Ofcourse fabric you silly quilters. They have 100 percent cotton fabric, solids that are nicely woven and soft for a $1.50 a yard. Just got it in this morning. I thought I would share cause I know there are some like me who got to buy fabric as cheap as possible.

Luckynumber7 06-03-2010 09:31 AM

Wow, that sounds like a good deal. Thanks for sharing.

craftybear 06-03-2010 10:01 AM

awesome, our Walmart doesn't have fabric any longer in Indiana

marsye 06-03-2010 10:02 AM

Walmart does have some good fabric

kclausing 06-03-2010 10:05 AM

Hate to admit, but I get most of my fabric at walmart. Thankfully, ours is not planning on getting rid of fabric anytime soon. And the quilting fabrics are not supposed to be hit with the price hike. Just the more premium / specialty fabrics.

jljack 06-03-2010 10:16 AM

You really have to watch what you get, but you can really get some great bargains on good fabric at WalMart. I've been going there for years, and if you're really careful you can get good stuff.

JJs 06-03-2010 11:03 AM

I tell you what, the quilting fabric here went up - used to be $2 a yard for the "quilt of the month" fabric, then it went to $2.44 a yard and just this week went up to $2.97... so if your local wm didn't raise the "quilt" fabric count yourself lucky..

ghernandez 06-03-2010 11:05 AM

Our WM in South Bend, In still has fabric. They were going to get rid of it but changed their minds. I huess they sell alot of it.

cminor 06-03-2010 11:11 AM

Thanks for the info. I am all over the fabric of the month there - very nice for Walmart! At one time not so long ago it was all about price for me - now I am a little more selective.

Pam 06-03-2010 11:19 AM

Just like everywhere, quality varies. Nothing wrong with a good quality fabric, no matter where it was purchased.

nwm50 06-03-2010 11:23 AM

Oooo, gotta hit the store now! Hope it's @ my store...this is my kind of deals (affordable)! Thanks for sharing.

brookemarie19 06-03-2010 11:25 AM

I saw some at my walmart too... was it called "top quality fabric"? Thats the name of the one I saw at mine.

marsye 06-03-2010 11:32 AM

and off to Walmart I go!!!

stpatmom 06-03-2010 11:41 AM

Unfortuantely, (or fortunately), one of the wally worlds close to me is closing the fabric department. They had all of it marked 50% off this past weekend. I cleaned up! I bought over 50 yrds! I am choosey about my fabric but I found some great material for making market bags and my kids picked out material for pillowcases. I also bought material for kitchen accessories. These types of things don't have to last forever, and won't, so I didn't want to spend a lot on them. Although I have to say that some of what I got felt really nice!

sharon b 06-03-2010 11:50 AM

So what did you buy ? We want to see  LOL

cwessel47 06-03-2010 11:56 AM

I got some too! here in Maine. The girls there told me our fabric department will be closing the next time they do a re-fit (6 months or so.) I don't get a lot there - but at $1.50 a yard - there is always room for more.

raptureready 06-03-2010 01:06 PM

If you buy Walmart fabric that's been marked down it's usually a good buy. The stuff that they get in and is originally priced at 1 or 1.50 is usually poly blends and isn't very good quality.

CarrieAnne 06-03-2010 01:11 PM

I always look atours, sometimes they have good sales and clearences, and you get it SO cheap!

SuziC 06-03-2010 01:32 PM

Thats a great price. I will be going to my local WM in the morning!!

debbieumphress 06-03-2010 01:37 PM

Our WM quit selling fabric for two years and now they have two rows of it but it is like fat qtrs, jelly rolls, etc. prepackaged fabric. ANd notions of course. Not the same. Although their jelly rolls have 80 strips as opposed to the normal 42 like Moda, Fat qtr bundles are more too. SO good prices. I miss buying their solids for a dollar a yard. they came in handy for borders for my charity quilts. NOw about half of their stock is on sale for 25% off. Must not be selling good or just a good sale. LOL

rexie 06-03-2010 01:51 PM

I see you are from Western ky. So am I, so which Wal-mart did you find your bargain in?

cjomomma 06-03-2010 01:56 PM

Oh that is cool you are from hardin. I'm in Murray, our WM still has fabrics.

rexie 06-03-2010 03:03 PM

I will have to check them out. Haven't had much luck with Wal-mart lately. Hope to find some fabric in the 400 mile yard sale.

trueimage 06-03-2010 03:12 PM

I wish our walmarts still had fabric. Zilch-nada. I hate that they cut the crafts dept.

When is the yard sale and when does it begin?

rexie 06-03-2010 03:34 PM

It started today...goes through Saturday and is 400 miles long all along highway 68. Today I went from Draffenville to Aurora. Didn't find too much that I couldn't live without.

cjomomma 06-03-2010 03:37 PM

Rexie it is nice to know that someone from the QB lives so close to me. Maybe we could meet some time, if you don't want to that's ok. Carrie

cjomomma 06-03-2010 03:39 PM

I didn't know it was that close. Thank you for the info.

rexie 06-03-2010 04:01 PM

That would be nice. Right now I am running to Paducah a lot to see my BFF that has small cell lung cancer. But will try to do that sometime.

Minda 06-03-2010 04:44 PM

If you hear that your local W-M is going to close its fabric department, call the corporate headquarters and request that they keep their fabric at that specific store. The clerks in the fabric department can tell you where to call and give you the store number.

When our W-M was going to remove the fabric department, we asked all of the members of the local guilds to call. We also asked parents of students at the local schools to call, since most of the students get their fabric at W-M for their sewing projects.

Due to the number of call they received, they decided to keep their fabric department. That was about 3 years ago.

I am so sorry to hear about your BFF. Don't worry about meeting me right now, you just tend to your friend. I do pray and hope that things improve. Carrie

Cat18 06-03-2010 07:42 PM

I miss Wm quilt of the month material too. I had trouble keeping up with it and still have about a year's worth of their pattern/fabric!

crkathleen 06-03-2010 08:31 PM

Do ya'll know if there is a list of stores that still carry fabric?

We did the same thing here. Had our ASG members contact headquarters. They kept fabric in two stores for another year. One closed it out three months ago and my WM clerk/friend told me they just got the notice my store would be closing out in December. @#$%^&**&^%#$ They have already downsized several departments and boy, does it show. Clerks said they have hired several top dogs from Target and are trying to tern it into a Target type store. I shopped Target twice. Neither time did they have the advertised item in the store. The old "we're sold out of that item" bait and switch. On the first day at 9 AM? I don't think so.
Never went back.

Zoe's mom 06-04-2010 05:14 AM

wash it at least two times before you sew it....IT WILL SHRINK

I don't know if there is a list. Have you tried their web site?

CarrieAnne 06-04-2010 05:37 AM

Somewhere HERE there is a thread where people posted if their Walmarts still had fabric...

TexasGurl 06-04-2010 05:40 AM

Hey, I live in Ohio County, KY. I know where Murray is. Where is Hardin, KY?

Did you know where both Wal-marts in Bowling Green still have fabric? :D

Lucille A 06-04-2010 06:29 AM

Better get it quickly. They are phasing out all fabric. It is too "labor intensive". I live near Houston, and there is only one WalMart left that has fabric, and they will be gone by the end of summer from what we hear.

The bright side is I have not shopped Walmart very much at all since they phased out the fabric. Saved me a lot of money.
