Terrific! Great idea and know you'll enjoy having the room to work. Please do post pictures as it will give the rest of us ideas.

SewExtremeSeams 06-15-2011 05:32 AM

Congratulations! Please post photos.

About a month ago when we picked up a Grace frame off of craigslist, DH and I decided the same thing for the same reasons. A good size room, not being used... so why not. Can't wait to see photos.

:-D

Ps 150 06-15-2011 05:37 AM

Well, I was going to repaint the room before I moved in but I must have pulled something in my back yesterday while moving the piano because I'm aching today. Both of my girls are going to help me move in today and then next month, when DH has vacation, he's going to help me repaint and put up some wainscoting (much easier to have with young, creative minds bumping about! So, it looks like I'll have pics up in the next day or two!

wolph33 06-15-2011 05:43 AM

that is great, show us pics when you get set up

vasallese 06-15-2011 05:47 AM

Good for you! Enjoy yourself. And include lots of shelves for your fabric and your books and tools.

nab 06-15-2011 05:55 AM

The new sewing room is great. But even greater is quilting with your daughters. I am envious of you. My daughter does not like to sew in anyway, shape or form. I bet you really get to know them, especially their likes and dislikes. Enjoy every minute.

Zhillslady 06-15-2011 06:16 AM

That is so exciting. I bought my first home in November 2010 and instead of a dining room I made it a quilitng room. It was a strange sized room like 14 x 29 so I like it much better for sewing. Send us some pictures when you get your new room all set up.

Congrats on your new seiwing room!

SandyinZ4 06-15-2011 06:49 AM

Really looking forward to seeing the pics. I am wondering how long it will be before the girls are down with you wanting to share your larger space? :-)

connie d 06-15-2011 07:04 AM

congratulations.:):):)

LindaKayCat 06-15-2011 07:47 AM

Good for you. We're just finishing up the cabinets to my "quilting studio". I will learn how to download pictures and send a few along! I can hardly wait :!:

Good for you. I have a small sewing room that I share with my four cats, I sometimes cut on my glass topped dining room table, I always pin the three layers and quilt on it. I have no place for a table in the kitchen.

caspharm 06-15-2011 08:23 AM

Congrats and Enjoy. That's what we did, too. We have a formal dining and living room combo that we will never use, so I moved out of one room (now to be DH's mancave) and into the bigger room.

Meme2six 06-15-2011 08:27 AM

That's wonderful! Then your two DDs will have a third more room for each of them in the current sewing room and they will love that as well. Congratulations, too, on making use of space that wasn't being used to its best potential!

Wow! He's a Keeper! Congratulations on your new room. I'll be waiting to see your arrangement! :P

lillybeck 06-15-2011 08:30 AM

Congrats

mariebaker 06-15-2011 08:40 AM

congrats! I agree that the dining room is a studio waiting to happen-
I also love the "not used in a year" rule-I could probably fit all of my clothes on one short rack by applying it-think I will. thanks for the ideas

Elisabethann 06-15-2011 08:45 AM

How nice that your DH is on board :) Can't wait to see pictures of you, your room and your girls :)

Ruth Ann Ridgeway 06-15-2011 08:45 AM

I am so glad for you. I have one in the corner of my husband's shop. It was either put my car in there or make a sewing room. I won. I love it and my family can actually find me now.

Deborahlees 06-15-2011 08:58 AM

We have all come a long way. Do you remember when we all started on the kitchen table and had to clean up and put everything away at the end of the day.....When it was extremely rare for anyone to have 'a sewing room'...i remember when my DH and I were looking at houses and one family had converted the entire attic to a super large sewing studio. My goodness I fell in love and so wanted to house just for its attic.....we have all come a long way baby...and our time is now to enjoy what gives us pleasure....Enjoy your new room...

grannypat7925 06-15-2011 09:23 AM

Sounds like it will work wonderfully! Enjoy!

Way to go. But just remember, stuff allways expands to meet the exsisting space :!:

Lorae Radunz 06-15-2011 10:35 AM

You can't have enough space. Have fun!

My time 06-15-2011 02:02 PM

Good for you. Man I can't imagine sharing the small space with 3 quilters because I'm such a messy quilter.

jgriinke 06-15-2011 02:03 PM

That is super news! Good for you.

Sarah CA 06-15-2011 02:25 PM

Great idea!!! I just recently converted my living room (which is the first room you walk into from the front door) into my sewing room.

jojosnana 06-15-2011 02:41 PM

Great idea. This rule does not apply to stashes.....

carolynjo 06-15-2011 02:51 PM

So happy for you! It will be so much fun when you can spread out a little bit more. Yes, like all the rest, send pics when finished.

ArizonaQuilts1 06-15-2011 02:55 PM

Brilliant thinking. We did something similar because we never used our formal dining room either. We had this formal dining/living room combo that was so haughty that we never used it. :) So we took our family room furniture, threw it into the living/dining area and now we use those 2 rooms as our great room. We love it because we went wild with oranges, reds, yellows to make it fun and inviting. Then we took our family room and turned it into the sewing studio. Lots of room in there. We don't even miss the formal dining area. Mary

maryp 06-15-2011 03:09 PM

u gonna luv it

Brandi 06-15-2011 03:47 PM

Post some pics when you get moved. I am happy for you.

sew wishful 06-15-2011 06:21 PM

I just had a thought and apologize if someone already gave this hint....I've only read page one.
With three quilters, why not put your tables in the center of the room so you all face each other? What fun to watch each other twist their tongues, wrinkle their brow, etc when having difficulty with a project. Sure beats facing a wall! Just a thought.
Glad you found a new, BIG room to enjoy with your daughters!
