip!! Thank you!

mimiknoxtaylor 09-15-2012 02:46 AM

great tip! thanks, will have to try this. I have a couple of different 1/4" feet but usually just mark with painters tape. this is much better

jmabby 09-15-2012 03:28 AM

Love this idea, my rulers keep tipping over when I lean them over against the wall.....

What a great tip, thanks for sharing!

carolaug 09-15-2012 05:10 AM

I also love this idea...I really wanted to put them on my wall but did not want a peg board or nails this is perfect!

carolaug 09-15-2012 05:12 AM

thinking my rotary cutter too...and a few other things.

bigsister63 09-15-2012 05:32 AM

I no longer use my 1/4" foot. I move my needle over to make 1/4" seam and use my regulare sewing foot. This foot is wider and feeds fabric easier/smoother. You could use this strip as quide if you do not want/or can't move needleo

calicojoan 09-15-2012 05:40 AM

I have found that if you use double stick foam tape, it works well too. Having the thickness of the foam makes for a great "wall" for the fabric to fun next too. It's very cheap and comes off without leaving any sticky. Command strips hadn't crossed my mind yet! Good to know.

Brandi 09-15-2012 08:31 AM

What are commpany strips?

This is the problem I have with painter's tape. I finally marked a line on my machine with permanent marker....but guess what, it came up with a little fingernail polish remover on cotton and didn't mar the surface. I don't want something the fabric butts up against, such as sticky note pads, but just a guide line.

meadows102 09-15-2012 09:28 AM

Thanks for the tip. I have a 1/4 inch foot but I still have trouble getting my seam exactly right.

wordpaintervs 09-15-2012 02:15 PM

in desperation, don't forget that the lined (or ruled) 'index cards' are exactly 1/4 inch. Use them to mark your seams. Inexpensie solutions

kimg 09-15-2012 05:29 PM

I tried this today, and I love it....works great!! Thanks for sharing.

kimg 09-15-2012 05:31 PM

The command strip provides a guide that goes way beyond what the foot will do. I am using both.

echoemb 09-17-2012 08:15 AM

I had been using a magnetic strip that was OK. I set up the commando strips last night and I love it. With all the tips I have picked up off this list over the last year, my sewing has improved 100%.

both sides of the strip are stickey. How do you keep the top part from being stickey
or should it be stickey? Hope this is not a real dumb question.

Janis 09-17-2012 11:11 PM

I bought some of the shorter replacement strips and got 20 in the package, I think. I am thinking of putting one of them on the feed dog cover plate and putting the other one butting up against it on the cover plate of my bobbin. That way I don't have to cut them. I can also but them up to each other end to end to make thee line longer on other machines. Or at least this is what I was thinking when I bought them. I was planning on leaving the side that sticks to the holder with the paper on it. Which side did you actually adhere to the machine, anyway?

BellaBoo 09-18-2012 08:33 AM

I use the picture hanging refills that have the paper pull off on the back, one side is sticky one side is pebbled.
