I do both but enjoy the hand quilting and applique the most. I have gotten the spoon quilting thing lately and want to try it on the next project. My avatar is all hand quilted and it took me almost 3 years.

Always hand-quilt-that's how I learned. I love the look of a hand-quilted quilt and find nothing more relaxing! I am currently hand-quilting a queen size bear paws quit, and piecing a twin quilt to hand quilt for my uncle. I have two more queen size already pieced and appliqued waiting in the wings, but I think I will either sell them as is or if I find the money, send them to be long-armed. I am trying to learn machine quilting, but only for small quilts I want to finish quickly

Hi, how do you know what color of thread to use for hand quilting? I just made a (first) quilt and have it all basted and ready to quilt. The colors are burgundy, beige and dark green. What do you think? :?: :?: :?:

i use mostly white some off white

I usually make the thread match the backing. Some people match it to the top. I usually use natural unless the backing is white. I can hardly take my quilting with me as I have a large frame. I don't like a hoop or quilting without one as I can't control the quilt that way. If it is in a large floor frame, I have both hands to quilt with. It is so much easier that way. I do have my frame where I can watch or listen to tv as I quilt.

I still do a lot of hand quilting only because I'm not good at machine quilting.
