Well listen to this!!!! - I have just had a fantastic suggestion put to me by our fellow quilter extroadinaire - Cathy m. Cathy had read through my message on Henrys thread about Joann's purchases in the picture link, in which I asked if you all knew how lucky you were to have such a selection of fabric shops on your doorstep and to be able to buy as much fabric as you need, and I explained the sheer difficulty we have here in Spain in getting fabric and how during last weeks lesson at my quilting group we had all been in a frenzy trying to grab what we could from a couple of carrier bags of scraps one of the group had kindly donated.......

SO...... Cathy has suggested that if any of you have ANY scraps of fabric, unfinished, unloved, unwanted projects .... ANYTHING that you can bear to part with we would be absolutely over the moon to received them here in Spain, we have a lot of talented ladies and we could do so much more for our local charities too!!

Cathy says this would be a great way to relieve the guilt that all quilters feel when they have 'excess' hoards of fabric and unfinished/unloved projects that are cluttering up your sewing rooms so that by donating these to a severely 'fabric deprived' and frustrated quilting group' you will no longer suffer from the terrible guilt of having too much in your 'stash'!!! :D :D

So how do all feel about Cathy's suggestion?????

My address is:-

Casa la Joya,
Apartado de correo 609,
29740 Torre del Mar,
Malaga,
SPAIN.

Any donations will be greatfully received, and we will be eternally grateful for your generosity. :) :) :)

What is the weight limit of boxes sent to Spain?

vicki reno 04-10-2008 11:52 AM

Let me check postage rates to you and then I will see what I can come up with. I had a lot of fabric given to me years ago when I headed up a group at church and none of the other ladies wanted it.

Izy 04-10-2008 11:54 AM

I appreciate that postage may be an issue, but by whatever means is the cheapest....we can wait.... you are all sooo kind, Cathy I have just read the thread about you and Henry sending a gift to Barb, you are angels.... :) :) :) :)

vicki reno 04-10-2008 12:28 PM

I'll pm you next week and let you know what I sent . It will probably go out next Wed. I have commitments this weekend and generally get off early on Wednesdays.

Izy 04-10-2008 12:31 PM

Vicki you are a star!! - Thank you soooooo muuuuuuch, I can't wait.... I will let you know as soon as it arrives.

Muchas gracias mi amiga!!

Cathy M 04-10-2008 01:30 PM

Izy- you might want to warn your loved ones that your livingroom might be buried in fabric soon :):)

Izy 04-10-2008 01:32 PM

yippee!! - I got lots of space to stash - under beds, in the wardrobes, clear out the kitchen cupboards....dont care where - I used to be houseproud........then I got into quilting..lol!!!!!

Barbm 04-10-2008 02:48 PM

I send flat rate boxes through the post office for $10.00. I'll check if we can send them to Spain. I've sent to Japan with no problem.

Ok, I'm in!
I do have tons of pieces that I can part with. Heck, I might even have some fabric that I REALLY don't like. In fact, I do! I did a Shop Hop in Hawaii in 2006 and won 9th place! WOOHOO!! Was a great prize.
There was a TON of fabric in a basket that I won. It was OVER 20 yards...YUP, 20 yards! In it was this funky Asian fabric that I had no clue what I could use it for. I'll include some of that in there.
I also have some blocks that I did, just for fun, that I don't know what I'm going to do with, and put them in there.
OH MY!! I'm thinking I need to use a crate! hehe

As to the One Rate Boxes....they can go to APO/FPO addresses to other countries, but not to a personal mail address there. But,,,,I did see/read/hear somewhere that there are intenational ones??

henryparrish76 04-10-2008 03:16 PM

there are international one rate boxes. get those :)

beachlady 04-10-2008 03:21 PM

Izy, just making a new sewing room and I am sure I will find some fabric for you. Do you have any sort of zip code in Spain? Or is it part of another part of your address?

tlrnhi 04-10-2008 03:22 PM

I thought they had them. I'll have to check the post office or order some online.

henryparrish76 04-10-2008 04:09 PM

Barb M 04-10-2008 06:54 PM

DonnaRae 04-10-2008 07:45 PM

Okay I am in too. I know I can come up with some fabric. Sooooo, if someone will post here how to ship it would be a great help! Vicki did you send yours yet? Anyone?

Also I was thinking maybe this should be listed again in the ads forum.

QuiltingTurtle 04-10-2008 08:18 PM

I will see what I can come up with over the weekend. :)

tlrnhi 04-10-2008 09:12 PM

I"m going to order some of the boxes online, but will also check the post office since I have to run out there tomorrow.
Was supposed to go today, but my van decided it needed to go BACK to the shop. UGH!

krabadan 04-11-2008 12:28 AM

I'm in too.

Tammywr 04-11-2008 12:36 AM

Hello, I make quilt kits for my ebay store at www.quiltcutters.com
I will start saving my scrap and odd and end pieces and send them when the box is full. I just cannot throw away scraps, glad to know they will be of good use.

Izy 04-11-2008 12:45 AM

You have no idea how much this means to me xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

vicki reno 04-11-2008 02:59 AM

I did a check on the USPS web site and 1 lb (which is a pretty good haul in fabric) is a little over $10.00. I think that I can swing that--won't break the bank.

Calico92402 04-11-2008 04:49 AM

I'm going to go through my "fabric library" and see what I can part with, then it's on the way to ya!

Billie G 04-11-2008 05:10 AM

Are you wanting just cotton or cotton blends? I have some knit jerseys that make fantastic robes/tops/nite gowns. A friends mother passed away over a year ago & I & a friend recievied a LOT of her material! I haven't used this type of material in a long time as both of us are using mostly cotton & or blends. I know dh would be really glad to see some of it go, so he could have part of his garage back. LOL

What part of USPS did you look at Vicki? I looked and it was $128 for 10 pounds. Not a good deal for smaller packages either. I think it was $38 for under 1/2 a pound. But that was a Global Express Guaranteed rate. I didn't find any other international rate charts there.

Chele 04-11-2008 05:41 AM

The USPS has flat rate envelopes and boxes for international shipping. They're free and the boxes are pretty large. To Spain, a box would be $37.00; an envelope $11.00. Less expensive if you do it online.

Some shops can fit up to eight yards in an envelope and 25 yards in a box.

vicki reno 04-11-2008 05:43 AM

I used the rates for envelopes. It was the same for them as well as a box. It can go "slow boat to China) rate for a little over $10.00. Its first class international and was $10.40. The estimated time of delivery varies but usually is 2-3 weeks. That why I referred to it as "slow boat to China."

Denise 04-11-2008 09:08 AM

i'll look in my stash, my DH shops for fabric for me when he thinks i need more colors. Some of his choices sorry to say i have no clue what to make with. So maybe you can make something with them. I'll also check with my postoffice to see how much this will be. I cant wait to see what you get in the mail.

Barb M 04-11-2008 09:35 AM

Is anyone here mailing from Canada? I dont think we do flat rate boxes here do we?

Izy 04-11-2008 11:21 AM

I am totally overawed at your willingness to share and your openhearted gestures, your responses have genuinely moved me. On behalf of all our group I send sincere gratitude, thanks to you all :D

Izy 04-11-2008 12:13 PM

Hey Beachlady, just read through your message again, my address is just as I typed it except it should read Apartado de Correos 609 the zip code is the 29740 next to Torre del mar.

Thanks so much for your contribution, I really appreciate everyones efforts.

Keep in touch, Izy

Denise 04-11-2008 01:31 PM

I'm mailing from Canada, i just came from post office. As long as my pkg isn't over 2 kg it should cost me approximately $20.00. She never mentioned to me about any special box of pkging. The lady at post office gave me these bubble envelopes that she recieves the stamps in. She said these might work great for less weight (great recycling). So tonight i shall go through my stash and by monday morning it will be on its way to Spain.... i'm so excited. I've never done anything like this before, Izy hope you like what i send. Happy sewing everyone :D

Izy 04-11-2008 01:33 PM

Unbelievable!! Wowwwwwwww - you are soooooo great, can't thank you enough!!

Muchas gracias mi amiga de Canada!!

I will let you know as soon as I receive it!!

Thanks again,

Izy x

Denise 04-11-2008 01:36 PM
