Has anyone ever used this cushion or know of anyone who has ? It is a small air filled cushion with little nubs that you sit on that is suppose to help with back pain. I saw it advertised but none of my local stores carry it including the medical supply store. I don't have money to waste if it does not work ($28 inc. shipping) but if it does it would be worth the money to relieve my back pain. Any thoughts?
P.S. I tried to post a picture but it would not copy and paste. |
I have seen them at Craft Warehouse...
What is Craft Warehouse? Is this a store in your state or an online store. I live in Michigan and have not heard of it.
Thanks |
I have one and I love it! I purchased it just before a weekend quilting "bootcamp". I took a class that ran Friday 6-12, Saturday 10-10 and Sunday 10-4. I have problems with my sciatic (sp?) nerve and figured I'd be in bad shape by Sunday afternoon. I came through it just fine! It really helped with this kind of pain as it allows for movement without compression. If you move to one side or the other the air in the cushion adjusts so you're not pressing harder on the side you're leaning towards. (I don't know if that makes sense or not.) I let my girlfriend try it one day when she was down quilting with me and she ended up buying herself one for use at work. I'd recommend it.

I believe I saw one of these advertised at Nancy's Notions. I wasn't sure how well it would work so glad to read a good review.
I have one I need to get out and use!!
I bought at the MN Quilt Expo in 2009. I broke my tailbone and could only sit on one cheek! I still use it every day. It has really helped me!
Probably no Craft Warehouses in Michigan, they're only in the Pacific NW. I think I've seen them at Walmart and Target, with the excercise equipment. It's advertised as a core strengthener, because you're supposed to sit on it and wobble back and forth, which works your side muscles.
There is a one hop shop comming up in Michigan go to it I was at the one in Kokomo,IN and they had them for sale there.
My friend has one and she drives with hers too. I need to get one for myself for car and sewing room. I am going to look for it now...better yet, I"ll ask her.:)
I just ordered one a couple days ago from I HAVE A NOTION.com. It should be here Monday.
They can be very helpful for some and not so much for others... I think it depends on what causes your back problems :D:D:D
My nephew uses one but it is for his attention deficit. It seems to keep him more focused when he has to do homework. Sorry, don't know where to get them though.
A gal at work uses one of the large exercise balls instead of a chair. She says it helps her back, her posture and her core balance. |
I was just looking at one of these in the current Clotilde catalog. Thinking of getting one for my sewing chair.

I got one at a reasonable price at a yard sale and while I don't always use it I do like it, OTOH I think I paid about $10 for it so I figured I didn't have much to lose ;-) .
It's 2 sided and if the nubs bother you you can flip it over which I have also done. |
I ordered it through I Have A Notion. I was thinking of the ball but there is so much stuff in my computer/sewing room now it would not fit anywhere.
Thanks to all who have replied, it really helped me make up my mind when I read that others have used it successfully. |
If you do a search here you will find lots of discussions about this cushion. Some have bought a similar one from sporting goods stores for a much better price. It is mentioned in this thread:

I bought one a few years ago at one of our local quilt shows. I love mine. It helps with my posture when I'm sewing. I actually miss it when I'm not using it.
One of my friends has one, she says they are quite comfortable.
Those looked like a good idea to me too, and I got two. Would you believe I get motion sick when I sit on one? Tried several time, and got nauseated each time.... gave them away.
I never heard of such a thing - had to go to one of the websites listed so I could see what it was. It looks like it would be uncomfortable, but I suppose if I had back pain, I'd try just about anything. Good luck on relieving yours.

Yes these cushions are used for ADD and kids with sensory needs. It help ADD kids move 'in' their chairs rather than 'out' of their chairs and helps others organize their sensory needs. OT's love them. I am not sure about helping with the back. |

I have one and love it. It helps you sit up straighter/core strength. I live in MN and bought it at a local quilt shop.
Investagoogle a term called 'move'n'sit, sounds like the same cushion sold as a therapy tool. I think they come in small, mediium, and large.
I had one of those cushions once. Bought it at a quilt show. Couldn't get rid of it soon enough. Personally, they were more trouble keeping them in place than they were worth, plus they did not help the back any at all. Just my opion.
Sounds like it may be something that will help you!
I purchased mine at a LQS about a year ago and I love it. In fact, my DH also likes it I think as I frequently find it on his computer chair in the foyer.
I Googled Craft Warehouse Locations and they are only in Idaho, Washington & Oregon.
Nancys notions has it online for 22 dollars
I bought mine in the SPORTING GOODS dept at Target! I think it was in the exercise equip section.

Hi Judy: I have purchased three Gypsy Sit Upon. I gave one as a gift to my quilting teacher and she loves it. I use my in the car and when I am quilting, I also sold one to a friend who quilts. It is great in the car, my back doesn't hurt and it helps me sit up straighter. It was recommended to me by a quilter who did a show in San Francisco and sat on it for more than eight hours and wasn't aching at all. You can get it in your local quilt shop for $29.95 plus tax or go on Amazon and get it for the same price no cost for shipping.
I purchased it this spring. I know you will enjoy it, but it will take getting use to. It make your core help you sit up straight. Tomo |
Our LQS has them but don't know if anyone has bought one to use.
J/Fit is the exact same cushion and it sellsl for $18.75 on Amazon.com. Have one, love it. Use at sewing machine and in the car for long trips.
D in TX |
Sounds great, I need one too so will order one asap.
Thanks for sharing, Kutnso |
Does anyone think this could be carried on an airplane to make a very long trip more tolerable?
have you tried a kinesiologist or a chiropractor???
if i had back pain, i certainly wouldn't be buying a PILLOW!! no offense intended! just my humble opinion! |
