Gypsy Wife Quilt

Anyone here on the "Board" make this quilt??? The last time I asked the post was pulled because I posted a photo of it...

Kitsie 05-12-2016 10:15 AM

Haven't made it but after seeing it by googling, it really has caught my interest!!

redstilettos 05-12-2016 11:09 AM

I'm a little confused trying to figure out which quilt exactly you're talking about. When I click the link it takes me to Ebay and when I google Gypsy Quilt there are an abundance of different ones....??

Honchey 05-12-2016 11:14 AM

I just love this quilt..I am waiting for the pattern and in the meantime I am cutting strips...there's a blog on pinterest for it that gives you lots of info for it. it can be done very scrappy or with a single line of fabric...

Jane Quilter 05-12-2016 11:22 AM

the fat quarter store is selling the pattern/booklet

http://www.fatquartershop.com/gypsy-...attern-booklet

ManiacQuilter2 05-12-2016 11:37 AM

Yes, we are only suppose to post photos belonging to us so could you copy & paste the link where the quilt's photo will appear such as if the pattern is for sale on eBay for example??

redstilettos, that hyperlink is not the original poster's. It is a link inserted on key words in the post by Viglink (if you hover over the highlighted word with your mouse you will see the Viglink note). To find the OP's quilt, you need to Google "gypsy wife quilt" and then click on "images", or click on the pattern link provided by Jane to the fatquartershop pattern.

Wow! I love that quilt! another for the bucket list. I've been saving up stripped fabric, and some would be perfect for this.

Nammie to 7 05-12-2016 01:07 PM

I have the pattern and have collected the fabric. I've just got to put the binding on my last quilt for our quilt show and I might be able to put this one on my active project list! Just saw a finished one this morning. They are so cool!

Mariposa 05-12-2016 01:19 PM

I'd like to do this quilt, looks like fun! :)

Jcarpentier 05-12-2016 01:21 PM

Never made it but it looks intriguing.

Doggramma 05-12-2016 01:33 PM

I have several versions pinned. I'm leaning toward the neutral one, but it'll be a while before I'll get it going.

ILoveToQuilt 05-12-2016 01:34 PM

Another fabulous quilt to add to my "bucket list".

cashs_mom 05-12-2016 05:53 PM

I love this quilt! I'm going to have to look for the booklet.

quilting cat 05-12-2016 06:53 PM

Too busy for me.

Honchey 05-12-2016 09:40 PM

I started cutting strips of colors that I like and have made 2 of the blocks...That follow along tutorial on Pinterest is very helpful..

rainbowcat 05-12-2016 10:37 PM

Haven't made it yet, but it looks amazing. Love the colours.

lindaschipper 05-13-2016 03:10 AM

I checked it out on Google....just too "BUSY" of a quilt for my taste. Good luck with it ladies!

Kris P 05-13-2016 03:36 AM

I'm about half way through making Gypsy Wife. I am following a Quilt along with a rather large group of women from a Women's Sewing Retreat/bible camp that I attended spring. The coordinators of the QAL divided the large blocks and filler blocks up so we make one large block and sometimes MANY filler blocks in each month. I'm in mont 7 now, so I'm still caught up. Soon I start putting together the sections. I'm not sure how I'll feel about it when I'm done, I expect that it will be a hot mess, but worth the experience.

LindaJ 05-13-2016 04:16 AM

Wow, love the one on the fat quarter page! Putting it on my list.

jmoore 05-13-2016 05:33 AM

I have mine about half way finished...it is an extremely addictive project, it's like a jigsaw puzzle. Unfortunately, the instructions are poorly written (IMHO) so our LQS held a three week long class to get a few of us started. I am doing mine all scrappy but others chose fabric collections. I would post a picture but am in sunny California for a couple of weeks. I have a few photos on my iPhone but don't know how to post from there.

If you have the patience, it is a fun project and I work on mine simultaneously with another project in case I get frustrated... And you have to keep your pieces/sections organized. Good luck.

Geri B 05-13-2016 06:53 AM

This is a new pattern to me...thanks for introducing it here. Curiosity drove me to see what it looked like...wow, busy is not the word for it, but that seems to be becoming a trend..look at millefiori, OBW, etc. anyway, hesitated on the price $24, so went to Pinterest to see others and comments......found there seem to be a few errata postings. Some of the renditions of the pattern idea are cool though. But it does seem very intense, and I hesitate if there are errors in instructions - for now. But it does look like an terrific way to use up fabric bits.......as the original really doesn't have any rhyme nod reason to it, how big are those blocks...some look extremely small with lots of pieces.....jmho

I think from now on, I'll use jquit instead of quilt. Seems the internet/scammers will invade anything!! Yes, I call them scammers because this is NOT something I asked for.

Now strangely, it didn't work when I typed "that word", because I misspelled it first and had to correct??

Anoka Quilter 05-13-2016 01:32 PM

On my list to do. Like others I have been gathering fabrics. Am going to do mine in basically black/white/grays with the blocks having bright colors used in them. I may even alternate some bright strips in the body of the quilt; not sure yet. My goal is to have the blocks done before December and when I am at a retreat I am going to the first weekend in December I am hoping to piece it all together there.

ibex94 05-13-2016 01:39 PM

now I know what to do with all my randomly made blocks!!! Thanks for this discussion!

quiltingshorttimer 05-13-2016 01:41 PM

I love the Gypsy Wife Quilt designed by Jenn Kingwell! I've sent (and pinned) it on Pinterest in several color combos--amazing how that changes the design look. I definitely want to make one.

hildie 05-13-2016 07:08 PM

Thanks for letting us know about the quilt.

lynndianne 05-14-2016 04:46 AM

I would like to make it and have been collecting pictures, block sizes, etc. I may try to make a few blocks and see how it goes.

lynnie 05-14-2016 07:29 AM

I had to google it, i love it. i love how there's a block and then there is stripes going down after it. really cool.
it would be a great thing to do with orphan blocks.

grammyjladr 05-14-2016 08:14 AM

Wow that is amazing! I'd have to do that for exactly the right personality. I think I'll go find a need friend that matches the quilt. Any excuse, right?

For me it is too random but I was also thinking it would be a nice way to use up orphan blocks and make a utility quilt. I do not think I would buy a pattern but the pattern does inspire me to use up odds and ends and make my own pattern.

I just made my first 2 blocks for the Gypsy Wife quilt...

Geri B 05-15-2016 05:27 AM

Yes, I see random, sample blocks along with jelly rolls....the actual pattern must be a nightmare to follow!

Colorful1 05-15-2016 07:03 AM

FYI: Here is author Jen Kingwell's errata page for this pattern:
http://jenkingwelldesigns.blogspot.c...reprinted.html

Kitsie 05-17-2016 01:55 PM

Geri B, the strips are all 1.5" wide except a couple that are 1". I thought of jelly rolls too, but that would be such a waste.

I'm going to be PP'ing my blocks for Gypsy Wife and would like to know if anyone has found a source for paper template drawings? Otherwise it means a lot of time with graph paper, rulers, etc!!

Honchey 05-18-2016 06:08 AM

I also am pping the patterns and use foundation factory for the small ones and EQ7 for some of the others..I wouldn't think some of the blocks are too hard to do. There's a quiltalong with a tute on Pinterest that has 2 blogs that give a lot of the directions..and the small blocks are repeated.

cashs_mom 05-18-2016 09:17 AM

Okay, I'm hooked. I ordered the book last night so I can see if I can actually do this one.

LOL You and me! I was thinking the same.

lynnie 05-19-2016 12:09 PM

honchy, love your bright colors for this quilt.
