Am I the only person who finds the new cellophane packaging on purchased items (like DVD's) a pain to open?! The other day I was having a fight with the new DVD and it was winning. I looked up and lo and behold on my counter, ready to be thrown away, was a seam ripper I did not like. To make a long story short, the seam ripper worked like a dream and has found a new home instead of being discarded. :-D

Used one this morning to open an old package of quilting binding! Thx for the tip!

Great tip! I saw on a news show that packaging may be changed to smaller, less, etc. because of costs to produce and ship.

What's worse is the ties that hold items in place in packages. Every try to get a toy out of the ties holding it in place in the package? Before I give a toy I clip the ties first. I've seen many a child not be able to take the toy and play with it because it took an adult forever to get the stupid ties off if they could find scissors, or use a knife which is an accident ready to happen. A good seam ripper works great to break the ties.

I've done that or used the edge of my scissors. Also great envelope openers.

Thanks for sharing.
